I was born with perfect hearing. When I was five, I started getting ear infections(感染) but my parents couldn’t
afford the treatment. Over time, my hearing dropped to 20 percent, where it is today.
There was always music on in my house in my childhood. I loved listening to Metallica, and Michael Jackson. My
dad was a DJ, so he played all music. For my 18th birthday, my dad asked me to deejay at the restaurant he owned. I
was hooked. I desired to learn more. I e-mailed DJ Shiftee, a distinguished New York City DJ, when I was 25: “I know
you like a challenge. How about teaching a deaf person to deejay?” He wrote back the next day: “Challenge accepted.”
He tutored me twice a week for two years, helping me develop correct technique. I practiced four hours a day.
Now when I’m performing, muscle memory takes over. When I started, I wouldn’t tell the club managers that I
was deaf. I would just show up, introduce myself, and start playing music. At the end of the night, someone would say,
“Oh, here’s the check.” And I’d say, “What? Oh, I can’t hear.” They were always so astonished. Sometimes I would
bring doctor’s notes because they wouldn’t believe me. It was reassurance that they were giving me opportunities to
perform because I was brilliant, not out of sympathy. Eventually people started calling me “that deaf DJ,” and the name
stuck.
What fascinates me about deejaying is the creativity. I use software that turns the music into lines of color on a
computer screen. I’m visually hearing the music. The next time you go dancing, cover your ears, and you’ll “see” the
music. Music is not all about hearing. I go to elementary schools for the deaf and talk to them about motivation and
believing in themselves. I tell them, “Just chase your dreams. I’m a deaf DJ, so why not?”

A.Hearing loss. B.Father’s influence.

26.What does the underlined “stuck” in Para. 3 probably mean?
A.Became well-known. B.Changed.
C.Became ordinary. D.Faded.
27.Why do “I” love deejaying?
A.It strengthens my confidence. B.It improves my hearing ability.
C.It enhances my physical fitness. D.It wins me reputation and money.

There are well-documented mental health benefits to pet ownership, as much research has shown. Indeed, we
know there are some physical benefits as well, as dog owners tend to have more active lifestyles. Yet when it comes to
conditions like allergies (过敏), we tend to think of pet ownership as exacerbating, not easing them.
Hence, a recent study published in the journal PLOS One might come as a surprise. The study, published
Wednesday, found that children raised with cats and dogs early in life had a 13 to 16 % lower risk of developing all
food allergies than those who did not own pets.
The researchers engaged in a detailed survey, studying 65,000 children. They found that children who were
exposed to dogs either during fetal (胎儿) development, or up to the age of 3 years old were less likely to have nut,
milk and egg allergies.
This wasn’t true for other pets that weren’t cats and dogs. Indeed, the same research found that children exposed
to hamsters(仓鼠) during this same period had an increased risk of nut allergies. Yet children who were exposed to cats
during their early years were likewise less likely to develop specific allergies — namely, allergies to wheat, soybean
and egg.
While the study is not the final word on the issue — the researchers note “further studies using oral food
challenges are required to more accurately assess the incident of food allergies” — it reinforces preexisting research on
the seemingly funny ways that cats influence human development.
In addition to adding to the growing body of scientific literature about pets and human health, the PLOS One
also reinforces earlier research about the role of the environment in developing allergies. The research repeatedly found
that exposure to farmyard dirt, dust and the various fine hairs that fly off animals helps children in their breathing
system development.

A.Worsening. B.Damaging.

A.Kids over 3 will have more food allergies.
B.Hamsters cause the most allergies to children.
C.All pet ownership will not reduce food allergies.
D.Cat owners are less likely to be allergic than dog owners.
30.What is the author’s attitude to the PLOS One study?
A.Satisfied. B.Objective.
C.Doubtful. D.Unconcerned.
31.What is a best title for the text?
A.Benefits of studying allergies B.Pet ownership making kids healthier
C.Researches on different food allergies D.Dogs and cats reducing kids’ allergies

The great success of Finding Dory is being met with mixed feelings by experts. That’s because though the
movie can draw attention to our weak coral reefs (珊瑚礁) that need protection, it may lead to further damage to life at
sea.
After the movie Finding Nemo came out in 2003, the clownfish (小丑鱼) became popular with every kid in
America. As a result, the number of clownfish in the wild greatly dropped. Blue tangs (蓝吊鱼) also became popular
pets because of the movie. Sadly, most blue tangs are caught with the help of cyanide (氰化物).
Cyanide works on the fish, allowing them to be easily caught and sold to pet stores. Cyanide is harmful to
humans. It also harms coral and other life at sea. Even the fish that are caught by using cyanide are harmed. Many end
up dying within months of being brought to the store.
It is not allowed to sell fish that have been caught using cyanide in the US. However, a 2008 study discovered
that up to 90% of the 11 million pet fish brought into the country each year have been caught using this harmful fishing
method. More recently, two researchers Craig Downs and Rene Umberger did a study to test if the fish sold in US pet
stores had been harmed by cyanide. They found that of the 100 fish bought from stores in California, Hawaii,
Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia, over half, including the blue tangs, had cyanide in their body.
To help people make better decisions when looking for fish for their kids, the researchers made a free mobile
app, called Tank Watch— the app helps people to know whether a fish has been caught using illegal fishing methods.
The World- Wildlife Foundation is asking fans of the movie not to “Find” Dory, but to “Protect” the beautiful
fish! This means not rushing out and buying a blue tang after watching the film. As Ellen Degeneres, voice actress for
学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司Dory, says, the movie is not about “Finding” Dory, but about “putting it back to the ocean”.
32.What makes experts worried after the movie Finding Dory came out?
A.That people may not like it.
B.That the clownfish will disappear.
C.That people may rush out to buy a “Dory”
D.That coral reefs may not draw any attention.
33.What do the two studies mentioned in paragraph 4 tell us?
A.It's very hard to catch pet fish at sea.
B.Blue tangs are very popular in the US.
C.Cyanide is not allowed to use in the US.
D.Many pet fish in the US are caught by using cyanide.
34.Tank Watch would most probably be used by people who want to __________.
A.buy a pet fish online
B.catch fish more easily
C.talk about movies with others
D.avoid buying illegally- caught fish
35.What Ellen Degeneres says mainly shows that people should __________.
