When I was in junior high school, I decided to learn Latin at school. I was so
excited and really expected to learn it well. However, the Latin class turned out to be
quite boring. Each day, Mr. Clark, the teacher, would ask us to open our books and
read aloud theLatin words.
One afternoon, when we were asked to open our books again, I decided to speak
up. After I explained why I found his class boring and that his teaching method
seemed old-fashioned, Mr. Clark didn’t get angry. To my surprise, he quietly said that
hewould think carefully about what Ihad said. He looked disappointed and tired.
In the following weeks, the Latin class didn’t become exciting, but Mr. Clark did
try harder to interest us in his classes.
Maybe some people would praise what I did, but even so many years later, I feel
bad about it. Mr. Clark taught me a wonderful lesson that day. He showed me that we
should takeunkind words kindly.

We speak English, but do you know about the changes in English? The English
that people used 500 years ago was very different from the English we use now. In
fact, English is always changing. But what causes languages to change? And is
language change apositivething?
There are many reasons why languages change. One reason is that technology
changes. We use new words for new types of technology. For example, the word
mouse means a kind of animal, but now we know it’s also a part of the computer.
Another important reason is that different countries and cultures are now widely
communicating with each other. For example, English uses words like yoghurt from
Turkish. Languages also change because young people create their own different
ways of talking.Thenew words usually become popularontheInternet first.
But is language change a good or bad thing? Some people think that we should
stop languages from changing. They think that they need to protect their languages
from becoming worse. However, other people believe that it is normal that languages
change over time. They think that languages need to change to stay modern and
interesting.参考答案

Safety is very important in our daily lives. We need to pay close attention to it,
whether at home, school or in our neighborhood. When something unsafe might
happen, weshould try ourvery best towarn others and prevent it.
I remember it was an extremely hot summer afternoon, and the sun was blazing
down on us. My classmates and I were playing by the lake when one of my
classmates suddenly suggested that we go swimming in the river to cool off. I looked
around and found noone was there except us.There was nosign near the river and we
didn’t even know how deep the river was. Just as one of my classmates was about to
jump into the river, I shouted to him and stopped him. I told my classmate seriously
that the river might be very dangerous and we should protect ourselves. In the end,
they all accepted my advice, and wewent homesafely that day.
In my understanding, there are some ways tokeep safe. Weshould always follow
the rules when we do anything. Try not to put ourselves in danger. If we are in danger
already,we must call thepolice intimeand doeverything possibletoavoid harm.
