Big fast-food chains in New York City have started to obey a first-of-its-kind rule requiring
themtopost caloriecountsright onthemenu.

The new rules were introduced as part of an anti-obesity campaign that also includes a
recentcitywide banonartificialtrans-fatsinrestaurant food.

The menu rule only applies to restaurants that serve standardized portion sizes and have 15
ormorelocationsnationwide.

Starting last Saturday, chains big enough to fall under the rule will face penalties of up to
2000 dollars for not showing calorie information in a prominent spot on their menus,
preferablynext totheprice.
