第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Designers are increasingly using different kinds of materials to produce products that do not
harm the environment. Reused plastic bottles, wood, plant fiber, and even seaweed are being used
in place of traditional materials for household goods and clothing.
Unusual materials
Nina Edwards Anker's candleholder and ceiling lamp look like ancient pieces of paper placed
around electronic lights known as LEDs. But a closer look shows that they are made of algae (藻
类). Anker came up with the idea while working on a doctoral research project at the Oslo School
of Architecture and Design.
A show for new materials in Germany
Heimtextil is an international trade show, or fair, for new textiles in Frankfurt, Germany. This
year' fair placed attention on making new products that came from reused materials.
“We'll see companies demonstrating how inorganic materials like nylon, plastic and metal
can be reused,” Olaf Schmidt, Heimtextil's vice president of textiles and textile technology, said.
He added, “And there's seaweed, used to produce sound pads and panels that provided great
insulation (隔音), are fire-resistant and regulate humidity (湿度) well.”
Many companies using other materialsPatagonia, North Face and Timberland are among the companies now using natural materials
to produce goods. Italian company Frumat has developed a plant-based leather made from the
waste created by apple juice makers. Pinatex helps support farms in the Philippines by using waste
from the pineapple harvest to create material that is sold to makers of shoes, clothing and other
products.
21.Where is this text probably taken from?
A.A news report. B.A personal diary.
C.An environment journal. D.An academic article.
22.What is one of the functions of seaweed as a new material?
A.Making LEDs. B.Insulating a sound.
C.Displacing inorganic materials. D.Producing a plant-based leather.
23.How many companies are using waste to produce items in the last paragraph?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
B
As the year comes to an end, we don't want to lose sight of the fact that it's been a difficult
one for a lot of people. They might be feeling grief, frustration or even cautious optimism. This
got me thinking about poetry and how it can be used to understand or work through complex
emotions.
So to help us out, I talked with poet Danez Smith. He told me that he briefly stopped writing
poetry at the start of the year, but explained what it's been like to return to it. He thought most of
his poetry was about interacting with other people around him, whether it's witnessing other
people living their lives or just living his life amongst his people, his family, and then going back
to the page to report that. But he told me that it was really hard for him to understand what poetry
was without people in his life as he had lost several family members and friends due to the illness.
He took on a challenge for himself, saying, “I'm going to write a poem every day and try to
keep up with it. I know that my poetry does its best when I'm interacting with people, but how can
I use my time around people? How can I focus my sight so that I'm seeing those around me and
maybe to deal with some of the deep, dark darkness that we all had confronted in these times of
intense loneliness?”
As for poems about grief, he told what came to his mind was “After The Fire” by Ada
Limon. Grief was often accompanied by other feelings like anger, loneliness, confusion andsometimes even happiness, but when reading it, you could cry so hard that there would be nothing
left in you, like how the wind shakes a tree in a storm until every part of it ran through with wind.
Funny thing about grief, its hold is so bright and determined, like a flame, like something
almost worth living for. He thought the poem not just captured his emotions, but it was a great
way for him to discover his feelings.
24.What did the author reflect on?
A.The feeling of sadness. B.The function of poetry.
C.The spread of optimism. D.The process of understanding poetry.
25.What did Danez Smith mainly tell the author in paragraph 2?
A.How he completely stopped writing his poetry.
B.How he got the point of poetry.
C.How he used poetry to be free from grief.
D.How he understood his poetry writing.
26.What does the word “confronted” underlined in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Faced. B.Compared. C.Escaped. D.Settled.
27.How does the poem After The Fire affect people?
A.It guides them to step out of selfhood.
B.It helps them relieve their great sadness.
C.It offers them courage to face difficulties.
D.It gets them to realize the meaning of life.

As smartphones have become increasingly common everywhere, there has been a
corresponding increase in the amount of time that people spend looking at screens. This has led to
concerns about the effect that phones are having on our ability to connect with the world around
us. While efforts to get people to put down their phones and engage with nature have often been
unsuccessful, one new app is hoping to change that.
EarthSnap is a new app that allows people to identify plant and animal species via their
mobile phone's camera. The app also provides information about the local area and its wildlife,
helping to educate users about the natural world. The information will be open-source and shared
with citizens and the scientific community. By making this tool available to as many people aspossible, Eric Ralls, Founder and CEO of EarthSnap says he aims to bring people back to nature,
to help them realize that human being is a part of nature, not ‘apart’ from nature.
EarthSnap also features a social community: Earthchat. The e-social community brings users
together with other ecologically (生态意义上) conscious individuals and organizations from all
over the world via forums. The hope is that this will help promote and spread eco-friendly causes.
EarthSnap is fully launched and can be found on the App Store. The platform currently holds
information on 2 million plant and animal species, and will use uploaded photos to grow
EarthSnap's database.
There are around 8.7 million species on Earth. With land use, pollution, and climate change
driving a loss of biodiversity and an increasing number of species at risk, it is essential for us to
identify and protect them. Besides EarthSnap, we have spotted several other recent innovations
including a method for conducting environmental surveys using DNA, biotechnology that matches
trees to the eco-system, and a catfood brand helping to restore the world's coral reefs.
28.What does paragraph 1 serve as?
A.A comment. B.A background. C.An argument. D.An explanation.
29.Why does Eric Ralls develop EarthSnap?
A.To improve people's photography.
B.To promote the sales of smartphones.
C.To arouse people's interest in technology.
D.To help people to engage with nature.
30.What can we learn about Earthchat?
A.It works for ecological organizations.
B.It uploads data for scientific research.
C.It offers a platform to exchange ideas.
D.It raises money for eco-friendly causes.
31.What message does the last paragraph convey?
A.Different ways have been tried for environmental protection.
B.More surveys of climate change are being carried out.
C.More species are at risk of losing their habitat.
D.Biodiversities need to be further discovered.
DMost people get their news online now. But with so much online content to consume and so
little time, editors at news outlets know that writing “catchy” headlines is more important than
ever. So, what makes a headline catchy? A new study published in Nature Human Behaviour
found negative emotion words in headlines made it more likely that readers would click through
and continue reading. In contrast, positive emotion words decreased click rates.
The idea that people are more attentive to negative things is not new. Journalists have always
had this intuition (直觉), and psychology studies have backed it up. Given this negativity bias, do
people tend to engage more with negative news content online?
Previous research suggests the answer is yes. For example, people share more content if it
makes them angry. But a lot of this research has been done either in a controlled lab setting, or it
has been correlational, so we can't know for sure if negativity actually causes people to consume
news more. That's why the dataset analyzed by Robertson and his colleagues is so special. First of
all, it is data on the number of clicks (“click-through rate” is the technical term) in response to
105,000 headlines on the news site Upworthy. Therefore, these are real decisions being made by
real people. Moreover, Upworthy often tested out (through random assignment) different
headlines for the same exact story, so they essentially ran experiments on their users. Therefore,
even when the content of the news story was exactly the same, when editors put negative words
like “hate” and “worst” into the headline, more people clicked on it, and when they included
positive words like “love” and “best”, fewer people clicked through.
In the future, it will be interesting to see how generalizable these findings are. For instance,
this study did not look at individual differences in news consumption, and it is possible that the
results would depend on the reader's personality or age.
32.Which type of headlines are more likely to attract readers' clicks?
A.Those with straightforward words. B.Those with negative emotion words.
C.Those with something general. D.Those with underlined words.
33.How did Upworthy test different headlines for the same story?
A.Through random assignment.
B.By changing positive emotion headlines.
C.By recording users about their preferences.
D.Through artificial intelligence's prediction.
34.What is the function of the last paragraph?A.To present the main findings of the study.
B.To provide background information on negativity bias.
C.To suggest potential limitations and future research directions.
D.To discuss the dataset analyzed by Robertson and his colleagues.
35.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.The power of positive thinking in news consumption
B.Upworthy's secret to boosting click-through rates
C.The psychology behind reading news online
D.Negativity increases online news consumption

Dreams won't cost you anything. They are going to be with you forever, and require no effort
on your part. Goals, however, require action. 3 6 Achieving a goal will cost you time, effort,
money, and sacrifice. Research has found that one of the best ways to guarantee goals will be
achieved is by writing them down. Here are four tips on how to write down goals.
Define your goals.
3 7 Your current situation will determine your next step. Then move on to write about
where you would like to be in the future. What is your ultimate aim?
Include, in the overall plan, the short-term goals that you will need to achieve during the
journey, and, if possible, include a timetable.
3 8
Creating a timetable means you will have to think of the big picture. Now is your opportunity
to allow yourself the luxury of dreaming. Turn that dream into a goal by giving it substance, and
planning the route.
Your timetable for success will gradually come together, and you can decide where you want
to be in, say, one year, five years, or ten years. Don't fudge (含糊其词) it, be specific, and be
ambitious.
Now, look at the detail. Now that you have turned your dream into a goal, and decided on your path, turn to the short-
term goals. Consider the short-term objectives you will need to achieve as you progress towards
your ultimate goal. 3 9
Always be positive.
Make your plan positive. You will not be inspired if you use negative language. 4 0 List
what you are going to do in positive tones that will encourage you and spur you on.
Having a plan brimful of confidence and heartening language will encourage you to achieve
your ultimate goal.
A.In this, they have a cost.
B.Keep the big picture in mind.
C.Begin by deciding where you are at present.
D.Dreams are long-term and often stay as dreams.
E.Don't say what you are not going to do anymore.
F.So you have a clear idea of the steps you will need to take.
G.With this in mind, now it is the time to create your grand plan.

第二节 (满分25分)

In a remote village in the mountains, there was a wise old woman named Nana. For many
years, she had been the village's go-to person for advice and guidance. People from all walks oflife would come to her with their problems, seeking her wisdom and insights. Nana had a gift for
understanding people's troubles and offering them practical solutions. Her reputation grew, and
people even came from neighboring villages just to speak with her.
One day, a young man named Tom approached Nana, his face full of worry and concern. He
had recently lost his job as a carpenter due to the declining demand for his trade in the village.
With a wife and two young children to support, Tom felt overwhelmed and helpless. He didn't
know what to do and desperately needed guidance.
Nana listened carefully to Tom's story, her eyes filled with empathy and understanding. After
a moment of reflection, she suggested that he should try fishing in the nearby river. The village
had always depended on farming, but recent droughts had taken a toll on the crops. Fishing, she
believed, could offer a new way to support his family.
Tom, who had no experience in fishing and had never even held a fishing rod, was hesitant.
However, trusting Nana's wisdom, he decided to give it a shot. He borrowed a simple fishing rod
from a neighbor and made his way to the river the next morning. As he cast his line into the water,
he was surprised to catch a fish almost immediately. Excited by his success, Tom spent the entire
day fishing, and by the evening, he had caught enough fish to feed his family and sell the extras at
the market. Tom thanked Nana for her advice, and she reminded him that sometimes, the best
solutions come from unexpected places.
