Attention Should Be Paid to Spelling
Nowadays, students attach less importance to the spelling of words in the process of English
study, greatly influencing students’ writing and bringing on worries among teachers. As I see it, it’
s high time that our school took action to improve our English spelling.
First of all, it’s essential for teachers to modify exams to add some factors into spelling,
which will help students to pay more attention to it. Besides, the school should also set effective
mechanisms to help teachers as well as the students to realize the importance. Finally, varieties of
activities, ranging from spelling competitions to exhibitions, are sure to make students become
interested in spelling.
If measures are taken right away, we can make a great difference to our English spelling in
the near future.

Victor's fingers tightened around the locker door as he made his decision. "Actually, no," he
admitted, forcing himself to meet Teresa's eyes. His voice trembled slightly but he continued to
explain that he had wanted to impress her. Then Teresa's expression shifted from surprise to
something softer, perhaps even admiration, saying, "Honesty is more impressive." Victor felt his
cheeks grow warm, but this time it wasn't from embarrassment. As Teresa walked away, he
noticed how her yellow ribbon caught the sunlight - a sight far brighter than any lie he could have
told.

Two weeks later, Victor was waiting outside the library when Teresa arrived with two cups of
hot chocolate and a worn French dictionary. "I thought we could study together," she said,
handing him a cup. The afternoon sunlight filtered through the trees as they settled at a study table.
Victor traced his finger along the phonetic guides Teresa had penciled in, each mark representing
hours of her own learning. They spent the afternoon practicing basic phrases, with Victor carefully
repeating after Teresa. When he correctly pronounced a French word for the first time, Teresa
clapped excitedly. Victor realized that being himself and making real effort was far more
rewarding than pretending.

其他选项如touch(轻触)、press(按压)或stretch(伸展)均无法准确
42. A. admiring
negelect(忽略)、miss(错过)、detect(发现)均与excited and fearless
43. B. signal
command(命令)、
symptom(症状)、reminder(提醒物)不如signal 贴合跳伞的专业术语。
目标)、hopeless(绝望)、breathless(喘不过气)均未直接描述昏迷后的肢体状态。
45. D. took over
blow out(吹灭)、get over(熬过,度过)与情境不符;broke out(火山,战争等突然爆发)。
46. C. Miraculously
希望地)、Accidentally(偶然地)、Originally(最初)均无法突出幸存的小概率事件。
47. D. completed
accompany(陪同)、tackle(应对)、suspect(怀疑)与后文紧急跑800 米救援"的连贯性
48. D. dash
pack(走)、jog(慢跑)
dive(俯冲)词义不符合题意。
49. B. fate
competence(能力)、
fortune(运气,财产)、fault(过失,错误)未直接表达对不可抗力的情绪。
50. D. practised 根据上文,paralyzed (瘫痪)from the waist down 和本句with a walking
51. C. motto 将If you can, you must experience
(经历)standard(标准)、principle(原则)不如motto 个性化。
witnessed
(见证)、impressed(留下印象)、distinguish(区分,辨别)无法表达身份标签的局限性。
54. B. extend
Shift(转换)、emerge(出现)、enhance(提高,增强)与文意矛盾。
55. A. dance
learn to dance in the rain
Pedal(脚踩)、pose(摆好姿势)、stamp(跺脚)缺乏主动应对的意味。

56. as
57. were characterized
58. when
引导,相当于in which。
59. the
60. creating
62. filled
考查过去分词作后置定语,sky 与fill 构成被动关系,相当于which was filled with...,
63. what

W: I thought the fence would match our house’s colour better.
M: I see what you mean. It does stand out a bit.
W: Maybe we could colour it to go well with the house and surroundings .
(Text 2)
W: Have you heard that Peter got a job offer from a big company?
M: Really? But he’s already doing well at the local company.
W: Yeah, he’s unsure about accepting it. He’s like a big fish in a small pond here.
(Text 3)
W: So, Len, you’re bringing both your daughters to tomorrow’s picnic, right?
M: Well, that was the plan, but my youngest has come down with the flu, and my wife will stay
home with her.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. But your nephew’s still coming with you though?
M: Yes.
(Text 4)
M: Hey, are you OK? Your runny nose and cough tell me that you either have a cold or flu.
5
W: Neither, it’s just that I can’t stand this smell of the paint in the living room. Any idea how
to get rid of it?
M: Well, maybe we can surf the Internet and see if we can come up with something.
(Text 5)
W: Did you manage to get everything on my list? I’m about to prepare dinner.
M: I think so. Two bottles of milk, half a dozen eggs, some meat …
W: Where is the fish?
M: Oh, no, I forgot it.
(Text 6)
W: Can you tell me a little about Mexico City?
M: Sure, what would you like to know?
W: Well, I’m going to meet some clients there next month, but only for two days. What should I
see?
M: Oh, you should visit the Palace of Fine Arts. It’s really beautiful.
W: OK. Anything else?
M: You shouldn’t miss the Museum of Modern Art. It is a must-see. It has some amazing
paintings.
W: Great! And is there anything I can do for free?
M: Sure. You can walk in the parks or go to outdoor markets. It’s a fantastic city!
(Text 7)
M: Wow, Jane! I can hardly believe that you’re running for class president now. You must be
excited!
W: Actually, I’m not excited at all.
M: Why? You should be excited because you are running for the highest position.
W: I’m not that popular, Bruce. I’ll be competing with three of the most popular students
here.
M: There are plenty of students at this school who believe in you. That’s the reason why they
recommend you. They believe that you are a great leader.
W: Do you think so? I don’t even know how I’ll start campaigning. I’m not a good speaker, either.
M: Stop worrying so much. You have to start by believing in yourself. You have your family and
friends to support you. Look. I made dozens of posters and flyers for your campaign .
W: Oh, thank you! You’re such a good friend, Bruce!
(Text 8)
W: Oh, I finished my report finally. How about your paper?
M: Done. But I’m waiting for an important call. By the way, are you going to the café? Can you
bring me something to eat?
W: Sure. What would you like?
M: Hmm ... I think I’ll have a chicken sandwich.
W: Okay, a chicken sandwich. Anything else?
M: Yes, bring me tomato soup, and a salad and a chicken sandwich.
6
W: Okay. A piece of pie for dessert ?
M: No. Bring me three cakes and some cookies too.
W: Cakes and cookies?
M: Right. That’s too much. Forget cookies. Just bring me the cakes and a glass of milk and some
coffee and ...
W: Still more? Why don’t I just bring back the whole café!
(Text 9)
W: OK, tell me about yourself.
M: Well, last year in school, I played on the football team. It kept me busy, but I learned to
manage my time. And also, it has been a great experience in learning how to work on the team
with other players.
W: How would your teachers describe you?
M: My teachers would say I work hard to get my homework done on time, and I’m not afraid
to ask for help if I need it. They’d also tell you I am friendly to my classmates.
W: Well, why should I hire you over the other eight students?
M: I think I am the very person you can rely on. I’ll arrive to work on time and do the best I can
on the job. Besides, I’ve done volunteer work, and now I’d like to gain actual work
experience. If you hire me, you’ll get someone who is always willing to learn.
(Text 10)
M: Hello. Welcome to the programme. In America, May and June are the traditional months for
graduations. A listener in China, Wang Ming, who is about to get an engineering degree, wants
to know how American college graduates find jobs. Right now, the answer is: not very easily. A
latest study on the college job market showed that employers wanted to hire 22% fewer
graduates this year than last. The study also showed that just 20% of those who looked for
jobs before graduation have found one by now. This is compared to half of students who had
looked for a job by this time two years ago. But one difference: fewer of this year’s graduates
have started to search for jobs. Engineering graduates were more likely to have started their
job search already, and to have accepted a job. This is among the best-paid professions for
people with just a college degree. On average, engineering majors expect to start at about
$62,000 a year.
