B At the age of 14, James Harrison had a major chest operation and he required 13 units (3.4 gallons) of blood afterwards. The blood donations saved his life, and he decided that once he turned 18, he would begin donating blood as regularly as he could. More than 60 years and almost 1,200 donations later, Harrison, whose blood contains an antibody (抗体) that has saved the lives of 2.4 million babies from miscarriages (流产), retired as a blood donor on May 11. Harrison’s blood is valuable because he naturally produces Rh-negative blood, which contains Rh-positive antibodies. His blood has been used to create anti-D in Australia since 1967. “Every bottle of anti-D ever made in Australia has James in it,” Robyn Barlow, the Rh program director told the Sydney Morning Herald. “It’s an amazing thing. He has saved millions of babies. I cry just thinking about it.” Since then, Harrison has donated between 500 and 800 milliliters of blood almost every week. “I’d keep going if they let me,” Harrison told the Herald. His doctors said it was time to stop the donations. They had already extended the age limit for blood donations for him, and they’re cutting him off now to protect his health. Harrison’s retirement is a blow to the Rh treatment program in Australia. Only 160 donors support the program, and finding new donors has proven to be difficult. But Harrison’s retirement from giving blood doesn’t mean he’s completely out of the game. Scientists are collecting and cataloging his DNA to create a library of antibodies and white blood cells that could be the future of the anti-D program in Australia 24. Why did James Harrison decide to donate blood as regularly as he could? A. Because he wanted to be a celebrity. B. Because his blood is valuable. C. Because he was once saved by the blood donations. D. Because the Rh treatment program in Australia need him. 25. What can we learn about Robyn Barlow? A. He was sad because millions of babies suffer from blood disease. B. He was worried because Harrison may die of losing too much blood.C. He was deeply moved by Harrison’s donations. D. He was anxious about Harrison’s retirement as a donor. 26. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Harrison’s influence to the Rh program will still exist after his retirement. B. After Harrison’s retirement, the Rh program will fail. C. Harrison’s retirement will not affect the Rh program. D. A library has been built for the study of Harrison’s DNA. 27. Which word can best describe Harrison? A. Patient. B. Diligent. C. Talented D. Devoted. C Uninvited opinions about someone’s marriage, their constant failures or whatever just happened in the bathroom are all clues that you’ve got an Oversharer on your hands. Whether they’re telling tool much or asking for details you’re not comfortable sharing, this all-too common persona has no boundaries. “The discomfort you feel comes from a difference of standards about what topics of conversation are OK,” says Wisner. “What they consider to be acceptable, need-to-know information is different from what it is for you.” At the same awkward time, the Oversharer is only trying to get closer to you by revealing more about themselves —and hoping you’ll do the same. “We tend to label these people as overly-curious, invasive (侵入的) or rude,” notes Gerber, “but they really just want to be liked and accepted.” To satisfy the Oversharer, and meanwhile reject endless TMI (too-much-information), consider sharing something else—still personal but less invasive-that satisfies their urge to connect. When they really cross the line, don’t be shy. Say something that indicates your boundary is being crossed. But you don’t have to declare them to be rude or insist they change their ways immediately. “OMG, that’s private!” says everything, and you’ll never have to bring it up again. A compliment (称赞) also works wonders with an Oversharer, adds Gerber, because it refocuses the conversation in their direction while subtly resetting your boundary. To my nosy friend who asks me when I plan to have a baby, for example, I will give this wise response next time: “You made having kids look so easy! How’d you do it?” Then nod and smile, nod and smile. Maybe I won’t have another baby in this life, but at least I’ll be ready to face an Oversharer—or any of the challenging people it takes to make a world. 28. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. Shaping the image of an Oversharer. B. Stressing the importance of boundaries. C. Identifying the clues of an unpleasant talk. D. Presenting different opinions about sharing. 29. Why are Oversharers so interested in talking about private issues? A. They want sympathy from others. B. They long for closer connections with others. C. They are curious about others’ sufferings D. They see it as a way to break the ice. 30. What is suggested if Oversharers cross your line? A. Ignore their comments. B. Demanding an apology. C. Criticizing their rudeness. D. Declaring your boundaries. 31. What is the purpose of the author’s response in the last paragraph?A. To check her friend’s boundary. B. To show admiration for her friend. C. To shift the topic to her friend’s direction. D. To learn from her friend’s experience. D An artificial intelligence (AI) tool of street view could be used to predict the risk of coronary heart disease—a condition where the heart’s arteries (动脉) are blocked, limiting blood flow to the heart by analysing neighbourhood environments, according to research. A study, published in the European Heart Journal, monitored everyday surroundings, including the quality of roads, buildings, and green spaces, and the role they play in determining heart health. Researchers were able to track the link between these environmental elements, including the presence or absence of pollution, and the risk of coronary heart disease. They found that these neighbourhood characteristics could account for 63% of the differences in heart disease risk from one community to another. The discovery comes from analysing more than half a million Al street view images across Us cities, using computer vision to identify and interpret details that might go unnoticed by the human eye. The data provides urban planners and public health officials with information to design healthier living spaces and neighbourhoods. “Undoubtedly, there is a vast amount of social, economic and environmental data set,” said one of the study’s authors, Prof Sanjay Rajagopalan. “However, there still remain significant gaps in our knowledge regarding unique environmental aspects of data that are currently beyond human comprehension. This is where the use of computer vision approaches may enable unique understanding of the physical and built environment.” By employing AI, researchers have been able to examine the details of neighbourhoods’ environment. The study employed computer vision technology, including applications used in medical imaging and autonomous driving, to identify details and then interpret them to make predictions or decisions. “We are getting to a place in human civilization where traditional approaches that have been used are rather limited and the use of AI to enhance human understanding is going to be critically important at solving complex problems,” Prof Rajagopalan said. 32. What is the finding of the study? A. How the heart’s arteries are blocked. B. How people can prevent heart disease C. How Al can reduce heart disease risks. D. How environments affect heart health. 33. What can the finding of the study help to do? A. Promote computer technology. B. Design green neighbourhoods. C. Reduce air and water pollution D. Advertise for an AI company. 34. Why was computer vision used in the study? A. The researchers had no environmental data. B. It had solved some environmental problems. C. People ignored the environment they live in D. It helped people understand the environment. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the Text? A. The medical use of a street view tool B. The development of Al for hospitals C. The insight into healthy neighbourhoods D. The link between the heart and environment 第二节 (共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。As a high school student, you’re likely used to learning through reading textbooks. 36 This lies at the heart of “experiential (由经验得来的) appreciation”, a philosophy that encourages you to engage directly with the world around you. It’s about learning from real-life experiences, and discovering a more profound and engaging way to learn. To practice experiential appreciation, you can start by getting involved in hands-on activities related to your subjects. They will provide a firsthand understanding of the concepts you’re studying making learning active and meaningful. So, try joining a sports team, picking up a paintbrush, or taking part in a local charity event. 37 As you dive deeper, immerse (沉浸) yourself fully in the surroundings and activities. When you’re in nature, don’t just look around. 38 Touching the leaves, feeling the wind and listening to the birds can enrich your learning and make each moment more memorable. 39 After trying something new, ask yourself what you learned and how it made you feel. Write in a journal or discuss it with friends. This self-discovery turns experiences into life lessons and offers a deeper understanding of the world. Experiential appreciation transforms learning from a task to be completed into a journey to be treasured. 40 So, explore the world around you, let every experience shape you, and discover the endless possibilities that await. This is the core of true learning, where every moment is a step towards a richer, more enlightened life. A. Now consider expanding your learning from just reading to actively participating. B. Instead, activate your senses for a stronger tie with it. C. These activities bring learning to life. D. Mind the impact of your actions on the environment. E. Textbooks offer a systematic introduction to essential concepts and principles. F. Take your experiences further by reflecting on them. G. He had been suspended many times in previous years because of his anger issues. When he entered my class, I thought the worst. Tyler sat in the back row. Every time I talked to the class, I would ask students questions, calling them by name. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a joke. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry. About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at least have them sit quietly and attentively (专心地). By contrast, Tyler was often loud and sometimes rude. He had been in so much trouble over the years. He expected his teachers to know about his past: about how many times he had been sent to the office or suspended from school. I had found that these sorts of referrals (移交) were not very effective and that students would return from the office behaving worse than before. One day, Tyler was talking over me while I was teaching. I stopped my lesson and said, “Tyler, why don’t you join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I can’t remember what he said other than that he included some impolite words. I sent Tyler straight to the office, and he received a week’s suspension. To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. Tyler’s anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was suspended from school was a wonderful time, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I was fearful of his return. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1 On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.Paragraph 2 A spark of surprise flashed across his face.10 月高三月考参考答案 听力 【1题答案】A 【2题答案】B 【3题答案】C 【4题答案】C 【5题答案】A 【6-7题答案】6. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 参考范文 On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him. At last he came, walking with his hands in his pockets. That image immediately brought back memories of the boy throwing a tantrum in class the other day. Yet Imanaged to restrain my anger this time. These past few days, I had been building a wall between us with blame and punishment, so I thought to myself that maybe I should try another way. “I want to apologize for the quarrel that we had in the middle of class, and I’m really sorry if it hurt your feelings,” I said, finally breaking the ice. A spark of surprise flashed across his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. It was clear that he had never heard an apology from a teacher before. “It is I who should say sorry,” he murmured, with his face burning with shame. “I should have learned to control myself” With a smile, I stepped forward and patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Tyler didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. I had never expected “understanding” could make such a huge difference—it turned one of my worst teaching experiences into perhaps the best one.
