College visits are important. Before you commit years of your life and money to a school, be sure you’re
choosing a place that is a good match for your personality and interests. You can’t get the “feel” of a school from
any guidebook, so be sure to visit the campus. Below are a few tips for getting the most out of your college visit.
Explore on Your Own
Of course you should take the official campus tour, but be sure to allow time to hang around on your own. The
trained tour guides will show you a school’s selling points. But the oldest and prettiest buildings don’t give you the
entire picture of a college. Try to walk the extra mile and get the complete picture of the campus.
Read the Bullet in Boards
When you visit the student center, academic buildings and residence halls, take a few minutes to read the
bulletin boards. They provide an easy way to see what’s happening on campus. The ads for lectures, clubs and plays
can tell you what’s going on outside the classrooms.
Eat in the Dining Hall
You can get a good feel for student life by eating in the dining hall. Try to sit with students if you can. Do the
students seem happy or stressed? Also, is the food good? Are there enough healthy options? Many admission
offices will give prospective students coupons (优惠券) for free meals in the dining halls.
学学科科网网((北北京京))股股份份有有限限公公司司Visit a Class in Your Major

your field and see how involved they arc in classroom discussion. Try to stay after class for a few minutes and chat
with the students to get their impressions of their professors and major. Be sure to call in advance to schedule a
classroom visit-most colleges don’t allow visitors to drop in at class unannounced.
Talk to Lots of Students
Your campus tour guide has been trained to market the school. Try to talk to students who aren’t getting paid
to impress you. These important conversations can often provide you with information about college life that isn’t
part of the admission script. Few university officials will tell you if their students spend all weekend drinking or
studying, but a group of random students might.
36. What is the best way to know about a college in an official campus tour?

It was the final part of the 2016 World Triathlon Series in Mexico. With jus700 meters to go, Alistair Brownlee

the burning heat, but as he came round the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the track Alistair had to

caught him and started pulling him towards the finish line. Alistair then pushed his brother over the line. The move
put Jonny in second place and Alistair himself in third. It was an unexpected end to the race, but Alistair did not
want to discuss it with the media. He just wanted to see his younger brother who had been rushed to the medical
area.
The Brownlee brothers have been doing triathlons since they were children “Obviously, when your older
brother is doing it, you think it’s a cool thing to do,’says Jonny. Alistair says that they encourage each other as

B. Because he was overtaken by another athlete.
C. Because he stopped to give his brother a hand.
D. Because he struggled with the burning heat.
42. What can be learnt from Paragraph 2?

B. Alistair was only worried about his brother’s health condition.
C. The end result led to an unexpected discussion among the audience.
D. The media tried to prevent Alistair from going to the medical area.
43. What does Jonny regard his brother as?
A. An inspiration. B. An authority.
C. A burden. D. A follower.
44. How do people respond to Alistair’s behavior?
A. Unfavorably. B. Supportively.
C. Uninterestedly. D. Differently.
45. What message is conveyed in this passage?
A. Love and competition between the Brownlee brothers make them successful athletes.
B. For Alistair Brownlee, family love is more important than winning the triathlon final.

Prior’s Court is a school in Berkshire, southern England. The school is for children with autism(自闭症). It
cares for around 95 children with more severe signs of autism. Some cannot speak or communicate their needs.
The school is now finding a new use for virtual reality, or VR headsets. Virtual reality is a technology that lets
you step inside a computer-created 3D world. You can explore and sometimes even manipulate(操纵) objects in
that world. People with autism may find it hard to deal with places and situations they have not experienced before.
VR headsets make the wearer feel they are in a different place. For example, someone wearing a VR headset can
have a 360-degree view of a place as they turn around. With video, they can even hear the sounds of the place.
Teachers at Prior’s Court decide to use VR to introduce children to situations like visiting a shopping mall, getting
on a plane or skiing.
Nuno Guerreiro is a computing teacher at Prior’s Court School. He said, “Our children have difficulties with
sensory(感觉的)issues so they dread going to very busy places. They like what they are familiar with; they like
their routine. ” The school officials hope the VR experiences will help children feel better about changes from their
routine.
Susan Green is the mother of an eight-year-old boy with autism under the care of Prior’s Court. She
said,“My son spends most of his time indoors. But I do want him to know more about the world and experience
new places. I hope this product will bring something different to his life.”

Have you ever dreamt of being among the people talked about on a celebrity blog? Well 140 junior high and
high school students from Edmonton, Alberta don’t have to dream any longer. An inter-school project they worked
on was so successful that Perez Hilton blogged about it, which is surprising since his blog is usually for celebrities.
They did a flash mob (快闪) in a shopping center with the main message being “stand up to bullying”.
Over 140 students, aged from 12 to 17, participated in the anti-bullying flash mob, dancing to a well-known
song called “Loser Like Me” “We actually had almost too many; we had to cut back on the number at each school,”
said Kristina Solikowski, one organizer of the event.
“I was just really excited!” said Olivia Brassard, a grade seven student at RS Fowler School. Being one of the
younger student dancers, Olivia couldn’t get over her nerves at the start. “I was a little shy because I had to interact
with a lot of grade eights and nines, but after, I got more comfortable,” said Olivia.
The reason why Olivia got involved was partly for the fun of dancing but also because she really believed in
the message that bullies are bad! “I thought it would be a good way to spread the word about the bullying that goes
on in our society,” said Olivia.
Olivia’s friend Allison Wood, a grade eight student at St. Albert Catholic High School, got involved for the
same reason as Olivia. “I don t think it’s going to be possible to stop bullying all together, but I think we can
certainly decrease it,” explains Allison.
These students have set a good example for kids everywhere. There’s no better way to decrease something bad
than by getting people together to do something good, right?
51. Why did Perez Hilton blog about the flash mob in Edmonton?
A. The event achieved great success.
B. He has a deep interest in flash mobs.
C. There were many famous people taking part.
D. He wanted to realize the students’ dream of becoming famous.
52. What did the students do at the flash mob?
A. They sang the song “Loser Like Me”.
B. They shouted out “stand up to bullying”.
C. They danced to the song “Loser Like Me”.
学学科科网网((北北京京))股股份份有有限限公公司司D. They gave out posters saying “stand up to bullying”.
53. How did Olivia feel at the beginning of the flash mob?
A. Comfortable. B. Helpless. C. Nervous. D. Excited.
54. What does the underlined part “got involved” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Agreed with. B. Took part. C. Liked. D. Developed.
55. What is the main purpose of this text?
A. To report a flash mob. B. To introduce flash mobs.
C. To list the harm of bullying. D. To encourage readers to fight bullying.

学学科科网网((北北京京))股股份份有有限限公公司司61. Dear Tom,
Here comes a piece of good news. Chinese Winter Camp, which is intended for international students, is going
to be held in our school this winter vacation. Since you are obsessed with Chinese culture, I'd like to invite you to
join it.
The Camp is scheduled to last 11 days, from December 18 to December 28. It covers a wide variety of
cultural activities, ranging from studying Chinese daily expressions to attending some lectures on Chinese history
and traditional culture. As we all know, language is closely related to culture, so I'm convinced that you can dig out
Chinese cultural features from language study. In addition, the Camp provides a chance for you to visit some
famous museums, which is the best way to learn about the country. By admiring the historical relics, you will
definitely gain a better understanding of the country.
If you want to be part of it, please sign up for it before December 2nd at our school website. Looking forward
to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
