The Future of Clean Energy in Homes
[2026浙江Z20名校联盟第一次联考]Heating, cooling, and powering homes contribute significantly to global CO2emissions. As nations strive to reduce their carbon footprints, residential energy use — responsible for nearly 20% of energy-related emissions — poses unique challenges. Below is the 2022 breakdown of household emissions by source.
ELECTRICITY52%
HEATING28%
COOLING12%
APPLIANCES6%
LIGHTING2%
Clean energy solutions for homes must be affordable, efficient, and adaptable to diverse climates. While technologies vary, here are key innovations driving the shift toward sustainability.
HEAT PUMPS — Efficient Heating/Cooling
Replacing gas boilers, electric heat pumps transfer warmth from air or ground, cutting heating emissions by 50%. Hybrid models, hopefully, might be able to work in sub-zero temperatures in the near future.
SMART GRIDS(电网) — Dynamic Electricity Management
AI-powered grids optimize energy use, storing surplus solar power during peak hours and reducing reliance on fossil-fuel backups.
SOLAR PANELS — Rooftop Revolution
Solar energy is the most accessible renewablesource for households. Advances in photovoltaic cells have cut costs by 80% since 2010, making them viable in numerous regions.
WIND TURBINES — Community Microgrids
Small-scale turbines (涡轮机) in windy areas can power neighborhoods, though land use debates persist.
“The scale of this transition is staggering,” says Dr. Elena Torres, a climate scientist at MIT. “Residential renewables like solar and heat pumps could meet 90% of global household demand by 2050 — but only if investments triple within this decade.” Recent studies show that every $1 invested in green homes today saves $5 in future climate adaptation costs. This isn’t just an environmental imperative; it’s economically inevitable.
21. Which two categories combined account for over three-quarters of total household emissions?
A. Electricity and Heating.B. Heating and Cooling.
C. Appliances and Lighting.D. Cooling and Appliances.
22. Which technology is highlighted as cost-effective for diverse climates?
A. Heat pumps.B. Smart grids.C. Solar panels.D. Wind turbines.
23. What does Dr. Torres emphasize about the energy transition?
A. The dominance of gas boilers.B. The increase in solar efficiency.
C. The need for higher investment.D. The breakthrough in heat pump technology.

说明文 | 人与自然之环境危机 | water-level drop,evaporation | 环保意识 | ★★★ | 341 | 7 mins | /4 |
[2026湖北省腾云联盟考] The Caspian Sea, the world’s largest inland water body, is declining, according to a new study published in Communications Earth & Environment. The study reports the water sources that typically feed the sea are contributing less and less water. So much so that these sources cannot keep up with evaporation (蒸发). If global temperatures rise by 2°C, the sea's water levels could drop by 16-32 feet, which means 4 out of 10 ecosystem types unique to the Caspian Sea would disappear completely.
The Caspian Sea is home to a variety of life. Six sturgeon (鲟鱼) species live within the sea. In the Caspian Sea, sturgeon typically reside in shallower waters during the summer and fall and lay eggs in the rivers that flow into the sea. A drop in water levels would prevent them from accessing these grounds, which could lead to population decline. The sea is also a hot spot for some seabirds. They usually take shelter in the coastal wetlands, but it's possible those could dry up as well.
The Caspian Sea touches five countries-Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan-and a drop in water levels could seriously impact trade routes vital to the economies of these countries, as low water levels could prevent ships from docking(入港).Besides, the exposed dry seabed is likely to release dust containing industrial pollutants and salt, posing serious threats to human health. A dropping water level could also alter the climate of the region, thus impacting the area's agriculture.
But all hope is not lost. “Some Caspian Sea level decline appears unavoidable,” Simo Goodman from the University of Leeds said in a press release. “However, with the anticipated effects unfolding over a few decades, it should be possible to find ways to protect biodiversity while safeguarding human interests and wellbeing. That might sound like a long timescale, but, given the immense political, legal and practical challenges involved, it is advisable to start action as soon as possible to give the best chance of success.”
24. What is a fundamental driver for the Caspian Sea’s water crisis?
A. Reduced inflow of feeder rivers.B. Industrial pollution of coastal plants.
C. Increased evaporation of the Caspian Sea.D. Sudden disappearance of the ecosystems.
25. Why are sturgeon populations threatened by the decline of water levels?
A. Seabirds compete for their food.B. They lose access to coastal wetlands.
C. They can’t reach rivers to reproduce.D. The shallower summer habitats dry up.
26.What could be a likely consequence of the drying process?
A. Establishment of trade routes.B. Release of seabed pollutants.
C. Expansion of local agriculture.D. Alteration of regional integration.
27. What does Simon Goodman’s suggest to address the problem?
A. Local community relocation.B. Resignation to biodiversity loss.
C. Emphasis on economic interests.D. Urgent cross-border cooperation.

说明文 | 人与社会之电动飞机 | flight, safe, emission | 节能减排 | ★★★ | 368 | 8 mins | /4 |
[2026广东八校第一次联考] The future of human flight arrived quietly, at a time when no one was clocking up air miles. It was June 2020 and the skies were unusually empty, but down on the ground, something huge was happening with a small aircraft. The European Union Aviation (航空) Safety Agency(EASA), certified a two-seat plane made in Slovenia as safe to fly. Within a few years, the plane called Pipistrel Velis Electro was certified in the UK, the US and elsewhere.
“The achievement represents a growing interest and trust in the reliability of electric planes,” says Dr Tine Tomazic, director of engineering and programs at the company Pipistrel. “We recently completed production of our 100th Velis Electro, marking a significant milestone for Pipistrel and the industry.”
“The aviation industry is improving its carbon emissions (排放) by nearly 2% per passenger mile per year,” says Dr Guy Gratton, associate professor of aviation at Granfield University in the UK. However, the global demand for air transport is estimated to double by 2040, which means that while other industries are showing meaningful signs of decarbonizing, aviation is on track to increase its total emissions. “So, we need to prevent aviation becoming a majority polluter,” Gratton says. “Now, how can we do that?”
The Velis Electro is leading the way, but the first electric planes aren’t designed to replace large passenger aircraft. Instead, these pioneer aircraft are designed specifically for flight training, offering just 50 minutes of flight time with 20 minutes reserve and a range of 185 kilometers. It’s powered by a 58kW electric motor with two lightweight lithium batteries.
Traditional batteries are either too heavy or too hot to be practical for an aircraft. Pipistrel’s system, however, makes the whole powertrain safe, light and efficient. The battery weighs 70 kg and the whole aircraft weighs just 425 kg when empty.
Pilots don’t need an additional license to fly Velis Electro, but they’ll notice differences. “The aircraft delivers power without hesitation,” Tomazic explains. “It uses a simplified user interface in a cockpit (驾驶舱) that maintains the same look and feel of its conventionally-powered planes. The cockpit is also much quieter than with conventional aircraft.”
28.What does the underlined part “something huge” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.The small plane got very popular. B. The small plane was being produced.
C.The small plane had improved greatly. D. The small plane received official approval.
29.Why is Dr Guy Gratton mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To show the significance of Velis Electro.B. To tell the development of Velis Electro.
C.To prove the growing demand for air travel.D. To stress the aviation’s contribution to environment.
30.What do we know about the design of Velis Electro?
A.It involves huge batteries. B. It aims to drive large aircraft.
C.It is based on global cooperation. D. It is intended for short flights.
31.How does the author mainly describe the advantages of Pipistrel’s batteries?
A.By giving examples. B. By making comparisons.
C.By presenting detailed figures. D. By showing scientific analyses.

说明文 | 人与自然之塑料污染 | microplastics,detect,pollution | 环保意识 | ★★★ | 355 | 8 mins | /4 |
[2026浙江(G12)名校协作联考] Microplastics have been detected in human brains at far higher concentrations than in other bodily organs — and levels are increasing, having risen 50 percent in eight years.
This is the conclusion of a team of researchers from the University of New Mexico (UNM), who said the findings should trigger alarm. “This really changes the landscape. It makes it so much more personal,” UNM professor Matthew Campen said in a statement. “I have not encountered a single human being who says, ‘There’s a bunch of plastic in my brain and I’m totally cool with that’.”
Microplastic (smaller than 5 millimeters in size) and nanoplastic (under 0.001 millimeters) pollution have become common in the environment and can get into the food we eat. These plastic bits have been found in various bodily organs — including the kidney, liver — although not at such concentrations as now seen in the brain, the team said.
The researchers identified 12 different types of plastic within samples collected from the so-called frontal cortex(前额叶) — the brain region found above and behind the eyes that had been linked to various capabilities from abstract thinking through to motor function. “We start thinking that maybe these plastics block blood flow in small blood tube,” Campen said. “There’s the potential that these nanomaterials interfere with the connections between axons (轴突) in the brain. They could also be a seed for grouping of proteins involved in dementia(痴呆). We just don’t know.”
Campen said most of the microplastics that end up in our bodies arrive there via food—meat in particular, as commercial meat production concentrates plastics across the food chain. “The way we irrigate fields with water containing plastic, we assume that the plastic builds up there,” he said. “We feed those crops to our farm animals. We take the animal waste and put it back on the field.”
Microplastic and nanoplastic pollution in the environment is certain to grow, the researchers warn — for even if we were to cease plastic production tomorrow, existing plastic would still be around to break down into tiny and then super tiny pieces.
32. Why does the author cite Professor Matthew Campen’s words in paragraph 2?
A. To emphasize the plastics impacts on individuals.
B. To explain the source of plastics in human organs.
C. To trigger a quick response from different researchers.
D. To advocate for reduction measures in plastic production.
33. What might nanoplastics in the brain lead to?
A. Continuous brain aging.B. Immediate memory loss.
C. Disturbed neural bonds.D. Complete blood tube blockage,
34. What can be inferred about commercial meat production?
A. It relies on polluted irrigation.B. It removes plastics completely.
C. It reduces the waste of crops.D. It accumulates plastics in food chain.
35. What does the last paragraph’s warning imply?
A. Nanoplastics is less harmful.B. Anti-pollution efforts are effective,
C. Existing plastics still pose a threat.D. Stopping production solves pollution.
四、根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Keep Skin Cancer At Bay
[2026浙江诸暨一模] “You have skin cancer.” No one wants to hear such scary words. And unfortunately, the number of those who hear them just keeps rising. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates global cancer rates will increase 77 percent by 2050.36By adopting a few healthy habits and making smart choices, people can reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.
One of the most important ways is to limit your exposure to UV rays from the sun. UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so it’s best to stay indoors or in the shade during these hours. If you have to be in the sun, wear protective clothing. 37These measures can shelter you from harmful radiation and prevent sunburn, which is a major risk factor for skin cancer.
38Choose a type with a sun protection factor of at least 30. It should protect against both kinds of UV rays that cause damage to your skin. Apply it to all exposed skin, including your face, neck, ears and hands, even on cloudy days. Put it on every two hours or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.
Regular skin checks are also key in the prevention of skin cancer. It is vital to examine your skin once a month for spots, moles(痣)or growths. Be on the lookout for changes in size, shape or color. Watch for moles that have one side that is different from the other. 39If a mole is bigger than a pencil eraser or its appearance is changing, consult a skin doctor immediately.
Healthy skin is beautiful.40
A. Look at the size, too.
B. Beauty is only skin deep.
C. Sunglasses that block UV rays are also a must.
D. Protecting it is one of the best things you can do.
E. You are bound to be free from any skin problems mentioned.
F. Using sunscreen is another important way to protect your skin.
G. But the good news is that it’s also one of the easiest to prevent.

[2026武汉九师联盟12月考] One spring morning, my family and I decided to downsize our home. We’d lived in this cozy house for over two decades, and now it was time to 41 our beloved space. As we began 42 the rooms, memories flooded back — every corner held a story.
We sorted items into three piles: keep, donate, and43. The “sell” pile included a vintage clock, a hand-knitted blanket, and an old camera. I took photos of these items and posted them online, hoping to 44 them to people who’d appreciate them.
Days passed, and responses poured in. A woman messaged about the clock, asking for more45 — its age, condition, and whether it still worked. Another caller wanted to know if the blanket could be 46 as a gift. As our moving day 47, I felt a mix of sadness and relief.
Then came a48 that touched my heart: “I lost my grandma’s clock last year. Your clock reminds me of her. Can I have it?” I agreed immediately. When she came to pick it up, her eyes 49 up as she held the clock. “Thank you,” she whispered, “this means so much.”
50 by this experience, I started giving away more items for free. An elderly man took the old camera, sharing how he’d loved photography in his youth. Each exchange brought a sense of 51 — these things weren’t just objects; they were pieces of someone’s past, now part of a new story.
Now, in our new apartment, the space feels52 but meaningful. I take 53 in knowing that somewhere, the clock is keeping time for a new family, the blanket is warming someone’s lap, and the camera is capturing new memories.
The process of letting go taught me that54 isn’t about losing the past, but about 55 it forward — allowing stories to continue in new hands.

八、读后续写。
[2026广东茂名市一模] As the sun was sinking in the west, painting the sky in colors of orange and pink, a group of young environmental enthusiasts gathered in the heart of the campus. These passionate individuals, part of the Green Earth Society, had been tirelessly planning an eco-friendly fair to raise awareness about sustainability in their community.
The event was just around the corner when they received unexpected news — a competitive group, the Nature Conservation Club whose leader was John, was hosting a similar event on the same day in a nearby park. Concern arose among the Green Earth Society members as they realized this could split the attendees and reduce the impact of both initiatives.
“We can’t change the date now,” expressed Sarah, a dedicated member known for her creative solutions. “But we can’t let our causes suffer either.” Mary, a thoughtful soul in the group, weighed silently, recognizing the importance of unity in such situations. Driven by her determination to make a difference, Mary tried hard to find a solution. She spent hours researching ways to cooperate with the Nature Conservation Club, understanding that together they could achieve far more than apart.
The following day, Mary presented her proposal to the Green Earth Society. “What if we combine our events?” she suggested. “By combining our efforts, we can increase our messages, attract more participants, and ensure both environmental causes receive the support they deserve.” The members exchanged uncertain looks, unsure of how the opponent club would respond. “It’s a challenging move, Mary, but how will we convince them?” questioned Mark, a doubtful member. Mary, with a firm resolve, replied, “I’ll speak with their leader and illustrate the advantages of a cooperative event.” Despite the challenges that lay ahead, Mary’s belief in the power of cooperation never changed. She was determined to bridge the gap, unite the two groups, and create a stronger front for environmental advocacy in their community.
