New words: square n. 平方 meter n. 米 deep adj. 深的 desert n. 沙漠 population n. 人口 population n. 人口 Asia n. 亚洲 tour v. n. 旅行 tourist n. 旅行者 wall n. 墙 amazing adj. 令人大为惊奇的 ancient adj. 古代的 wide adj. 宽的;宽阔和 2. Show some pictures and information of the highest mountain, the longest river, the biggest river, the biggest lake and the biggest desert in the world. Step 2 Warming up 1. Watch the photos and talk about them “How big/high/long/big is …?’ and help the students to answer: It’s …meters/kilometers/cm big/high/long/big. 2. Look these photos and practice the dialogue: e.g. A: How high is Qomolangma? B: It’s 8,844.43 meters high. Step 9 Language points and summary 1. China has the biggest population in the world. 中国是世界人口最多的国家。population意为“人口”时,是一个集合名词。它在句中作主语时,谓语动词通常用单数形 式。其常用句型为“The population of +某地+ is + 数词”或“某地+ has a population of + 数 词”,表示“某地有多少人口”。如: The population of my city is three million. ◆ 当表示人口“多”或“少”时,常用形容词large,big或small修饰population。如: The town has a large / big / small population. ◆ 当对人口数量进行提问时,要用疑问词what 或 how large。如: What / How large is the population of your country? 【运用】完成句子,每空一词。 (1) 这个国家人口少。 The country ___ _ _____ _________. Feel free to ask me anything on today’s Great Wall tour. 在今天的长城游中,大家尽管问我任何问题,不要拘束。 feel free是英语口语中一个常用表达。若有人让你 feel free to do something, 就是让你无 需拘束,只管按照自己的意愿去做某事。 e.g. A: Can I use your bathroom? 我可以用一下你的卫生间吗? B: Yes, feel free. 可以,请随意。 3. As far as I know, there are no other man-made objects as big as this. 据我所知,再没有像它这样大的人造物体了。 1) as far as I know是一个固定的表达方式,还可以说so far as I know, 意思是“据我所知”。 e.g. As far as I know, Jack’s got twin sisters. 就我所知,杰克有一对孪生姐妹。 They’re not coming today, so far as I know. 他们今天不来了– 就我所知是这样的。 2) 句中man-made是一个合 成形容词,意为“人造的”。像这样与-made复合而成的形容词不止一个。用以描述产品 的生产或制造手段,特点等,常见的有: handmade—手工制作的 homemade—家庭制作的 machine-made—机制的 tailor-made—量体定制的;特制的;定做的 甚至还有像self-made (自学而成的;自我奋斗而成的;天然形成的)可以用来描述人。 Step 10 Exercises 课堂作业 1.
