参考范文2
Dear Chris,
How is everything going? With the Spring Festival around the corner, the School English Club is going
to hold a special online event — “Spring Festival in the Cloud”. I warmly invite you to join us.
Here are the details about the event. It will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on January 30th. You
can access the activity through the school’s official website.
The celebration will include several engaging activities. We’ll begin with an introduction to the history
and customs of the Spring Festival, followed by wonderful performances such as folk songs and cross-talk
comedy. The highlight will be an interactive online quiz about Chinese culture — both fun and educational!
Given your interest in Chinese traditions, I think you would really enjoy experiencing the festival in this
way. Please let me know if you’re able to join.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 1
W: Hi, Jim. I wonder if it’s possible to reschedule the meeting at 2:00 this afternoon? Something urgent has
come up.
M: How about four o’clock?
W: I am afraid not. Five o’clock?
M: That will be OK.
Text 2
W: You look puzzled. Do you need any help?
M: Yes. I can’t find my blue T-shirt anywhere.
W: Is it on your bed? I saw it when I cleaned your room this morning.
Text 3
M: Excuse me?
W: Yes, sir. What can I do for you?
M: I’ve been sitting here for ten minutes and no one has brought me a menu yet!
Text 4
M: I’d like to sign up for my courses for next term. Is this where I can register?
W: Yes. I’ll need your student ID.
M: Here you are.
Text 5
M: This dress is really nice! I want it for my daughter. How much is it?
W: That one is 150 dollars. If you’d like it, I can offer a 10% discount.
M: OK. I will take it.
Text 6
W: Hey, Gary, please have a seat. So tell me, what seems to be the problem?
M: Thanks, doctor. I’ve got a really bad toothache. I can’t eat anything, and look, my face is all red. And my
throat hurts a bit too.
W: Well, let’s have a look. Open wide. It’s your wisdom teeth. They need to be pulled. But first I’m going to
order an X-ray.
M: Is it painful?
W: No, not at all. Just lie down and relax.
Text 7
3M: May, come here. It’s amazing. Is this the hall of ancient China?
W: Yes. Look at these historical relics here. Splendid! But it is odd.
M: I wonder how old these things are. Thousands of years?
W: One thing is for sure—they all come from a very ancient time.
M: Hey, look at that vase. I’ve seen it on TV.
W: It was made 4,000 years ago. It’s priceless!
M: I’m so glad I came with you on this museum tour.
W: It took me quite a lot of effort to persuade you into coming with me. But it’s worth it.
M: Yes, absolutely. I think I’ll come to the museum more often. It’s like taking a trip back in time.
W: I’m glad you feel that way. There’s so much we can learn from these relics. They tell us stories of people
who lived long before us.
Text 8
W: Are you still playing computer games? You were playing when I went to the office this morning! You have
been playing all day.
M: But look at the scores I have earned. It has broken my previous record.
W: I don’t care. Turn off the computer now. This is serious.
M: Alright. I’m coming.
W: My friends are coming over for the party. But look at this messy house. We need to tidy up now. Here’s a
list of chores we need to get done. I’ll do the dishes and get all the groceries for tonight. You can sweep the
floors. Oh, the furniture also needs to be done.
M: You know what? I have to pick something up at the mall, so why don’t you clean the floors and the furniture?
I’ll go to the supermarket and get all the groceries.
W: Are you sure? You hate driving.
M: Never mind. I will bike there.
W: OK. This is the list of the things you need to get. Can you also pick up a bottle of wine on your way home?
M: I won’t forget this time.
Text 9
M: Jean, I’m heading to London next month.
W: Oh, my home city. How exciting!
M: I was hoping for some advice! I’ve already booked tickets for the Tower of London and the London Eye.
W: A boat trip down the Thames can be more interesting, particularly if you get a good tour guide.
M: Okay! I’ll try it. My air ticket costs enough! Any cheap or free activities you’d recommend?
W: Plenty! I suggest Buckingham Palace, where you can watch the changing of the guard. Plus, Borough
Market is the place to go if you’re hungry. If you want a taste of London’s street culture, then go to the
Southbank Skatepark. It’s near the Thames, so you can visit it right off the boat.
M: Great! I’m interested in street culture.
W: Many of the big museums are free to visit. Personally, I love the National Portrait Gallery.
M: Does it have something special?
W: Each piece there carries specific historical backgrounds, character stories, and cultural meanings. It
provides an important window and rich resources for people to understand British history and culture.
Text 10
W: Have you ever heard of a man named Buckminster Fuller? He was not just a brilliant scientist and inventor,
but also an architect whose ideas ahead of his time still inspire us today. What made Buckminster truly well-
known was his deep concern for human survival. Thus, he claimed that to solve humans’ major problems, we
have to anticipate what will become problems as resources reduce.
He was especially passionate about developing more efficient housing. His goal was to create a new way
of constructing buildings that could provide more livable space while using far fewer materials, energy, and
resources. One solution he came up with in the late 1940s was a structure shaped like a piece of the globe,
which amazed the world and brought him international reputation.
That’s it for today’s Daily Takeaway. Tomorrow we’ll introduce one of the most influential lecturers in
Oxford University, whose ideas have shaped countless minds in academia and beyond.
