This is a great demo for learning more about how to draw people.
Stage 1 With a 4H pencil, sketch an egg-shape for the head, in three-quarters view. Sketch the neck
and shoulders. Add a circle indicating the shoulder joint. Check your proportions with one of the
proportioning tools.
Stage 2 Add lines for the upper and lower forearm. For correct proportions, compare the length of the
upper and lower arm to the height of the head, using one of the proportioning tools. Sketch lines to indicate
the sides and bottom of the basket. Add lines that indicate the ridges of the hand’s knuckles and thumb. At
this stage, the hand should look like a mitten, since the individual fingers are not yet defined.
Stage 3 Sketch in placement lines for the eyes and nose, and add a line for the center of the face.
Sketch ellipses(椭圆) for the basket. Then go back and refine the eyes, nose, mouth and eyebrows. Add
the individual fingers on the hand.
Stage 4 Sketch the ear and add more definition to the facial features, arm, hand and fingers. Erase any
obsolete guidelines with a white vinyl eraser. Add the basic form of the clothing and head scarf, noting
where major folds occur. Also add short lines indicating the arm on the far side of the basket.

The Nazca Lines are a collection of giant geoglyphs(地画), located in the Peruvian coastal plain about
250 miles south of Lima, Peru. Created by the ancient Nazca culture in South America, the 2,000-year-old
Nazca Lines can only be fully viewed from the air given their massive size.
There are three basic types of the Nazca Lines: straight lines, geometric designs and pictorial(图画的)
representations. More than 800 straight lines are found on the coastal plain, some of which are 30 miles
long. Additionally, there are over 300 geometric designs, which include basic shapes such as triangles,
rectangles, as well as arrows, zigzags and wavy lines. The Nazca Lines are perhaps best known for the
representations of about 70 animals and plants, some of which measure up to 1,200 feet long. Examples
include a spider, hummingbird, monkey, whale, dog, duck, flower, and tree.
More recent research suggested that the Nazca Lines' purpose was related to water, a valuable thing in
the desert. The geoglyphs weren't used as an irrigation system or a guide to find water, but rather as part of
a ritual(仪式) to pray to the gods—an effort to bring much-needed rain.
The Nazca Lines are located in the desert plains of the Rio Grande de Nasca river basin. The desert
floor is covered in a layer of deep red color rocks. The ancient people created their designs by removing the
top 12 to 15 inches of rock, revealing the lighter-colored sand below. They likely began with small-scale
models and carefully increased the models' proportions(规模) to create the large designs.
Given the small amount of rain, wind and erosion in the desert, the geoglyphs have remained largely
unharmed throughout the centuries. But the geoglyphs aren't completely safe. In 2009, the Nazca Lines
suffered the first recorded rain damage. Five years later, the environmental group Greenpeace damaged an
area near the hummingbird geoglyph during a media stunt.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission has called for more awareness from the public
on the mental health of the young，as part of efforts to mark World Mental Health Day.
More than 15 percent of the Chinese youth have been found with mental problems，and about 30
million young people under 17 are suffering from depression ， the Shanghaibased Wenhui Daily
reported.
The World Health Organization estimated that in the near future，the rate of children with mental
problems will increase by 50 percent，and mental problems will become a major factor behind death and
illness in the young worldwide.
Deng Xiaohong，the spokesperson for the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau，said rapid social
change is one of the reasons behind the rising number of youngsters with psychological problems.
If these mental diseases are not addressed on time，occurrence of crime，drugtaking and other
dangerous behavior are expected to rise.
Experts said mental diseases could be caused by many factors，such as the inability to handle
interpersonal relations well，unstable emotions and pressure from the overload of study.A number of
experts have also said the onechild policy is another reason leading to poor mental health in the young.
Children were said to be too “spoiled” and “selfish” in one child families.Schools in many cities were
reported rolling out measures to help students maintain their mental wellbeing.Yin Jingmiao，a teacher of
the Beijing No.105 Middle School，told China Daily that the school invites psychologists to provide
counseling for students three times a month.“Students can be arranged to have 40minute counseling
sessions，” Yin said.The school also gives lectures on mental health to senior grade students before they
take the national college entrance exams，to help ease any anxiety arising from the tests.

A painting stamped with more than 4.8 million fingerprints and cost over 80,000 yuan in paper has set
the Guinness World Record for the largest fingerprint painting.
The fingerprint painting,named Descendants of the Dragon,was created by Kuang Xianpeng,a 35-
year-old painter from Zhuzhou, Hunan Province.It describes a mix of nine Chinese dragons and six arts in
ancient Chinese culture.
With a surface area of 1195.14 square meters,51.526 meters long and 23.195 meters wide,the whole
painting used 685 pieces of xuan paper and took Kuang over two years to complete.It also took 40
volunteers two whole days to lay out the painting for Guinness certification officer to measure.
Kuang said it was a very arduous journey,and he had used up all his spare time to finish the work.“It
was very hard to master the amount of strength you put in your fingers,” he said.“You can’t press too hard
or too light.Otherwise,your prints will blur.I have wasted over 300 pieces of paper due to blurred
fingerprints.”
