The 39-year-old Wu Qi is called “Uncle Dog” by many autistic（自闭的）children. As an animal behaviour
expert（行为专家）, he set up China’s first animal-assisted therapy（AAT动物辅助治疗）program using dogs
to help children in need.
Wu Qi was very shy when he was a little boy. He spent most of his time in his room alone. His life changed
after he found a little dog. “The dog was my best friend. It made me whom I am today.” he said.
After finishing college in 2003, he started to learn how to care for animals. To make his dog-training skills
better, he visited people who were good at animal care in many places in the world. He learned the meanings of

I miss the time when I competed in my first model airplane competition. On a hot day in May, I walked into
Nanyuan Middle School. My hands were shaking. I heard that other competitors were all experienced. Some of

I was on duty at the school gate one day. It was very hot and dry. A student came to sit beside me with her arm
covered, her face was pale, threw down her mobile phone and asked me to help her call 120. I found that her left

Do you love cooking, gardening or cleaning around the house? Doing housework will boost (增强) your
brainpower, according to new study made by an Australian university.
The study shows that older children are more likely to do housework than younger ones and girls do more
housework than boys. For example, only 49% of boys but 70% of girls make their own bed. Doing the dishes is a
job for 55% of children, including 50% of boys and 61% of girls. Only 34% of five to seven-year-olds do this task,
and 64% of those aged 11 to 13 do it.
“Children who cook a family meal or care for plants in the garden regularly may do better in other aspects (方
面) of life-like schoolwork or problem solving,” said Deanna Tepper, the lead researcher.
Ms. Tepper said making a meal or cooking for others was connected to a better memory and the ability to think
before acting. “These skills usually begin to develop in early childhood and continue in late adolescence (青春期)
and early adulthood,” she said.
