B Shao Gang and Shao Qiang—twins born in 1990 in Shandong province—and their 30 male employees all wear uniforms to work. From cleaning oily cooker hoods and fixing cracks in windows, to dusting ceiling lights and even polishing the shell of your pet turtle, they do it all. The twins originally came to Hangzhou at the end of 2015 to work as e-commerce livestream hosts, but when they turned up to film, they felt uncomfortable. “It was as if there was nowhere to stand because the house was packed so full of products for the livestreams,” Shao Gang said. Before they opened Hangzhou Shenshi Housekeeping Service Company in May last year, the twins spent 10,000 yuan being trained to clean professionally by a household service company inZhengzhou, Henan province. Once their company was up and running, they advertised by posting videos on online platforms, which are popular with the younger generation. Business has been good and can bring in up to 300,000 yuan a month. As a result, the twins have opened new branches and now offer deep cleaning services in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou and a number of other cities, and have served thousands of customers. Even though many challenges remain in this corner of the service industry—including frequent quality complaints and labor conflicts—the twins have found that demand for their service is growing rapidly, especially among younger clients. “More than 80 percent of our customers are young people,” Shao Gang said, explaining that even many born in the 2000s who have only just started to work are willing to spend money on deep cleaning. “For the young, who are more concerned with their quality of life, renting a house is not just about finding a place to sleep but about making a home where they can rest and relax, and so they are willing to pay for our services.” 24.What did the twins do to be a male housekeeper? A.They paid to get professional training. B.They learned from many women cleaners. C.They watched a lot of videos on platforms. D.They ran a successful home service company. 25.What's the twins' attitude to the future of male housekeeping? A.Indifferent. B.Positive. C.Uncertain. D.Worried. 26.Why are the young willing to pay for deep cleaning? A.They focus on a quality life. B.They dislike doing housework. C.They consider it a great fashion. D.They have little time to deal with it. 27.What can we learn from the text? A.It is never too late to learn. B.Where there's life, there's hope. C.Home's the only castle that needs care. D.One may distinguish himself in any trade. CDo you want to know how to increase bone density (密度) and why it's important? We need strong bones to support us and allow us to move. They protect the brain, heart and other major organs from injury. We reach our “peak” bone mass in our late 20s, and we start to lose bone strength as we get older. If you want to increase bone density, Vitamin C plays an essential role in the production of collagen, which in turn aids bone strength. “By contrast, lifestyle factors, such as stress, physical inactivity, high caffeine and alcohol intakes and smoking can contribute to impaired bone health,” says Hope, a nutrition consultant. She adds: “Vitamin C is widely abundant in fruits and vegetables and consuming five portions of fruits and vegetables a day is enough to obtain the recommended 40mg per day. Vitamin C is water-soluble and therefore if high doses (剂量) are consumed as a supplement, the body will excrete the additional Vitamin C, which is not required.” We all know that weight lifting is good for developing muscles, but did you know that it also helps increase bone density? Studies have shown that lifting weights and strength training can aid new bone growth and maintain the existing bone structure. “Weight lifting is a brilliant lifestyle factor that can contribute to supporting long-term bone health as it encourages constant bone turnover. As a result, regular weight lifting can contribute to the development of new bone, which in turn allows the bones to get stronger,” says Hope. Strength training can particularly benefit elderly women, a study found. The women undertook a strength-training program for 12 months and saw “significant increases” in their bone density in the spine and hips—areas commonly affected by osteoporosis (骨质疏松). 28.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1? A.Introduce a topic. B.Give us a warning. C.Provide some advice. D.Put forward a question. 29.What does the underlined word “excrete” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Take in. B.Pass on. C.Get rid of. D.Make up for. 30.What can weight lifting do according to Hope? A.Change bone structure. B.Help cure osteoporosis. C.Allow muscles to turn over. D.Encourage bones to grow. 31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.What to eat at an old ageB.How to increase bone density C.Why bone density is important D.What we should do to keep healthy D For a recent study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, a group of adults read and heard four made-up words. Specific letters always appeared at the beginning or end of a word if the word contained a certain vowel (元音). Participants next read the words aloud quickly. Their ability to avoid mistakes indicated how well they absorbed the consonant-vowel patterns. But before exposure to the new words, the participants had carried out a separate test: pressing keys to react to letters and numbers. Some got a much faster, more mentally difficult version of this test. Those who tackled the hard version claimed greater cognitive fatigue (认知疲 劳) afterward—but performed better on the following language task. The researchers assume that tired learners used less conscious analysis on the word rules: they were free to learn like a child. For a related article, the team asked English-speaking adults to listen to streams of syllables secretly grouped into three-syllable “words”. Later they played pairs of three-syllable bands; one word in the pair was from the stream and the other was a new combination. Participants guessed which word was familiar and then rated their confidence. In one group of participants, some had first taken the initial mental exhaustion test. In another, some received magnetic pulses to upset activity in an area of the brain that previous research had linked to administrative control. In both groups, these interventions improved participants' performance on the syllable task when they were unsure of their responses, indicating unconscious speech analysis. (Confident responses suggest conscious recall instead.) Georgetown University neuroscientist Michael Ullman, who was not involved in the study, likes that it tested cognitive control differently. “That's really good in science because you've got supporting evidence,” he says, adding that he would like to see higher language skills such as grammar studied this way. Ghent University psychologist Eleonore Smalle, who took part in the research, offers advice based on her team's findings. When beginning to learn a language, she says, get yourself involved in its sounds, even—or especially—while distracted. “Have a good glass of wine while listening to a news report in Italian,” she suggests with a laugh. “Why not? It could help.”32.What were the participants required to do in the study? A.Respond to familiar words. B.Read and hear four new words. C.Press keys to recognize the words. D.Try to avoid mistakes while writing. 33.What is the finding of the study? A.Adults learn words much better than children. B.Cognitive fatigue is beneficial to grammar study. C.Tired learners perform better in language learning. D.Consciousness is vital to the study of new languages. 34.What does Ullman think of the conclusion of the new study? A.Useful. B.Subjective. C.Ridiculous. D.Debatable. 35.What does Smalle suggest? A.News is the best resource to learn a language. B.Italian wine enjoys a high level of popularity. C.Focus on a word's sound more than its meaning. D.Listen to a new language while doing something else. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多 余选项。 People have a lot of opinions about drinking cold water. Some claim that drinking cold water is bad for your digestion. 3 6 So what's the truth? Is it okay to enjoy a cup of cold water on a hot summer day? Long story short—yes. One major effect of drinking cold water is good for your hydration. 3 7 And it helps keep your organs functioning properly. One study that reviewed six different male athletes that consumed water at different temperatures found that drinking water at 16 degrees Celsius with a higher intake of water resulted in less sweating compared to the others. 38 Along with drinking it, cold water has been proven to also help athletes in workout recovery. One study from the Human Kinetics found that a 10-minute cold shower immediately after anexercise session can assist with hydration status. 3 9 Meanwhile, they will feel less tired, too. Even with so much to benefit from drinking cold water, there are some different opinions. 40 In fact, your preferences in water temperature won't matter when it comes to the ultimate goal of why you're drinking water in the first place—to stay hydrated and to keep your body healthy and happy. A.Drinking warm water is also a cultural practice for many. B.Others claim that cold water makes you burn more calories. C.There is a claim that drinking cold water can make you hungrier. D.Staying hydrated is important for regulating your body temperature. E.Some experts claim cold water actually isn't good for your body's health. F.Plus, a 10-minute cold shower has been shown to help athletes to feel less sore. G.The study finds cool tap water is the best temperature for rehydration purposes. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When in need of some guidance, most people immediately look for an expert on the topic. 41 , however, researchers with the Association for Psychological Science find that many experts don't actually give better advice than others—they just give more of it. “Skillful 4 2 and skillful teaching are not always the same thing, so we shouldn't 4 3 the best performers to necessarily be the best teachers as well,” says lead study author David Levari. “People seem to 4 4 quantity for quality. Our studies suggest that 4 5 in some instances, people may overvalue advice from 4 6 performers.” An experiment featured 2,085 people randomly 4 7 to either an advice or a no-advice group. After 4 8 a single round of the game of Word Scramble, participants in the advice group 4 9 advice from a random advisor and then played five more 5 0 . Meanwhile, the no-advice group just played six rounds without any 5 1 . People in the advice group did 5 2 perform better after getting some guidance, and their performances tended to 5 3 round by round. However, on average, researchers say the advice coming from the best players was not any more 5 4 than others' suggestions.“In our experiments, people given advice by top performers thought that it helped them more, but it is not always the 5 5 . Surprisingly, they thought this even though they didn't know anything about the people who wrote their advice,” Levari explains. 41.A.Luckily B.Surprisingly C.Furthermore D.Besides 42.A.search B.control C.application D.performance 43.A.allow B.expect C.force D.encourage 44.A.blame B.exchange C.mistake D.excuse 45.A.at most B.at last C.at first D.at least 46.A.average B.top C.poor D.mean 47.A.assigned B.opposed C.devoted D.exposed 48.A.writing B.designing C.playing D.losing 49.A.sent B.refused C.changed D.received 50.A.rounds B.groups C.games D.sports 51.A.rewards B.suggestions C.punishment D.hesitation 52.A.hardly B.indeed C.ever D.instead 53.A.decrease B.combine C.achieve D.improve 54.A.helpful B.hopeful C.careful D.graceful 55.A.truth B.case C.method D.idea 第二节 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region will invest 21.6 billion yuan in its transportation and traffic sector this year. I saw a man approaching me. “Hey, do you need any help?” This young guy was dressed in black. Nearly everything imaginable was tattooed (文身). “How about giving you a hand?” he said. “Well... I think I can ...” I answered. “Come on, it will only take me a while.” He took over the job. While watching him I happened to look back at his car and noticed someone sitting in the passenger seat. Thoughts of car robberies flashed through my mind. It began to pour. “Look, just stop what you're doing. I appreciate your help. You'd better get going. I'll finish after the rain stops,” I said. “Let me help you put your stuff back in the trunk,” he insisted. “Then get in my car. We'll wait with you.” “No, really. I'll take care of everything,” I said. “Get in,” he said as he grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the car. I jumped into it. “Oh, don't be scared!” I thought to myself.
