Julie had always wanted a bicycle, but her grandfather wanted her to save up for it herself. So he bought Julie a
piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach
in and get the money out. The only way to get the money was to break the piggy bank open. Her grandfather explained
that was the whole idea: the piggy bank would help save her money so that, at the end of the year, she might have
enough for that bike she dreamt about.
For some time, this worked fine. Julie loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it
became heavier, she grew more excited, dreaming about buying her new bike, and all the adventures she could have
on it.
Julie thought she wouldn't break the piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened.

The first spacecraft to visit China’s Tiangong space station in 2024—the Tianzhou 7 robotic cargo (货船) ship
—is scheduled to launch in the coming days, according to the China Manned Space Agency.
Tianzhou 7 will become the 12th spaceship to visit the Chinese space station. Pang Zhihao, an expert on space
exploration technology who worked at the China Academy of Space Technology for decades, said that the Tianzhou
7 is expected to transport living necessities and work materials to the Tiangong to support the Shenzhou XVⅡ and
XVⅢ mission crews (成员).
“Starting from the Tianzhou 6, our cargo vessels now have more inner space and thus can contain more things
for the crew, so launching three cargo ships is enough to support a two- year stay in orbit for astronauts, ”he said.
“Our Tianzhou series has been well developed and improved, and can be fully relied upon. ”
The Long March 7 rocket to lift the Tianzhou 7 was transported to the Wenchang centre in late December and
第5页/共15页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司then underwent prelaunch checks with the cargo ship. The Long March 7 model is a rocket developed by the China
Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology. The rocket has a height of 53.1 metres, a core-stage diameter of 3.35
metres, and a liftoff weight of 597 metric tons. With six 120-ton-thrust engines, the launch vehicle can send 13.5
tons of things to a low-Earth orbit or 5.5 tons to a sun-synchronous (太阳同步的) orbit.
On the afternoon of January 12, the Tianzhou 6 cargo craft moved out of the Tiangong space station and
started a period of solo flight. The space agency said the Tianzhou 6 will fall back to Earth soon, and most of the
spaceship will burn up during reentry, and a small amount of debris (碎片) is expected to fall into secure areas in
the South Pacific Ocean.
28. How many spaceships have visited the Chinese space station before Tianzhou 7?
A. 6. B. 7. C. 11. D. 12.
29. What does Pang Zhihao think of Tianzhou series?
A. Advanced and dependable. B. Big and creative.
C. Developed and light. D. Useful and fast.
30. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The importance of the Wenchang centre. B. The information about the low-Earth orbit.
C. An introduction to the Long March 7 rocket. D. The preparation before the space exploration.
31. What do we know from the last paragraph?
A. The Tianzhou 6 will stay in the space forever.
B. The Tianzhou 6 left the Earth on January 12.
C. All spaceships will completely burn up during reentry.
D. Some parts of the Tianzhou 6 will drop into the sea.

When scientists want to measure new forest growth, they can study large areas of land with tools like satellites
and lidar (雷达). But understanding how fast and in what amount wildlife is returning to an area is more difficult.
Sometimes it requires an expert to listen through sound recordings and pick out animal calls.
Jorg Muller, a field expert on birds in Germany, wondered if there was a different way. So, he turned to
bioacoustics, which uses sound to learn more about animal life and the environments in which they live. The tool
has been used by scientists for some time. But more recently, researchers are using it with computer learning to
study large amounts of data more quickly.
Muller and his team recorded wildlife sounds at sites in Ecuador’s Choco area. The environments they
recorded included areas that were once used for agriculture and raising livestock (牲畜) to old-growth forests.
They first had experts listen to the recordings and make a list of the sounds of different animals. Then, they
第6页/共15页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司examine the sound quality to measure the environment. Finally, they ran two weeks of recordings through an AI
computer programme trained to understand 75 different bird calls.
The programme was able to pick out the calls on which it was trained. However, scientists wondered if the
programme could correctly recognise the number of different kinds of plants and animals in each environment.
To see if the programme could do that, the team used two different controls. One was from the experts who
listened to the audio recordings, and the second was based on examples from each environment, which can be used
to understand biodiversity (生物多样性).
Since the amount of available sounds used to train is limited, the AI programme could only recognise one-
fourth of the bird calls that experts could. But it was still able to correctly measure biodiversity levels in each
environment, the study said.
The study said the scientists’ results show that the AI programme is a powerful tool to measure the recovery of
animal communities in tropical forests. There are still areas for improvement, including the lack of animal sounds
on which to train AI models. And the method can only capture (捕捉) animals that use sound to communicate.
32. What is the traditional practice for exploring wildlife returning to forests?
A. Using new satellites and lidar. B. Conducting lots of field surveys.
C. Searching wildlife in the forest area. D. Recognising animal sounds in recordings.
33. What did Mueller and his team do?
A. They picked out different kinds of bird sounds. B. They recorded the sounds of wild animals on site.
C. They developed intelligent computer programmes. D. They collected data with the help of computers.
34. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. The study has no further research value.
B. The results of this study are proved perfect.
C. The AI programme performs better than experts.
D. The AI programme still has some problems to be solved.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Biodiversity Protection in the Forests B. Scientists Use AI to Learn About Wildlife
C. A Home for a Wide Variety of Wild Animals D. Application of AI in Environmental Protection
