1. Thomas Edison was American. He was an inventor. He invented a lot of
things.
2. Isaac Newton was a French scientist. He was good at studying insects.
He wrote the Records About Insects.
3. Helen Keller was born in America. She was a writer. When she was very
young, she became blind and deaf.
4. Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish writer. He is famous for writing
stories. One of his famous stories is the Ugly Duckling.
5. Xu Beihong was Chinese. He was an artist. He was good at painting
shrimps and crabs.

Vivi: Hi, Frank. What are you doing there?
Frank: Hi, Vivi. I’m making winter vacation plans. I’m going to
Sanya with my parents. I want to swim in the sea, but I
can’t swim now. I’m going to learn to swim before
travelling. Are you going to travel during this vacation?
Vivi: No. You know my parents are very busy. I’m going to stay at
home. But I have some interesting things to do.
Frank: Really? What are you going to do?
Vivi: I’m going to play badminton with my friends every day. I’m
also going to do some volunteer work and read a book about
Marco Polo.
Frank: Why do you want to read about him?
Vivi: Marco Polo was the first westerner to write about China. He
travelled to many places around China. He talked with Kublai
Khan, the leader of China. When he came home to Italy, he
told many stories about China. People are still reading
these stories today!
Frank: Wow, that’s amazing! Haha, I’m excited! A wonderful winter
vacation is waiting for us!
Vivi: Do you have plans for this weekend?
Frank: This weekend?
Vivi: Er…Don’t you remember we are going to have a math test
next Monday?
