Music, a universal language, takes countless forms across cultures. Below are five major genres that shaped global
soundscapes:
Classical Music Emerging in Europe between the 18th and 19th centuries, classical music emphasizes orchestral
instruments like violins and pianos. Composers like Beethoven and Mozart structured works around harmonies and
complex melodies. Today, it remains central to formal concerts and film scores.
Rock 'n' Roll Born in the 1950s U. S., rock blended blues, jazz, and country. Electric guitars and bold lyrics defined its
rebellious spirit. Bands like The Beatles and Queen revolutionized it into subgenres like punk and metal.
Jazz Rooted in African-American communities, jazz thrives on improvisation(即兴创作) . Louis Armstrong'strumpet solos and Ella Fitzgerald's scat singing broke traditional rules, making it a symbol of creativity and freedom.
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Using synthesizers and digital beats, EDM exploded in late20th-century clubs.
Artists like Daft Punk and Calvin Harris create high-energy tracks for festivals, emphasizing rhythm over lyrics.
World Music This category includes traditional styles from non-Western cultures, such as Indian sitar music, African
drumming, and Latin salsa. It preserves cultural identity while blending with modern sounds.

I opened my car window and called out “Ma’ am! Ma’am!” The only lady in the parking lot looked around until
she saw me. “I just wanted to tell how nice you look today,” I said. “The colors you have on are beautiful on you.” Her
face registered surprise for a second, and then she smiled. “Thank you!” she called back. Her final steps to her car
seemed lighter, and I smiled to myself.
I grew up with very few cheerleaders in my own life. When I was in the middle of fighting a battle for my life, I
had been confirmed depression, along with anxiety. It has taken many years and more effort and determination than I
thought I was capable of recovering from this illness. With no cheerleaders in my court, I fought this battle alone. I am
proud of the progress I have made thus far. There are times when I thought, if only I had had someone to hold me and
say, “Susan, I believe in you. You can do this, and I'll be there every step of the way.” I wonder how much sooner I
would have recovered. I'll never know.
So I have made it a point in recent years to praise people, especially women and girls. Instead of just thinking that
someone looks nice or did a great job, I say it out loud. It doesn't take long, and it's easy. So, I wonder, why don't more
people do this? As women, we have learned from our role models to be quiet. We downplay our own achievements even
when we do receive a rare compliment. Now, when I compliment someone and she denies, I say to her, “Just say thank
you.”
Most women are relieved that they don't have to deny the compliment; they can accept the praise without guilt.
Cheerleading doesn't require any skills. It only takes a few seconds, although you do have to remind yourself to do it.
Eventually, it becomes a habit.
24. How did the lady feel after hearing the author's praise?
A. Anxious. B. Delighted. C. Relaxed. D. Worried.
25. What made the author become a cheerleader?
A. Her experience. B. Her habit. C. Her personality. D. Her ambition.
26. What does the author hope when she praises someone?A. She can be rewarded. B. She can be appreciated.
C. They can accept the praise. D. They should say something.
27. Which of the following best describes the author?
A. Caring. B. Brave. C. Outgoing. D. Honest.

The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is one of the most extraordinary natural
wonders on Earth. Stretching over 2,300 kilometers, it is not only the largest coral reef system in the world but is also
visible from space. Home to thousands of species of marine life, including fish, turtles, sharks, and corals, the reef is a
biodiversity hot spot and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The reef's vibrant ecosystem is built by tiny organisms called coral polyps. These creatures secrete calcium
carbonate (碳酸盐) to form hard skeletons, which over time create the complex structures we recognize as coral
reefs. The reef's health depends on a delicate balance of environmental conditions, including water temperature, salinity,
and sunlight.
However, the Great Barrier Reef faces significant threats. Climate change is the most pressing issue, as rising ocean
temperatures cause coral bleaching—a phenomenon where corals expel the algae (海藻) that give them color and
nutrients. Without these algae, corals turn white and become more susceptible to disease. Pollution from agricultural
runoff and plastic waste further exacerbates the problem, while overfishing disrupts the reef's ecological balance.
Efforts to protect the reef are underway. The Australian government has implemented (贯彻)stricter regulations
on fishing and pollution, and scientists are exploring innovative solutions such as coral farming and genetic engineering
to restore damaged areas. Public awareness campaigns also play a crucial role in encouraging sustainable practices
among tourists and local communities.
Despite these efforts, the future of the Great Barrier Reef remains uncertain. Experts warn that without immediate
and coordinated global action, the reef could lose much of its biodiversity within the next few decades. This would not
only be a tragedy for marine life but also have devastating(毁灭性的) consequences for the millions of people who
depend on the reef for their livelihoods.
28. What makes the Great Barrier Reef visible from space?
A. Its UNESCO World Heritage status. B. The vibrant colors of coral polyps.
C. Its length of over 2,300 kilometers. D. The high density of marine species.
29. Why are coral polyps essential to the reef's structure?
A. They provide nutrients to algae. B. They control water temperature and salinity.
C. They protect the reef from plastic pollution. D. They form hard skeletons using calcium carbonate.
30. What is the main cause of coral bleaching?
A. Agricultural runoff increasing salinity. B. Rising ocean temperatures forcing algae out.
C. Overfishing destroying ecological balance. D. Plastic waste blocking sunlight penetration.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph about saving the Great Barrier Reef?
A. Global cooperation is critical to its survival. B. Reducing tourism is the most urgent step.
C. Technological solutions alone will succeed. D. Australia's current efforts are sufficient.
D(unit 8 topic talk 话题)
Urban green spaces, such as parks, gardens, and tree-lined streets, have long been recognized for their aesthetic
(审美的) and environmental benefits. However, recent research highlights their significant impact on mental health,
particularly in densely (密集地) populated cities. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Cambridge
analyzed data from over 10,000 urban residents across 15 cities worldwide, revealing a strong correlation between
access to green spaces and improved mental well-being.
The study found that individuals living within 500 meters of a green space reported lower levels of stress, anxiety,
and depression compared to those without such access. Researchers attribute (归因于) this to several factors. First,
green spaces provide opportunities for physical activity, such as walking, jogging, or cycling, which are known to reduce
stress hormones and boost mood. Second, exposure to nature has a calming effect on the brain, reducing mental
fatigue (精神疲劳) and' improving concentration. Third, green spaces foster social interactions, creating a sense of
community and belonging that can alleviate feelings of loneliness.
Interestingly, the study also revealed that the quality of green spaces matters more than their size. Well-maintained
parks with diverse vegetation, seating areas, and recreational facilities had a greater positive impact than larger but
poorly maintained areas. This suggests that urban planners should prioritize the design and upkeep of green spaces to
maximize their mental health benefits.
Despite these findings, the study also identified challenges. In many cities, green spaces are unevenly distributed,
with wealthier neighborhoods having better access than low-income areas. This inequality highlights the need for
policies that ensure equitable (公平合理的) access to green spaces for all residents.
The researchers recommend several strategies to address these issues. These include increasing investment in urban
green infrastructure, integrating green spaces into urban planning, and promoting community involvement in maintaining
local parks. By prioritizing green spaces, cities can not only enhance mental health but also address broader environmental
challenges, such as air pollution and climate change.
32. What did the study find about individuals living near green spaces?
A. They had higher levels of stress. B. They preferred indoor activities.
C. They were less physically active. D. They enhanced mental health.
33. What does the underlined word “alleviate” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Reduce. B. Increase. C. Ignore. D. Create.
34. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By narrating personal experiences. B. By criticizing urban planning policies.
C. By comparing different types of green spaces. D. By presenting research findings and their effects.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Designing Effective Urban Green Spaces B. The Multifaceted Benefits of Urban Green Spaces
C. Green Spaces: A Key to Enhancing Mental Health D. Strategies for Equitable Access to Urban Nature

Paper bags remain an option in grocery stores and are preferred by many consumers for convenience. 3 6The production of paper bags is, however, harmful to the environment in several ways. There are many advantages
and disadvantages of the consumption and production of paper bags.
Ten billion paper bags are used every year in the United States alone. 37 . Many consumers prefer paper bags
because they hold more than plastic bags and are stronger, but stores mostly prefer to give out plastic bags because they
are cheaper.
Paper bags are mostly made from original wood pulp (木浆) because recycled pulp is not strong enough, so
their production begins with cutting down trees. 3 8 . For one thing, cutting down trees reduces the absorption of
greenhouse gases, and the production of paper bags requires the use of poisonous chemicals that contribute to air and
water pollution. For another, the transportation of paper bags requires the consumption of fossil fuel that causes further
air pollution.
3 9 . The production of paper bags also creates 50 times more water pollutants than the production of plastic
bags and 70 percent more air pollutants. Additionally, it requires more energy to recycle paper bags than plastic bags.
However, the recycling and reusing rate for paper bags is higher. 4 0
A. It takes 14 million trees to meet this demand.
B. They can be reused for groceries several times.
C. Paper bags and plastic bags have their own strengths.
D. Their production harms the environment in two ways.
E. But experts advise using plastic bags instead of paper bags.
F. Some people consider them less damaging to the environment.
G. Paper bags' production requires four times the energy of plastic bags.

第二节(满分25分) (unit8 lesson2 话题)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a hot September afternoon, Peter and his friend Isabel were on their way to the library. When they passed by
Tubman park, Isabel suggested cutting through it to get to the library. As they entered the park, the sight of the swings
(秋千) and the merry-go-round brought back a flood of memories of their childhood spent there. But now everything
looked so old, sad, and dirty. Litter lay on the ground next to an overflowing trash bin. There were still young
schoolchildren playing there but they had to avoid the trash that littered the playground. A little boy told them that the
city took the other trash cans away and the remaining one never got emptied often.
As they headed toward the library, the two high school students wrinkled their forehead. In the library, they
encountered Mrs. Evans, their kind-hearted fifth-grade teacher, retired yet still passionate. Mrs. Evans listened as Isabel
and Peter eagerly explained what they'd seen. Finally, she recommended them to go to the City Hall to voice their
concerns.
The next day, Isabel and Peter went into the building of the City Hall but were met with an impatient officer. They
were informed that the city couldn't help with their problem due to a tight budget. Discouraged, they left and turned to
Mrs. Evans for help.
Under her guidance, they decided to ask Go Green, a non-profit organization whose goal is to protect the
environment, for help. “This group is good at raising money for projects just like yours,” said Mrs. Evans. She promised
to arrange them to present their ideas to Go Green. Hearing this, their face lit up.
Two main tasks remained ahead: researching ways to clean up the park and preparing a convincing presentation.
As Isabel was good at researching while Peter always had a talent for speaking, they cooperated quite well. Isabel
learned from a science magazine that a new type of trash bin can squeeze the trash down without being emptied often,
which saves time, money, and energy. Based on this, Peter practiced his presentation over and over again.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
In my opinion, Bicycle-sharing is a double-edged sword that demands our immediate action
Bicycle-sharing systems, exemplified(是……的典范) by Mobike and Ofo, benefited urban public
transportation in China by offering affordable, environmental-friendly transportation that reduces traffic jams and carbon,
contributing to better urban air quality and citizens' health. However, the issue of bicycle damage is concerning. Rampant
vandalism(肆意破坏公物)— including QR code destruction and random parking or illegal parking — poses a
severe threat to their sustainability. Such acts not only reflect public apathy (公众的冷漠) but also undermine(削
弱) the systems’operational efficiency and urban aesthetics. Therefore, it is crucial to raise public awareness about
the importance of maintaining shared bikes. Implementing stricter penalties for those who damage bikes or misuse them
can also be effective. Additionally, improving bike-sharing technology, such as better locking systems and QR code
scanning, can deter(防止) vandalism.
In summary, while shared bikes offer numerous advantages, addressing the problem of bicycle damage is essential
for their sustainable use.
第二节
One possible version:
A week later, Peter stood nervously at the back of the hall where Go Green was meeting. Finally, it was time for
him to do the presentation. Standing in front of several experts from Go Green, Peter was nervous in fear of screwing
things up. But unbelievably, when he began to speak, everything went so smoothly. His voice was clear and influential,
and his speech was logical and well-organized. Peter ended his presentation with a deep bow and went out to wait for
Go Green's decision.
After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news. Their ideas were approved and Go Green agreed to
provide the money they needed to purchase the trash bin. Peter smiled. It meant not only their efforts paid off, but also
Tubman park would restore its cleanness and tidiness. Peter and Isabel decided to tell Mrs. Evans this good news first
and then worked out the next step they needed to take.

W: Please listen to me because I want to tell you about the next class trip. We're going to a castle. We read about this
one in Tet bury last week in our history lesson. Tell your parents they need to pay for the trip this week. It's five pounds.
That's three pounds for the ticket and the rest is for transport.
This trip is on a Saturday. We don't want you to miss a school day, like a Friday. We're going by bus. Please get to school
by 8:40 at the latest because the bus will go at 9:10 exactly. You don't need to bring paper or a pen, but you'll need a
camera. If you haven't got one, you can share with a friend. While we're there, we're going to see a special exhibition.
The one about cars has just finished, and now there's one about clothes that's called Mo dana. That's M-O-D-A-N-A. It's
very interesting to see what people wore hundreds of years ago.
Now, any questions…
