Dear fellow students,
In light of a recent survey that highlights the increasing dependence on social media among us,
I am calling on /appealing to everyone to take immediate action to resist this addiction.
While social media is an excellent tool for staying connected and well-informed, excessive use
can lead to significant distractions from our studies and foster a sense of isolation. To address this
issue, we should set boundaries for our daily screen time, redirecting our focus from social media to
more enriching real-life hobbies and activities. Moreover, the Student Union will launch initiatives
that emphasize in-person interactions, such as book clubs, English corners, and outdoor sports
events.
Don’t hesitate to join us in embracing a balanced digital life. With joint and constant efforts, we
are bound to regain our focus, deepen our connections, and thrive beyond screens!
The Students’ Union
续写
One evening, seeing the lady clearing snow off her sidewalk, I made a decision. With some
homemade cookies and a broad smile, I went over to introduce myself, and asked her about the tree’s
dangling ornaments. She gladly gave me information about the stores selling them. As the evening
wore on, the topic of our conversation moved from Christmas trees, to the community here, and to
our families. Our third friend. Finally came the Christmas Eve. That night, our first Christmas tree
turned out to be the most remarkable tree I had ever seen. Its warm glow filled the room with a sense
of wonder, which somehow dispelled all the cold and loneliness we felt as newcomers. No winter
lasts forever, and spring is sure to come.

M: Excuse me. I’m in Room 217, but I seem to have lost my room card.
W: That’s no problem, sir. I’ll just need your ID card before I can issue the new one.
Text 2
M: Have you finished the sales report, Shelly?
W: Well, I have a presentation to prepare.
M: But it’s really important that it’s finished as soon as possible.
W: I’ll do it now. Ted isn’t too busy, so he can give me a hand.

W: Look, Bill. There’s no way we can paint the whole house ourselves. I think we should have a
professional do it.M: But Natalie, if we do it, we can save a lot of money. I’d rather spend the money on new furniture.

M: You’re late again, Susan. And please, I don’t want to hear any excuses this time.
W: You’ve got every right to be like that, Mr. Williams. But the bus was unreliable today.

M: Rachel, do you know what our physics assignment is? I don’t think Professor Parker
mentioned it in class.
W: He won’t give out assignments in class anymore. We’re supposed to look at the website,
remember?
M: Oh, yeah. That’s right.

W: Henry, do you know if there are any displays of ballet dancing at the festival? I’m particularly
interested in that as I do it as a hobby.
M: There isn’t any ballet, I’m afraid, but there’ll be a demonstration of traditional dances from all
around the country.
W: Oh, that’d be nice. Where’s that being held?
M: It’s in the market in the town center-the outdoor one, not the covered market. And it’s on at 2
and 5 every afternoon of the festival.
W: Lovely. I’m interested in all kinds of dancing, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy that!

M: Good morning. This is Far and Away Travel Agents. How can I help you today?
W: Hello. I’d like to book a mid-week break to Berlin at the end of this month.
M: Let’s see… Unfortunately, all mid-week trips to Berlin in July are fully booked unless there’s a
cancelation. But we do have availability in August.
W: Oh no! I can’t go any other time.
M: It’s much cheaper to go on holiday in the middle of the week than at the weekend. That’s why
mid-week holidays always sell out very quickly. You need to book earlier.
W: Can you suggest anything else?
M: Well, Paris is very nice in July. Let’s see what’s available…

W: David, you’ve been so busy lately.
M: Yeah, but it’s okay. The big project I’m working on is almost done. It involves upgrading the
company’s website and creating a new brand strategy.
W: Great. Get some rest after you finish it.
M: I don’t think I can. I’m thinking about moving to another company.
W: Really? Did you get a job offer from somewhere?
M: No. Actually, I love working as a designer here.
W: Of course. You also said you sometimes had conflicts of opinions with your manager but that
was bearable.M: Yes, I did. I’m satisfied with almost everything here. The only thing is, I need to have more
flexible hours.
W: Now, I get it.
M: So I might start a job search from the end of this month.
W: Good luck. I’m sure you’ll find something.

M: Hi, Rebecca. Thanks for talking to Eastern Press today. How is it going with the new sports
range?
W: Hi, Steve. Not bad at all.
M: The idea of “sports at night” is such an absolutely original one. Can you tell me more about it?
W: Well, in many big cities, it’s almost impossible for people to go jogging during the day.
Everyone’s very busy. Anyway, one night in bed, I had this idea for a new type of sports clothing.
M: So you developed this range called “Night Jogging”.
W: That’s right, and it appeals to men and women of all ages. The clothes are made from brightly
colored material and have highly reflective stickers, making joggers easily visible in the dark to
ensure their safety.
M: Was it difficult to promote?
W: It was practically impossible to attract interest at the beginning. But then we won the support of
a local sports star. Since then, it’s been absolutely amazing.
M: What are your plans for the future?
W: We would like to launch our range in China next year. And maybe in other countries after that.
M: Well, we wish you the best of luck.

M: Hello everyone. This is the announcement about a green event called Rivers in the Mekong
Delta and Actions of Youth.
The event will be organized from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on 17 August, at Can Tho University. OK.
Now, let me briefly tell you about the aims and activities at the event.
The event helps the young people to better understand the current issues at rivers in the
Mekong Delta and how climate change has influenced lives and communities. There will be many
scientists, artists, lecturers, and students who are keen on environmental issues. One unique aspect
of the event is that the English language will be used throughout, so you’ll have a chance to improve
your English.
About the activities, greetings will go first, followed by reports from experts in the
environment. You will also have an opportunity to talk and make friends during tea break. Finally, a
round-table discussion on how to protect rivers will help you to speak out and share your ideas.
That’s so wonderful, right? At the end of the event, each of you will receive a certificate for
attending the conference from the organizers. Hope to see you at the event!
