Searching the school bags one by one, she didn't find anything that isn't permitted to bring to school.
What she saw were things usually seen in Elementary school pupils' school bags: text books, pencil boxes,
calculators(计算器),snacks and food for lunch. Nearly all the students accepted the check peacefully, and
some even offered to give the teacher a hand. There was one girl, though, who was watching everything in
anxiety. When it's her turn to be checked, eyes to eyes, Mrs. Nabors' immediately sensed that the second-
grader was carrying more than simply a forbidden game in her luggage.
When the teacher went to get the bag, she noticed something moving within. She'd seen a lot of
unusual things that kids had slipped in, but the wiggling(扭动)shape was new to her. She had never

clothes. Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. B. She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was
determined to convince her I should be in the "good" group. "Why?" I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder. "I know what you want, Karina," she said, "but your group
needs you. I need you to help them get a passing grade on this task. Only you can help them."

they would tell him that he was acting like a little kid, too scared to go on the park's best ride. He felt dorky
and awkward standing there. The sea of people between them and the Twisted Twister was steadily getting
smaller. Hudson smiled weakly as his friends cheered when they counted just three rope barriers to go.
Then two. Then one. And then they were at the stairs. Davion, Justin, and Trey were nearly jumping up
and down with excitement. But Hudson could only hear people screaming, and he couldn't even tell if the
screams were because of delight or terror. And he knew, suddenly, that he could not make it.

After that, grandpa hardly came to our house.
One weekend before my grandpa's birthday, I came to visit him. Seeing grandpa sitting in his
armchair, dull-looking, I was consumed with mixed feelings. I wheeled grandpa to the sunshine in thecourtyard, talking to him. He couldn't express himself clearly and spoke in short bursts, but I listened to
him patiently and carefully just as I used to be a little boy.
It was then that I noticed a shadow box with some old and yellowish photos in it. I picked one up, in
which my brother, several boys in our neighborhood, and I were playing basketball with grandpa cheering
us on twenty years before. My mind flashed back to those beautiful memories. Back then, Grandpa was in
good physical condition and we were all wearing basketball jerseys, playing and laughing with abandon. I
presented the photo to my grandpa, pointing at each member and reminding him of their names. Incredibly,
grandpa could speak out the name of every player. I even caught a soft light in grandpa's eyes and a smile
on his lips.

I asked again. Without saying anything further, she got up, pushed me out of the room and slammed(砰地
关上) the door in my face.
I stood there silently for a second. Then, I turned around, went out of the house, and set out in the
cold to tackle the enemy that lay in my driveway. But I couldn't calm down. I was really angry that she
would leave me to battle this alone. All I wanted was some help. The more I remembered every "no" she
had ever said to me, the angrier I became.
I fought tirelessly, my short arms swinging from side to side while the wind cut against my cheeks.
After one long hour, I was not even halfway done. Looking at the victorious snow, I thought of Dad's
