Tips for Translation
Compare the following pairs of sentences and discuss what have been omitted during the process of translation.
(1) 所有的物体都由分子组成，而分子又由原子组成。
All bodies consist of molecules and molecules of atoms.
(2) 根据水的蒸发现象，人们知道液体在一定的条件下能变成气体。
From the evaporation of water people know that liquids can turn into gases under certain conditions.
词的省略是汉译英时常见的现象。原文中有些词语从译文的角度来看往往是多余的，可以或必须删去，不能只字不漏地生搬硬套，不然会引起文理不通、意思含糊等弊病。词的省略的目的是使译文符合英语的表达习惯和修辞特点。
