(2022·浙江嘉兴·一模)Do you know anyone born in the Year of the Tiger? What’s their personality
like? Are they brave, strong and tenacious (坚韧的)? If so, then they are a typical “tiger”.
In the Chinese culture, tigers are considered the king of all animals. They mean power, energy and
protection. Tiers are regarded as fearless animals, so that’s why in China you can see pictures of tigers on the
walls of houses to keep away danger.
Tigers have an important cultural meaning not just in China, but across Asia. As they mostly live in Asia,
for many people in the West, they have become a cultural symbol of Eastern countries. For example, strong
economies (经济体) in the East - Singapore, South Korea, China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan - were called
“The Four Asian Tigers”. In the book Life of Pi, Canadian writer Yann Martel chose a Bengal tiger as the
partner for Indian boy Pi on his adventure in the Pacific Ocean.
In the West, ▲ . A famous phrase is: “Eye of the Tiger”, which means power and strength. In
English, if you want someone to calm down, you can Say to them, “easy tiger”.
Tigers are also one of my favorite animals. I first learned about the beauty of tigers as a child, while
watching animal programs. If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you that my favourite toy while growing up was
my toy tiger, which I still treasure dearly to this day. As a young animal lover, I felt so sad that they were in
danger and I wanted to help protect them.
Just like tigers serve as a symbol of protection in the Chinese culture, we can only hope that in the Year
of the Tiger more people can learn about tigers and help protect them better.

(2022·山东临沂·二模)What is time? Is it a thing to be saved or spent or wasted, like money? Or is
it something we have no control over, like the weather? Is it the same all over the world? That’s an easy
question. A minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 60 minutes, and so forth. Well, maybe. But in America, “Time
is money.”
Because Americans believe time is a limited resource, they try to keep and manage it. People in the US
often attend meetings or read books on time management. It seems that they all want to organize their time
better. People try their best to press more life out of their time.
To Americans, being on time is a way of showing respect for other people’s time. Being more than 10
minutes late usually calls for an apology and an explanation. People who are running late often call ahead to
let others know that they can’t be on time. Of course, the less formal (正式的), the less important it is to be
exactly on time. At informal get-togethers, for example.
American lifestyles show how much people respect the time of others. When people plan an event, they
often set the time days or weeks before it. Once the time is fixed, it is almost impossible to change it. If
people want to come to your house for a friendly visit, people seldom call others late at night for fear they
might be in bed. The time may be different, but most people think twice about calling after 10: 00 pm.
Even Americans would agree that no one can master time. Time, like money, slips all too easily through
our fingers. And time is very hard to predict. However, time is one of life’s most valuable gifts.
根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。
15.From Paragraph 1, we can learn that ________.
A.Americans waste lots of money and time
B.people can only control 60 minutes a day
C.Americans regard time as something valuable
16.In Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4, the writer mainly tells us that ________.
A.Americans respect others’ time in daily lifeB.Americans never call after ten o’clock
C.Americans visit friends without calling first
17.The underlined phrase “think twice” probably means “________”.
A.pay attention B.consider carefully C.feel relaxed
18.According to this passage, ________.
A.most American people treasure their time
B.people can master and predict time easily
C.Americans like time better than anything else
