Have you ever listened to the sound of a raindrop? You might call the small sounds earth songs. Is it
possible to catch earth songs, to put them into words?
Long ago, poets in Japan listened, watched, and did catch the beauty of the earth’s songs. They did
this with the tiniest poems in the world, called haiku. A haiku is a poem that is just three lines and
seventeen syllables long. And the poets who wrote them watched and listened, not only with their eyes and
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂ears, but also with their hearts!
In their haiku, the early Japanese poets caught the colors, sounds, and beauties of the seasons of the
year. They sang of their islands’ beauties. Their miniature poems were not meant to fully describe a scene
or to explain it but rather were a flash impression.
The old poets are not the only writers of haiku. Today Japanese farmers, shopkeepers, grandparents,
and students write it, and because of its strong appeal, haiku is written in many other countries
throughout the world.
Interestingly enough, Japanese poetry has had a long and colorful history. In the pre-haiku period in
the early eighth century, Japanese poets wrote katauta, poems in a question-and-answer form, using two
people. Each three-line verse(诗节) contained about seventeen syllables that could be delivered easily in
one breath—just as one would naturally ask or answer a question. This has remained the basic pattern for
traditional Japanese poetry throughout the centuries.
Another form that appeared was the tanka, which contained five lines and thirty-one syllables(5-7-5-
7-7), written by either one or two persons. From that evolved(发展) the renga, which contained more
than one verse, or link. Written by three or more people, it could have as many as 100 links! The first
verse of the renga introduced a subject. It had three lines and was called the hokku, or starting verse.
Renga parties became a great pleasure.
Around 1450, haikai with no renga became popular. This style of linked verse contained puns(双
关) and was humorous and amusing. The opening three lines were still called a hokku, and from haikai
and hokku the term haiku evolved.

III.七选五
Negative thoughts we have about ourselves can destroy our spirits. Many of us have problems with
negative thoughts. The negative thoughts lead to bad feelings and they make you believe that the bad things
you are suffering are actually true. In short, they bring you focus on your failures, which will make you
depressed. What can you do to avoid negative thoughts to affect you? 1
◎Recognize that actions always follow beliefs
Whatever you believe, you'll experience more of them. 2 . So start believing the best about
yourself and believe that you're valuable person.
◎Picture the good things
If you want to change the negative tapes playing in your heads, you have to imagine yourself
positively that means judging yourself right. 3 . How would that look? Draw it in your mind and
expand it.
◎ 4
You may talk to yourself with statements like “if only” or “what if”. The former keeps reminding you
of the past with regret, while the latter keeps you fearful of the future. There is nothing you can do about
the past and the future isn't here yet.
◎Develop positive views
Instead of always putting yourself down in your head, think of some things you actually like about
yourself. Tell yourself “I am able. I'm good at it.” instead of saying “I'm not good enough”, 5 .
Thinking poorly gets us nowhere and is extremely selflimiting. Decide, today,to turn off the
negative channel in your mind and develop your true possibilities.
A.Forget the past
B.Live in the moment
C.Here are some suggestions
D.Make friends with optimistic people
E.Imagine a picture about yourself
F.Always keep positive, rather than say something negative
G.You'll also find your actions are suitable for your beliefs
G。]
3.E [根据上文“If you want to change the negative tapes playing in your heads, you have to
imagine yourself positively that means judging yourself right.(如果你想改变脑中播放的消极磁带,你必
How would that look? Draw it in
your mind and expand it.”
4.B [本空为本段小标题,根据本段最后一句“There is nothing you can do about the past and
the future isn't here yet.(你对过去无能为力,而未来还没有到来。)”
B。]
5.F [根据上文“Tell yourself ‘I am able. I'm good at it.’instead of saying ‘I'm not good

Dear Wendy,
I’m so glad to receive your letter. And it is really a coincidence that you asked me about the Tang
poems, and I just have learnt something about them.
The Tang poems are various in forms and subjects.Generally speaking, they can be divided into two
groups—classical poems and modern poems. Not only the length of a line but also the length of a poem is
limited to a certain number of words. There are often four or eight or twelve lines with five or seven words
in each line.Poets wrote poems for different purposes, for example, exposing the darkness of the society and
describing the beautiful scenes.
There were many famous poets during the Tang Dynasty, such as Li Bai,Du Fu and Bai Juyi.If you
want to read more, the book 300TangPoems is a good choice, which includes poems of many well-known
poets. After reading them, you will have a better understanding of the Tang poems.
Yours sincerely,
