(2021·浙江高三)As California gray whales wind their way south along North America’s Pacific coast,
researchers are watching, worried about another year of unexplained die-offs.
Last spring and summer, 215 whales inexplicably(说不清地)washed up along North America’s West Coast.
Concerned, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration called for an investigation, bringing
together researchers from the Arctic to Mexico to explore the strandings(搁浅)in a uniform manner.
According to the scientists involved with the investigation, it’s still unclear what caused the 2019 die﹣off and
whether the whales will fare better this year.
California gray whales migrate 5, 000 miles every year from the Arctic to Mexico’s Baja. Their journey is the
longest migration, and full of dangers such as ships and plastic rubbish. The journey back north is particularly
dangerous because gray whales only eat while in the Arctic; therefore, they are running on empty as they make their
return trip from Baja.
Data and observations collected this past summer by researchers based at NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science
Center have raised more questions than answers. For instance, 15 gray whales were spotted in one day in the
eastern Beaufort Sea-a rare sighting for a species usually seen getting fat at their feeding grounds. But with the sea
ice forming later in winter and breaking up earlier in summer, scientists wonder whether gray whales will continue
to move farther east to new feeding areas.
In addition to changes in food availability, as sea ice decreases, whales are running into more and more ship
traffic in these remote waters. Ship strikes and being trapped in fishing gear are common causes of whale injury and
death.Maggie Mooney-Seus, spokeswoman for the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, said, “We are working to
determine future whale research plans that may help shed light on this and other relevant questions.”
21.The reason for the die-offs of the California gray whales is________.
A. lack of food. B. too much plastic rubbish.
C. heavy ship traffic. D. still under investigation.
22.Why were 15 gray whales seen in the eastern Beaufort Sea?
A. They probably were looking for a new migrating path.
B. They probably were avoiding the noises of fishing gears.
C. They probably were exploring their new feeding grounds.
D. They probably were escaping from being hunted by the ships.
23.What do the underlined words “shed light on” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. Clarify. B. Solve. C. Improve. D. Research.

(2021·江苏省南通中学高三)We moved into a beautiful two-story old house. The house was built in 1956. It
was repaired in 2003.
At first, really small things began to happen. They didn’t make me believe that something was wrong, but as
time went on, things started becoming stranger and stranger. Early something was missing, and later on it would be
found somewhere else. I just thought I had forgotten where I put it, or perhaps my daughter was playing around
with things. Then later on I would hear strange sounds when nobody was at home but me. Yet it was an old house,
and sometimes old houses did make little noises, so again, I didn’t really mind.
Then things that I couldn’t explain started happening. It was last November and I was at home alone cleaning
the house. When I was sweeping the kitchen floor, I felt a very cold wind blowing my hair. I thought the kitchen
window must have been opened, but when I checked it, it was closed. The windows were new, and there was no
way any cold air came in.
We all felt very strange and moved away from there in October, 2014. I was never really frightened. It was just
strange, like something or someone was trying to get my attention or something.
24.The house is ________ years old.
A. about 97 B. over 100 C. over 200 D. about 64
25. According to the passage, the things that were missing in the old house ________.

C. would be seen in another place D. were put somewhere else by the writer26.At first the writer didn’t mind the strange sounds happened because ________.
A. the house was very old B. someone made them
C. her daughter made them D. the cold wind was blowing
27.The writer’s attitude to the old house is ________.

(2021·东北育才学校高三月考)I grew up as a country girl. My sister and I didn’t play video games. We didn’t
have cable TV. Summers were filled with swimming in the pond and picking wild blackberries for Grandma to
make a pie. Autumn was filled with corn mazes and crunching through leaves in the woods. And winter was all
about building igloos near the frozen lake.
My high school had zero diversity. Most people here could visit their entire extended family within 30 miles’
drive. And many were perfectly happy with the prospect of staying in rural northeast Ohio forever.
It was in high school that I began to realize that I wanted something beyond what I knew inside my Midwest
bubble. I loved reading and learning about new places, so I spent the rest of my high school career saving up so that
I could go on a Lord of the Rings–themed tour of New Zealand when I graduated.
After that initial trip to New Zealand, I was fully infected with the travel bug. I joined my college marching
band simply because it would mean international performance tours every two years. And I began to realize that I
couldn’t imagine my life without travel in it.
I got a great education from both my little rural high school and my little rural Ohio college. But, the more I
traveled, the more acutely aware I became of the fact that traveling made up for my education in a way that
textbooks and PowerPoint presentations in lecture halls just simply could not.
So, is travel the best education? Well, I don’t know if it deserves the superlative of the “best”. But travel is
definitely really valuable and a necessary part of becoming a global citizen of the world.
28.Which word best describes the author’s childhood?
A. Lonely. B. Carefree. C. Difficult. D. Bittersweet.
29.What can be inferred about the author as a high school student?
A. She liked to judge others. B. She was in favor of a rural life.
C. Her idea of traveling took roots. D. She was never concerned about money.
30.Why is traveling important to the author?
A. She could apply the knowledge from the textbooks.
B. She could go on international performance tours.C. She could receive scholarship where she traveled.
D. She could learn beyond the school and textbooks.
31.What message is mainly conveyed in the text?
A. East and west, home is the best. B. He who doesn’t advance loses ground.
C. Life without travel can only call it survival. D. A person to travel, perhaps lonely, may be free.

(2021·河南高三)Sacagawea was not afraid. Although she was only 16 years old and the only female in an
exploration group of more than 45 people, she was ready to courageously make her mark in American history.
In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson bought more than 825,000 square miles of land from France. To explore
this new part of the country, Jefferson sent Lewis and William Clark on a two-year journey to report on what they
found. They needed local guides to help them through this unknown territory.
Born to a Shoshone chief around 1788, Sacagawea had been kidnapped(绑架)by an enemy tribe when she was
about 12, then sold to a French-Canadian trapper. When the trapper was hired as a guide for Lewis and Clark’s
expedition in 1804, Sacagawea also joined as an interpreter to talk to Native-American people on their 8, 000-mile
journey.
Sacagawea soon became a respected member of the group. She was skilled at finding plants for food and
medicine to help keep the explorers alive. When a boat capsized(翻)on the Missouri River as they were crossing
into what is now Montana, Sacagawea saved important books and much-needed supplies. When they needed horses
to cross rough area, she convinced a Shoshone tribe—led by her long-lost brother—to give them some. She was so
esteemed by Lewis and Clark that when they reached the Pacific Ocean in November 1805, Sacagawea was asked
to cast her vote for where they should build a fort(营地).
Sacagawea proved herself again after the group took a different route home through what is now Idaho. As
they passed through her homeland, Sacagawea remembered Shoshone trails from her childhood and helped the
expedition find their way through. Clark even praised her as his “pilot”.
She received no pay for her services and died on December 20, 1812. But Sacagawea’s bravery and skill live
on in the expedition’s journals, which are full of praise for the 16-year-old Shoshone girl who guided the most
famous American expedition of all time.
32.Why did the explorers hire Sacagawea?
A. To do trade. B. To fight the enemy. C. To be safer. D. To help communicate.
33.What does the underlined word “esteemed” in Paragraph 4 mean?A. Respected. B. Suspected. C. Influenced. D. Promoted.
34.What do you think of Sacagawea’s role in the expedition?
A. Active. B. Irreplaceable. C. Tricky. D. Unreliable.
35.What is the passage mainly about?
A. A special honor. B. A great expedition. C. An outstanding girl. D. An unknown territory.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分 )
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。(2021·江苏连云港市·高三二模)My parents and I had just driven down the narrow mountain road from
Marrakesh with all its sharp bends, and had finally arrived at Merzouga. Before us stretched the unending sand
dunes(沙丘)that marked the beginning of the Sahara.
Our vehicle set off, quietly running over the sand and small stones. It wasn’t long before we were surrounded
by enormous sand dunes, towering above us on all sides. The wind was blowing grains of sand from the tops of the
dunes, the sun was beating down hard and bright, and the sky was a deep shade of blue that I had never seen before.
The wild beauty of the desert was about to reveal itself. There was not a plant to be seen. The desert appeared
completely empty, which was calming and threatening at the same time.
Eventually, as the last rays of sunlight were falling on the sand, we arrived at our desert camp. Stars were
already shining brightly in the darkening sky and it was getting cold with the approach of the night. I grabbed my
bag and headed towards the warm campfire. I was starving and rushed to put a steak on the barbecue. We enjoyed
two days in the camp with camel riding and campfire parties before we set off for Kenya.
A few days after our departure from the camp, we were very near to our rest camp in the Amboseli National
Park. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, rose up over the plains before us. Tall grasses and trees
dotted the plains, which were alive with the African wildlife. Giraffes, with their long necks, were pulling leaves
from the highest branches. In the distance, elephants were eating grass, ears flapping lazily as they moved slowly
over the plains.
The rest camp was in sight. Several huts made from brick settle across a large pool of water. The walls
reflected the afternoon sun. My father, against my mother’s advice, decided to drive through the pool of water that
stretched across the dirt road.
