句子主干：The longest bull run ended on a dramatic note
end on a note：以...结束。这是个习语，来自于音乐里面，一般是说：end on a high note：表示 “以一种成功或积极的方式结束”，英文释义：finalize sth successfully / in a positive manner.
note前的那个形容词是可以随意换的，所以，这里就是这个最长的 “牛市” 结束了。
bull run：牛市（股票术语，就是股票看涨的时期，市场前景好的意思）
dramatic adj. 戏剧性的。
in部分是状语：in a century of art-market history，即：一个世纪的艺术市场史上。
with部分是伴随状语：
with a sale of 56 works by Damien Hirst, Beautiful Inside My Head Forever，at Sotheby’s in London on September 15th, 2008.
这里的Beautiful Inside My Head Forever是一个展览会的名字，这个展览会就是Damien Hirst（达明·赫斯特）作品的展览会，这个展览会是由Sotheby’s（苏富比）来举办的，而苏富比就是一个拍卖行，说白了就是展览了，吸引买家去买，就这么回事。

②All but two pieces sold, fetching more than £70m, a record for a sale by a single artist.所有作品中只有两件没有售出，销售额超过7000万英镑，创造了单个艺术家的拍卖纪录。
句子主干：All but two pieces sold
all but表示：“除了”，本质就是转折，比如：所有人都可以进入游乐园，除了A和B。这里是说，只有两件没有卖出去。
fetch部分是分词做状语，这里相当于一个非限定性定语从句：which fetchs...。
fetch vt. 售得；卖得（某价格），7000万英镑，差不多7亿人民币！
a部分是7000万这个数字的同位语，进一步说明这个数字：a record for a sale by a single artist.
record n. 记录。
③It was a last victory.这是艺术品市场的最后胜利。
it指代这场拍卖。
last adj. 最后的。
victory n. 胜利。
④As the auctioneer called out bids,in New Yorkone of the oldest banks on Wall Street, Lehman Brothers, filed for bankruptcy.就在拍卖师大声喊出报价时，纽约华尔街上历史最悠久的银行之一雷曼兄弟宣布破产。
as部分是时间状语从句
auctioneer n. 拍卖商。
call out：大声叫。
bid n. 出价；喊价（看过拍卖的都应该知道，7000万一次，7000万两次，7000万三次，锤子敲下去，成交。）
句子主干：one of the oldest banksfiled for bankruptcy.
file for：申请；提出...申请。
bankruptcy n. 破产。
in newYork是地点状语。
on wall street是介词短语后置定语，修饰banks，即：华尔街最古老的银行。
oldest adj. 最古老的。
Lehman Brothers是one的同位语，即：雷曼兄弟就是这华尔街上最古老的银行之一。
这里还有另外一种写法：in New York, Lehman Brothers, one of the oldest banks on Wall Street, filed for bankruptcy. （都是一样的）
总结：第一段是说，艺术市场持续了一个世纪的牛市已经随着赫斯特的 56 部作品的大卖而结束了，就是繁荣时期过了，这次拍卖就是标志。这是最后的狂欢（victory）。而且就在这些作品卖出之际，雷曼兄弟银行申请破产了。
