A
Once upon a time ， a poor family had only one small roll of expensive gold wrapping (包
装)paper. The father had no money to buy any more. On Christmas Eve his 5-year-old daughter

BEIJING , April 14―Thousands of dolphins stopped the suspected Somali pirate(海
盗)ships when they were trying to attack Chinese merchant
(商业的)ships passing the Gulf of Aden ， the China Radio International reported on
Monday.
The Chinese merchant ships which were escorted by a China's fleet (舰队)sailed on the
Gulf of Aden when they met some suspected pirate ships. Thousands of dolphins suddenly

The suspected pirate ships stopped and then turned away. The pirates could only cry for
their littleness before the great number of dolphins. The amazing scene continued for a while.
China first sent its three-ship fleet on Dec. 26 last year after the United Nations Security
Council called on countries to patrol(巡逻) the waters off Somalia.
China ‘s first fleet has escorted 206 ships ， including 29 foreign merchant ships ， and
successfully saved three foreign merchant ships from pirate attacks.
About 20 percent of Chinese merchant ships passing through the waters off Somalia were
attacked by pirates from January to November in 2008, before the fleet was sent there.
A total of seven ships ， either owned by China or carrying Chinese goods and sailors ，
were hi-jacked (劫持）.
Tianyu No. 8 ,a Chinese fishing ship with 16 Chinese and 8 foreign sailors on it, was
hijacked by Somali pirates on Nov. 14 and freed in early February.
The second fleet of Chinese escort ships arrived at the Gulf of Aden on Monday to replace
the first fleet.
