I was writing an interesting Christmas story when the news about the death of 20 children in
Connecticut came. My two daughters are about the same age as some of the children, and I
was too sad to continue to write. I felt I could never finish my story this year.
I held a family meeting and told my daughters, “This year, we are going to give away our
Christmas. You will still get to choose things you like, but we will give them to the children
that have a greater need than you.” I was surprised at my daughters' attitude(态度). They spent
even more time happily trying to pick out the perfect presents.
It seemed to our little girls that Christmas Eve would never arrive, and they marked the days
off on the calendar. When it finally came, we drove to the apartment where a poor family lived.
Donna insisted on playing Santa to move everything, even though the apartment was on the
third floor. When we heard the children's happy voices, we shouted, “Merry Christmas.”
The next day we played card games and built a snowman, although we had no presents. I
believed the girls realized the Christmas was really about love for family and friends.Suddenly, my elder daughter said, “Daddy, I want to give away our Christmas next year.” I was
happy for my daughter's kind heart for others.
