Audio script 1
Announcer: Hi there. Today we’ll talk about a survey in an American middle school.
Scientists showed 200 students half a glass of water. They then asked the
question: Is the glass half full or half empty? Guess what? Seventy per cent
thought it was half full, and thirty per cent said it was half empty. What does
this mean? The “glass half-full” people usually look on the bright side of life.
The “glass half-empty” people often believe that bad things will happen. So,
what about you? What kind of person are you?
Audio script 2
Dr Zheng: Hello, I’m Dr Zheng. Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, we meet problems.
What shall we do? Let’s take Kate and Mike for example. This morning, they
both missed their school bus. Let’s listen to Kate first.
Kate: I waved but the bus just went away. I had to run all the way to school. My legs
hurt. And I missed the presentation. What a bad day!
Dr Zheng: Now let’s listen to Mike.
Mike: I ran all the way to school. It’s a great way to exercise! I was late for the Music
class. I sang a song to say sorry. It was a wonderful morning!
Dr Zheng: Well, Kate is a “glass half-empty” person. And Mike is a “glass half-full” person.
So it’s important to look on the bright side of life. Let’s choose to see the glass as
half full.
