innovative educational program is making its rounds across rural areas in China. On the playground of a town
school in Tanghe county in Central China’s Henan Province, a bus full of science kids stops by. It quickly draws a
crowd of pupils eager to explore 36 is inside, sparking their curiosity.
A moment later, several robots are carefully unloaded from the bus and begin dancing with consistent
human-like moves. The children watch cheerfully, bursting 37 laughter, and the robots gently 38
(gentle) extend their hands to invite them to join the dance.
The bus was not a performance group of any kind, but a mobile science class jointly organized by the
Ministry of Education, the China Science and Technology Museum and a social media platform, 39
(aim) to sow the seeds of passion for science and among children in the country’s vast rural areas.
Lv Guofan, chairman of the Henan Association for Science and Technology, says that rural areas 40
(face) with a severe shortage of equipment and qualified teachers for scientific education. 41 (recognize)
of this challenge has driven these organizations to create hands-on science 42opportunities
(opportunity) for these students.
Since February, scientists, science educators and science museum staff, most of whom are volunteers,
43 (walk) into 18 town schools in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Henan and Gansu provinces.
In May last year, the Ministry of Education and other departments released a document 44 (strengthen)
scientific education in primary and secondary schools, promising to ensure that a more sound system will be in
place in three to five years.
This initiative reflects 45 growing commitment to creating equal chances for scientific learning
across urban and rural areas.

Crested Ibises((cid:90)(cid:91)) 36 (produce) by the Shanghai Dance Theatre(SDT). The drama was inspired by
China’s achievement in saving and protecting the crested ibis, which is known 37 “bird of good fortune”
in Asian culture.
The crested ibis, with its iconic red crest and long black beak, is believed to have existed for 60 million years
and 38 (gradual) found in China, on the Korean Peninsula, Japan and Russia until the 1960s. Bird
conservationists list pesticides, fertilizers, hunting, environmental and ecological reasons for 39 (bring)
the birds to the edge of extinction.
The crested ibis was thought to be extinct in China until seven wild birds 40 (spot) in Yangxian
County in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province in 1981, a discovery 41 caused captive breeding ((cid:92)(cid:93)
(cid:94)(cid:95)) and strengthened protection of the species. After more than 40 years of continuous conservation, 42
is estimated that there are over 11,000 crested ibises alive in 2024.
SDT introduced the drama in 2014, and integrated Chinese folk dance and Western ballet. Traditional
Chinese dance 43 (characteristic) are used in upper body movements, while ballet and Western dance
elements feature in the footwork, which makes it a masterpiece receiving 44 (recognize) both home and
abroad.
“For what was lost in the past, let’s appeal to value the future forever,” SDT put it as the slogan in the
promotional materials of the dance drama, reminding the public 45 (learn) from the lesson of the
crested ibis and protect both the environment and the ecosystem.

Chinese fashion shines on global stage
Fashion inspired by traditional Chinese culture is becoming popular again on the global stage.
Recently, the Sino-French Fashion Week at the China Cultural Center in Paris came to an end, at 56
designers showed 30 outfits, jewelry and hats, presenting the cultural legacy of Quanzhou. Quanzhou, a coastal city
in East China’s Fujian province, 57 (become) a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021.
As the highlight of the event, the closing show presented a(n) 58 (combine) of rich historical
heritage and modern fashion in the Song and Yuan dynasties. During the two dynasties, Quanzhou was one of the
59 (busy) seaports in the world.
Describing the show as “fantastic”, Isabelle Lawson says it was 60 “brilliant” idea for the designers
to transform Quanzhou’s landmarks into the patterns 61 (display) on the runway.
“The event set 62 motion a dialogue between tradition and modernity, Eastern and Western
aesthetics ((cid:104)(cid:11)),” says designer Meng Yueming. Borrowing aspects of the city’s heritage, 63 (include)
zanhua, the traditional dress of Hui’an women, local tea culture, and Dehua porcelain, Meng mixed traditional and
modern 64 (element) into his designs. He feels that using Chinese characteristics 65 (be)

Go is one of ____57____ earliest binary-based ((cid:112)(cid:113)(cid:71)(cid:114)(cid:35)) games. The movements of the black and white
pieces reflect the basic ideas of Eastern philosophy, according to Tu Ningning, who is in charge of the exhibition.
“The exhibition brings together Go culture, cutting-edge technology and contemporary art,” says Tu. “We hope
____58____ (present)the rather abstract Go game and AI in a visual context, and initiate dialogues with minimalist
art, conceptual art and expressionism.”
“In a Go game, each move should serve a long-term goal. You try to lead the opponent into your trap and force
them to follow your ‘____59____ (guide)’ till they lose,” explains Wang Wei, a Go player among the visitors to the
exhibition.
“The players’ personalities ____60____ (reveal) during the game, and one’s weaknesses are exposed to the
opponent,” she adds. “A decent winner always ____61____ (try) to beat the opponent ____62____ no more than one
or two points as a gesture ((cid:115)(cid:116)) of respect for the other side. ”
Tu says that the balance between the black and white pieces, the beauty in the ____63____ (strategy) placement
of the pieces, ____64____ the energy flow following each move inspired artists to create oil paintings, sculptures,
____65____ (digital) generated pictures and silk-screen prints for the exhibition.

The origins of Citywalk can be traced back to London. Strictly speaking, this form of urban tourism is not as
casual and aimless as it may appear. Originally, city walks 37 (refer) to guided tours where 38
(participant) followed a planned route under the guidance of tour conductors, 39 a strong emphasis on
diving deep into the city’s rich history and 40 (diversity) cultures. As an increasing number of travel

A survey done by the WHO showed that after the plant 41 (put) into use, the incidence rate of
malaria dropped from 45% to 11%. Even if someone is infected with malaria, it’s not a significant issue because of

The one thing most people “know” about the Great Wall — it is the only man-made structure 37

38 is difficult to see it with the human eye even from low Earth orbit or to get it 39 (distinguish) in

The emperors of many Chinese dynasties throughout history instituted wall-building projects 40

Shandong Province is made out of hard-packed soil and estimated to be about 2,500 years old. For centuries during

Traditional Yimeng Clay Whistles
The rough yet fascinating Yimeng clay whistle ((cid:188)(cid:189)) was once one of the most popular 36 (toy)
among the kids in the Yimeng Mountain area in East China’s Shandong province. People usually tie the clay
whistle to them with five-colored threads and children wear it on their chests, 37 is a way of expressinggood wishes.
The traditional whistle is colourful with 38 (it) rough and outlandish ((cid:190)(cid:191)(cid:35)) shapes and simple
yet smart form, 39 (make) it a typical symbol of Yimeng culture. Human figures and animals usually
feature in the Yimeng clay whistles. The most 40 (common) used colors include red, green, brown,
yellow, blue and purple.
Chuzhuang, a village in Hedong district of Linyi city, 41 (produce) clay whistles for more than

percent over 52 past 25 years, while rice has increased only 7 percent.
A taste for meat is 53 (actual) behind the change: An important part of its corn is used to feed
chickens, pigs, and cattle. Another reason for corn's rise: The government encourages farmers to grow corn instead
of rice 54 (improve) water quality. Corn uses less water 55 rice and creates less fertilizer((cid:16)

According to the World Bank, China accounts for about 30 percent of total 57 (globe)fertilizer
consumption. The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture finds that between 2005—when the government 58
