Students’ Voluntary Work in a Community
Last Saturday witnessed a voluntary activity organized by the Students’ Union in the
nearby community themed at “Step into the Community, Serve Everyone”, which was well
received by the neighborhood.
The event was filled with meaningful activities. The voluntary work started from nine
o’clock, lasting for three hours. Upon our arrival at the local community center, we began to
conduct different tasks. Not only did we clean public spaces, but also we assisted the elderly
with their daily tasks. Additionally, we organized a health awareness campaign, educating
residents on healthy living habits.
All the students involved participated with great enthusiasm. I deeply realized the
significance of community engagement and the fulfillment voluntary work brings.

One Possible Version:
At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. I hated the
nickname “Germy,” but seeing him isolated was also not what I wanted. Guilt pushed me to him.
“What do you want, Germy?” Del asked, his voice sounding more hurt than angry. I sat next to
him and gradually uttered the whole thing about how my hasty assumption turned into such a
terrible rumor. “I’m sorry. I wish I had never said that,” I apologized, daring not to look into his
eyes. Annoyance and surprise flickered across his face. But seconds later, he lowered his head
and said quietly, “It’s okay. I guess I wasn’t very nice to you, either.” His words soothed me, but
I could feel he was still sad.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I walked
towards the kickball players and called for their attention. Everyone stopped in surprise. “Del
didn’t beat up anyone,” I stated, explaining what actually happened. Whispers of astonishment
spread and finally one player shouted, “Alright, Del, do you want to join my team?” A smile
broke through Del’s gloomy face, “Yes, and I want Jamie on it, too!” He glanced at me shyly,and I could tell his use of my real name was his way of making an apology. Soon the playground
was filled with laughter and talks. But this time they made me realize something — words have
the power to hurt and heal.

I promised. Del’s face softened a bit. “Okay, Jamie. I owe you an apology too,” he said with a
shrug. It was the first time he’d used my real name. I almost smiled. I knew I had done the right
thing.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before recess was over. The game was
still going on. I approached the players and asked them to stop for a moment. Everyone,
including Del, was surprised. “Guys, I am sorry, but I got something to say.” I admitted that it
was I who started the rumor. “Del didn’t beat up anyone,” I said. Upon hearing this, the players
were confused for a brief moment but soon figured out what had really happened. “Hey,
welcome back,”They waved to Del. Del nodded willingly, with a happy look back to his face.
Seeing Del playing the game vigorously, I finally felt relieved that I eventually mended a big
mistake.

I could have done.

W: ⑭How many bestsellers is that now?
M: ⑭If you include the current book, it’s four. I’ve been very lucky to do so well.
W: I hear that your first book is being made into a film.
M: Yes, it’s very exciting! I’ll meet with the producer in a few weeks to discuss the release
date.
W: ⑮Did you get very involved in the film-making process?
M: ⑮No, filming is taking place in America which is so far away from where I’m based, so
I’ve been leaving things to the professionals.
W: ⑮So your fans needn’t worry about you leaving writing for a career in Hollywood?
M: ⑮No, that will never happen. ⑯And this coming September I’ll start instructing
young adults in creative writing. I think it’s important to encourage new talent. Then I have
my next book to start work on.

W: Well, let me share some of my travel experiences in the Republic of Korea. Last spring, I
spent two weeks there. I explored Seoul’s crowded streets and Jeju Island’s relaxing
landscapes.
⑰My adventure started in a colorful Airbnb in Seoul. ⑱I wandered through lively
shopping districts, relaxed in peaceful parks, had tours and enjoyed the exciting
nightlife, which included exploring famous streets and experiencing diverse food adventures,
from street food to dining at a five-star restaurant.
Then off to Jeju Island which offered a calm contrast. After considering camping, I stayed at a
spa hotel and a beach house. Jeju’s beauty shone in its perfect beaches and volcanic
landscapes. ⑲I loved a visit to a hidden waterfall, which was a highlight for its magical
atmosphere. The warmth of the locals and an energetic village festival added to Jeju’s
appeal, showcasing the island’s rich cultural traditions.
⑱The Republic of Korea was a mixture of Seoul’s energetic urban life and Jeju’s quiet
natural retreats, ⑳making it an ideal destination for anyone seeking variety in their
travels. Its rich culture, delicious cuisine, and beautiful landscapes left a lastingimpression on me. It’s a perfect place for foodies, culture enthusiasts, and nature lovers
alike.
