Human-like skin grown in a lab has been successfully given to a burns patient. The artificial tissue(人造组织)
was grown from the man’s own skin cells, which was described as one of the biggest breakthroughs in burns care.
The bioengineered skin aims to replace traditional skin transplants, in which burned, damaged skin is replaced
with normal, healthy skin cut from another part of the patient’s body. This new method could help to better protect

transplanting over and over again. In comparison, the artificial skin takes four weeks to grow into sheets 100 times
the size of the skin taken from the patient. This is the amount of time needed to prepare a burn for treatment.
Associate Professor Heather Cleland said the tissue had the ability to not only treat patients better, but also
save those who would die.
Former patient Kate Sanderson, 49, who had burnt to 60 percent of her body in2011, said she was elated for

Joel Kruisselbrink, an exercise advisor at Lelie Zorggroep, Holland, is a social worker, coach and fitness
advisor of the elderly in nursing homes.
Joel found many seniors would spend their days doing nothing and sleeping away and their bodies became
学科网(北京)股份有限公司weak easily, especially in the changing seasons. Joel realized that he should do something for them to make a
change for better.
“How can I inspire the elderly to start moving?” he asked himself. He tried to share the goods of sports with
them, but with little result. There were many reasons for this. One main reason is that there is little money for
fitness equipment. Another is that it is really boring to do exercises.
Finally, the answer came through his young child, who showed him the joy of playing with everyday materials.
The boy would happily run after a ballon here and there, or climb up and down for a beautiful leaf, or joyfully play
with some sticks. Anyway, these materials are all easy to be found in our daily life. But he noticed that it should be
enjoyable for the players, especially there are more players.
“Play is the key to getting active!” he said.
Joel believed that when movement is made fun and interesting, it no longer feels like exercise.
He also found that group challenges can create chances to develop social skills, build friendships, and support
each other in their physical fitness journeys. “The most beautiful thing is to see the seniors’ smiles!” he said. The
smiles may show a person’s inner part and may do good to one’s whole health.

I’m sorry to hear that you feel so worried and stressed at senior high school that you couldn’t sleep well and
focus on your study. Here are some tips for you.
Firstly, make a schedule for your study and finish the to-do list step by step. Besides, working out more and
listening to music can cut down your stress and tiredness after study and make you more energetic. What’s more,
you’d better live in the moment and stop feeling upset about something new or out of control. Instead, smile as
often as possible and stay positive.
I hope you’ll find my suggestions helpful and get better soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 10
W: Studying for a big exam at school or a presentation at work is important, but don’t forget to get a good night’s
sleep. British scientists reported this week that sleep can improve your memory.
Researchers at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania tested 60 healthy young adults to see how well
they could remember and write down pairs of words. The young adults first learned the word pairs, and then took a
12-hour break before being tested to see how many they had remembered. The study found that the young adults
who were allowed to sleep during the break performed much better and had sharper memories than those who were
kept awake.
The authors believed that when people sleep after learning something new, sleep helps store the information
better in the brain. They said this was a particularly important finding for our society which aims to take the place
of sleep to improve efficiency.
学科网(北京)股份有限公司Taking a drink or something to stay awake can help in the short term, but people really need sleep to
