(江苏省盐城市景山中学2021-2022学年九年级上学期期中英语试题)Is there a
connection between music and language? According to recent studies, the answer is yes:
music improves certain language abilities in the brain. Here, we look at two examples.
Music and Hearing
A recent study by researcher Nina Kraus shows that playing a musical instrument can
improve a person’s hearing ability. As a part of the study, two groups of people listened to a
person talking in a noisy room. The people in the first group were musicians, while those in
the second group had no musical training. The musicians were able to hear the talking person
more clearly.
Musicians hear better, says Kraus, because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds.
Think about violinists in an orchestra When the violinists play with the group,
they hear their own instrument (乐器) and many others, too. But the violinists must listen
closely to what they are playing, and ignore the other sounds. In this way, musicians are able
to concentrate on (集中注意力于) certain sounds, even in a room with lots of noise.
Music and Speaking
Gottfried Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with patients who have
stroke (中风). Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or
other information. However, they can still sing. Dr. Schlaug was surprised to find that singing
words helped his patients to finally speak. Why does this work? Schlaug isn’t sure. Music
seems to activate (激活) different parts of the brain, including the damaged parts. This
somehow helps patients to use that part of the brain again.
Understanding the Results
Music improves concentration, memory, listening skills, and our overall language
abilities. It can even help sick people get better. Playing an instrument or singing, says Nina

If you visit some villages in the English countryside, you might be lucky to see Morris
dancing. People are not sure how old this kind of dancing is. Some think it started 2,000 years
ago, but most agree that Morris dancing is probably about five centuries old.
Many agree that it celebrates traditional English farm life on holidays. Morris dancers
wear traditional clothes. Usually this is a white shirt, a bright jacket, a hat and small bells
called “jingle bells”. There are different styles of Morris dancing from different places around
England.
In Cotswold Morris, the dancers usually carry white handkerchiefs(手绢)and sticks,
which they hit as they dance. Each dance has six men dancers in Cotswold style, with a
musician who plays a pipe(管乐器)or a violin.
Morris dancing styles from the north of England often use swords(剑) instead of sticks
and dancers can look a little like soldiers, which is different from southern styles. It is
common in this style for men and women to dance together. Border Morris comes from the
west of England, near the border with Wales. Dancers in this style usually wear normal
clothes with pieces of colorful paper, and sometimes they put black paint on their faces.
Morris dancing is an old English tradition but it's facing a big crisis(危机).As the years
go by, fewer and fewer young people join Morris dancing groups. To pass down the tradition,
the government calls for more young people to do something to change the situation.

词that或which,故选C。
2.B
A. who指代人;B.
构"prefer to do sth."
形,"would rather do sth."
4.B
句意:我讨厌住在隔壁的狗,他们整晚发出噪音。who "谁"指人,在定语从句中作主语;
what不引导
定语从句,可排除B。who用于先行词是人时;that用于先行词是人或物时,可省略;

“the first thing ____ he did was”可知先行词是被the first 序数词修饰,所以关系词应该用

if如果;unless除非,如果不;when当……
据句意可知,空前“It was great”与空后“we had a terrible time”是转折关系,这里应用
9.B
