Heritages are unique and precious characteristics of a society that are passed down through generations.
Without particular preservation efforts, many of these become lost in time. Africa is a continent with rich cultural
heritage. Traditions like folk tales and dances by the moonlight, poem and other unique activities make up a large
part of cultural heritage in Africa.
Uganda’s Ekyogero traditional herbal (药草) bath is a famous tradition. It is a bath for newborn babies that is
popular in many communities in Uganda. According to the culture, it makes the child strong and physically
healthy. It is a herbal bath that is used to wash the baby and give it smooth skin. It is believed to bring good luck to
the newborn and drive away curses (祸根) . It is also believed that modern medicine does not have answers for
every condition. In fact, a lot of modern medical treatments are based on traditional applications of herbs.
One unique thing about the Wodaabe people of Niger is the Guérewol competition. It is an annual marriage
competition that has young men dancing and singing while dressed up with decorations and painted faces. As they
dance and sing, they pat (轻拍) their eyes and show off their teeth to look more attractive. They intend to have one
of the young girls of marriageable age fall in love with them and their skills.
Among the Maasai people of Kenya and Northern Tanzania spitting is a sign of respect and honor. It is also
seen as a form of positive greeting. If one spits on one’ s hands, which are then used to shake someone’s hand, it
means a friendly greeting. When done on a single person, especially a baby, it means blessings (祝福) . Also, when
a father spits on his daughter on her wedding day, it means wishes and blessings for a beautiful home.
Today, most of the world is returning to its traditional ways or ideas. If countries like China, India, and Japan,
who have long followed their traditional culture are doing well now, then Africa can do so too. It is time forAfricans to get back to their roots by remembering and rebuilding their traditions. By taking part in a return to
traditions, Africans will rebuild their diversity (多样性) of cultural heritage.

If you ask a Chinese friend, especially an elderly one, to recommend a popular form of exercise or workout,
the answer will most likely be Taijiquan, commonly known as Tai Chi Chuan or Tai Chi in English, a special type
of martial arts (Wushu).
Today, there is growing evidence (证据) from around the world showing that this mind-body practice can play
an important role in treating or preventing many health problems and slowing aging.
In Chinese philosophy (哲学), Taiji is the final source and motive force behind all things and phenomena (现
象) in the universe. It also produces the two primary elements of the universe, namely, yin and yang, and the
cultural understanding of the unity of heaven and humanity.
The roots of Taijiquan are also closely connected with traditional Chinese medicine. For instance, traditional
Chinese medicine holds that qi, or life energy, must be able to move freely throughout the body in order to keep
good health and the balance of mind and spirit. And practice of Taijiquan is believed to be one of the best means to
unblock the flow of qi. This element has proved that it can benefit (使受益) people of all ages, particularly for the
elderly.
Studies around the world suggest that Taijiquan has a number of specific health benefits, such as reducing
stress, anxiety; improving mood, increasing energy, and bettering one’s balance and quickness. Other evidence
shows that the exercise may help improve the quality of sleep, lower blood pressure, improve overall well-being,
and reduce risk of falls among the elderly. As a daily practice, it requires no special equipment. In aerobic (有氧的) exercise we’re taught to tense the
muscle and push hard. Tai Chi is the opposite; it’s about the flow of the whole body in the movement. In order to
unite human beings with the natural world, Taijiquan imitates (模仿) motions found in nature, such as movements
of animals. Those movements all have very poetic names like “waving hands like clouds”.
8. What’s the purpose of practicing Tai Chi according to the text?
A. To promote a typical type of martial arts.
B. To apply the philosophy of yin and yang.
C. To serve as a form of traditional Chinese medicine.
D. To improve physical health and mental well-being.
9. What does Paragraph 3 mainly discuss?
A. Natural phenomenon. B. Taiji’s philosophical meaning.
C. The construction of the universe. D. The harmony between man and nature.
10. How does Tai Chi benefit the elderly particularly?
A. It removes stress and anxiety. B. It prevents blood pressure.
C. It leads to a free flow of qi. D. It builds muscle strength.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Tai Chi: A Fitness Art B. Tai Chi: A Chinese Philosophy
C. Tai Chi: A Medicine of Mind D. Tai Chi: An Ancient Practice
D
Every organization has tons of important data to protect. Important business data, customers’ personal
information, and confidential documents that should not be shown to outsiders are a few examples. The safety of
data is only made possible by using network safety tools and skills.
The importance of network safety in the modern business has increased since a large part of the workforce
started working remotely (远程) . Today, office information systems are spread in one huge network across many
areas. A centralized system to protect network devices from being attacked doesn’t exist as it did before. This
design leaves more vulnerable (脆弱) points that hackers (黑客) can take advantage of.
A cybercriminal (网络犯罪) can find these vulnerable points and cause damage to the system inside. An
incident like this will lead to loss of funds, confidential information, and customer data, and it will also destroy the
name of the business.
In March 2020, Marriott International suffered a major data attack in which the information of 5. 2 million
guests was accessed (获取) using the login information of two employees. Twitter wasn’t spared from attacks.Strong network safety techniques are modern-day necessities for the survival of businesses, but more than that,
network safety awareness has also become the need of the hour.
For today’s businesses, network safety is not limited to IT professionals and companies connected with it.
Network safety is for everyone - lawyers, designers, musicians, bankers, and others will all find a network safety
system beneficial for their work and business. By fixing network safety system and training employees on it, a
small business will make its employees more responsible, a law office will better protect its data, and a designer
will find more effective ways to control their important documents.
12. What does the underlined word “confidential” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Public. B. Informal. C. Secret. D. Unimportant.
13. What probably endangers the network safety?
A. The absence of the centralized safety system. B. The poor modern business environment.
C. The design of the network system. D. The popularity of working remotely.
14. Why does the author mention Marriott International and Twitter?
A. To stress their high position in business.
B. To express the need to protect the network.
C. To show the threat of remote work to networks.
D. To state the effective measures of big companies.
15. What can be learned about network safety from the text?
A. Its changes and weaknesses. B. Its difficulties and courses.
C. Its crimes and effects. D. Its challenges and solutions.

【答案】Dear editors,
Since entering senior high school, I’ve faced several challenges. Academically, the courses are much more
difficult, especially math and English. The heavy workload of homework and assignments also made it hard to
balance study and life. Socially, making new friends wasn’t as easy as I thought.
To overcome these, I made a detailed study-plan to manage my time better for study. For math and English, I
asked teachers and classmates for help and did more exercises. When it came to making friends, I actively
participated in school activities and joined some clubs. Now, I feel more confident and adapted to senior high school life. I believe challenges are opportunities for
growth.
