A pWPS is the first draft blueprint of a welding procedure. Prepared by a manufacturer or welding engineer, it outlines the proposed welding parameters—such as material type, joint design, process (TIG, MIG, etc.), filler metals, preheat, and post-weld heat treatment.

pWPS 是焊接工艺的首份草案蓝图。由制造商或焊接工程师编制，它概述了拟定的焊接参数——例如材料类型、接头设计、焊接工艺（TIG、MIG等）、填充金属、预热和后热处理。

But this document isn’t just theory—it sets the foundation for real-world testing and qualification.

🔹 The Process: From pWPS to WPS

1️⃣ Drafting the pWPS – Essential variables are defined according to project needs and codes like ASME Section IX or BS EN ISO 15614.

1️⃣ 起草 pWPS – 根据项目需求和 ASME 第 IX 卷或 BS EN ISO 15614 等规范定义重要变素。

2️⃣ Welding the Test Coupon – A welder follows the pWPS to produce a test weld, which undergoes non-destructive (X-ray, UT) and destructive (tensile, bend, impact) testing.

2️⃣ 焊接试件 – 焊工按照 pWPS 进行试件焊接，然后试件需经过无损检测（X射线、超声）和破坏性检测（拉伸、弯曲、冲击）。

3️⃣ Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) – Also called WPAR, this records the actual welding parameters and test results. Approval validates the procedure.

3️⃣ 工艺评定记录 (PQR) – 也称为 WPAR，记录实际的焊接参数和检测结果。批准后即证明该工艺有效。

4️⃣ Final WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) – Using the approved PQR, detailed WPS documents are issued for production welders. Any major change in essential variables requires requalification.

If the first test fails, the pWPS is revised, making this process iterative until a sound, compliant procedure is achieved.
