A woman has recalled her childhood spent “trapped” on a boat with her parents, detailing how she made her
“escape”.
While her parents thought it was the trip of a lifetime and often described the opportunity as a “privilege”,
Suzanne has since compared it to being locked up in prison.
Now 55 years old, Suzanne has shared her tale of survival on the Internet, and recalled her 10 years at sea in her
tell-all memoir Wavewalker. Despite her father assuring her the “trip would be safe”, Suzanne claimed it was
“incredibly dangerous”, sharing details of a dangerous journey from South Africa to Australia where the boat hit an

recalled. “I was thrown, a little girl at 7, against the ceiling of the cabin and against the wall, breaking my skull and
nose. Three days later, we found a tiny little island in the middle of the Indian Ocean where I had multiple head
operations without anaesthetic (麻醉剂).”
In order to get through her “very strange” childhood, Suzanne recalled how she determined to get an education
to live a normal life. While remote education wasn’t an option in 1969, Suzanne enrolled in an Australian
correspondence school when she was 13. Then, when she was 16, and her brother 15, her parents enrolled the two
teenagers in a school in New Zealand while they continued sailing. Despite the gaps in her education, Suzanne
landed a spot at Oxford University, and after saving up money she’d earned working on a farm, Suzanne bought a
one-way plane ticket back to the UK.
Since going public with her story, which she was inspired to do after the death of her husband in 2018, Suzanne’s
book instantly became a bestseller. Suzanne’s extraordinary tale has captured the hearts of millions. “Wavewalker is
one of the best books I’ve read. I’m so sorry you went through all that,” one person replied, while another said,
“Thank you for the this! Your story inspires me and I can change my life no matter when and how.”
24. How does Suzanne find the ten-year journey at sea?
.
A Amusing and rewarding. B. Eventful and risky.
.
C Private and Plain. D. Inspiring and comforting.
25. Why did Suzanne decide to get an education?
A. To get her life back on track. B. To earn enough money.
C. To adapt to her strange childhood. D. To prove her parents wrong.
26. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
.
A Suzanne’s book is well received.
B. Suzanne’s book gets divided opinions.
C. Suzanne’s book highlights adventurous spirits.
D. Suzanne’s husband inspires her to write the book.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. A Dangerous Journey Shapes a Brave Woman.
B. A Success Story Inspires More People to Follow.
C. A Best-seller Describes an Unforgettable Journey at Sea.
D. A Woman Trapped on a Boat for a Decade Details “Escape”.

学科网(北京)股份有限公司This morning, I saw the shocking headline: “Passenger Dies When Car Crashes in Driverless Mode”. In the
article, various people said that the public should oppose the idea of developing driverless cars. They said that some
advances in technology were unnecessary and could even be dangerous. Hence, we should cease accepting technology
just because it is new. The newspaper reported that the car company had already apologized for the accident, but the
families of the dead said it was not enough. Nevertheless, the company still claimed that most people would be
traveling in driverless cars one day soon.
On the one hand, there are many different groups of people around the world who live happily in the absence of
new technology. They do not own or drive cars, watch TV, or use the Internet. They live mainly as farmers, and they
will probably be living the same way in the distant future. They advocate a simple life with an emphasis on hard
work, family and community. They think that is better than caring about luxuries or following the lives of the rich
and famous.
On the other hand, new technology has provided people everywhere with many benefits over the years. For
example, the latest weather-tracking computer programmes give people lots of warnings about potential natural
disasters, which saves many lives. Moreover, the Internet has made it possible for friends and family to keep in touch
easily even if they are on opposite sides of the world. It has also made finding opportunities in life much easier, as it
allows people to make larger networks of friends through using social media.
Personally, I have benefited quite a lot from technological advances. I found my career as an Al designer
through a social media network. My health monitor, which I wear all the time, has also helped me get into the best
shape of my life. Of course, technology changes the way we live, and it can be a scary prospect. Nevertheless, I will
always look on the positive side of change and accept it rather than resist it.
28. What does the underlined word “cease” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Stop. B. Tolerate. C. Admit. D. Appreciate.
29. Why does the author mention the groups in paragraph 2?
A. To praise the groups.
B. To advocate a simple rural lifestyle.
C. To emphasize the importance of hard work.
D. To present positive sides of tech-free life.
30. What is paragraph 3 of the text mainly about?
A. The major strengths of new technology.
B. The main reasons for developing technology.
C. The future application of the new technology.

A. Unclear. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Approving.

If we think of a book we studied months ago, we will find it easier to recall its colour, its typeface, and the table
where we sat than the content we were concentrating on. If we think of a lecture we listened to with great concentration,
we will recall the lecturer’s appearance, the failure of the air-conditioning, much more easily than the ideas we went
to learn. This phenomenon proves that the connections made in the brain through unconscious processing are more
lasting than those made through conscious (有意识的) processing. George Lozanov therefore proposed his theory
and came up with a new teaching approach.
In suggestopedia (暗示教学法), as he called his method, consciousness is shifted away from the curriculum to
focus on something around. In a recent experiment, it consists of two sessions. The first session is in two parts. In the
first part, the music is classical (Mozart, Beethoven…) and the teacher reads the text slowly and sincerely, with
attention to the dynamics of the music. The students follow the text in their books. This is followed by several minutes
of silence. In the second part, they listen to baroque music (Bach, Corelli, Handel…) while the teacher reads the
text in a normal speaking voice. During this time they have their books closed.
Some hours after the two-part session, there is a follow-up class at which the students are stimulated to recall
the material presented. Once again the approach is indirect. The students do not focus their attention on trying to
remember the vocabulary, but focus on using the language to communicate.
While suggestopedia has gained some fame through success in the teaching of modern languages, few teachers
are able to achieve the same level of success as Lozanov and his associates. The students have not developed the
appropriate mind set. They are often not motivated to learn through this method because they do not have enough
“faith”. They do not see it as “real teaching” especially as it does not seem to involve the “work” that is essential to
learning.
32. What’s easier to recall in paragraph 1?
A. Book content. B. Lecture ideas.
C. Associated details. D. Consciously learned facts.
33. Why are different types of music used in the experiment?
A. To let teachers teach more freely.
B. To see how students react to music.
C. To create different learning atmospheres.
第7页/共12页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司D. To test students’ music appreciation ability.
34. What is a key feature of suggestopedia in the experiment?
A. Focusing on direct vocabulary memorization. B. Stimulating active recall of texts.
C. Using a direct teaching approach. D. Encouraging passive listening.
35. What can be inferred about the new method from the last paragraph?
A. It has gained great popularity. B. It still has a long way to go.
C. Students’ attitude helps its success. D. It’s a win-win strategy.

Active learning
Most people assume that the human brain is set on “automatic” — that means it learns all by itself.
____36____ These kinds of learning behaviors are called “active learning”. I suggest doing four things to take an
active role in your learning.
____37____ There are two kinds of voices: the inner voice and the outer voice. Your inner voice expresses your
personal opinions, while the outer voice tells you about what you hear or read. If you keep paying too much attention to
it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus on what the speaker/
writer is saying, not on what their brain is saying in the background. In this way, they are in a better position to make
decisions.
Ask questions. Asking questions is the easiest way to promote active learning. When you get information from
someone, from books or the Internet, ask questions about the topic. ____38____ And the very act of working out
questions will help you to achieve a higher level of understanding about the topic.
Get to the truth. Active learners do not accept everything they learn. They attempt to find the truth at the heart
of each idea. Even when an idea sounds entirely unlikely, there may be an aspect of it that is based on truth. No matter
how crazy an idea seems, try to find out the source of it. ____39____
Focus on the message. Many people miss out on learning opportunities because they let their feelings get in the
way. ____40____ This is human nature, after all. But do not forget you can still learn from them. Active learners do
not judge people based on first impressions or personal feelings. This goes the other way as well — do not just assume
that some people are always right because of who they are or just because they are your friends.
A. Listen to the outer voice.
B. Do not stop being curious.
C. Argue with your inner voice.
第8页/共12页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司D. The answers will lead you to further learning.
E. It is true that we cannot help disliking some people.
F. Actually, we need to train ourselves to be better learners.
G. Thus, you will increase your chance of learning something.

It was unseasonally hot in the Australian state of New South Wales. By mid-afternoon on Thursday, the sun was
beating down and the clear blue skies showed no signs of the forecast rain. Adrian Main was doing what he loved,
working outside in the bushes (灌木丛) that surround the leafy suburbs of Sydney.
Guided by his love of mountain-bike riding, Adrian had founded Synergy Trails, a construction company that
specialized in installing narrow, winding dirt-bike trails in the bushes for weekend and competition riders. It was
dusty, dirty work at times, but with the trees providing shade and the only noise coming from his team and the local
birds, there wasn’t any place he’d rather be.
Over the years, the 40-year-old had encountered poisonous creatures while working around in soil, including
poisonous spiders and snakes, but he knew how to distinguish the non-threatening ones from the really dangerous
ones. Adrian was trained in first aid, though he never seriously thought he’d need it.
With the clock ticking down towards the start of the weekend, Adrian had only a few chores left to do. His tool
was in his vehicle, parked some 50 metres away. He considered getting it, but the job was small, and only a light dig
was necessary to get beneath the shallow soil and leaf litter. So he used his hands instead. However, just as his fingers
slid under the pile of leaves, he felt a sharp, deep pain in his left hand. Adrian quickly pulled out his hand, only to see
a spider on his left index finger. The five-centimetre-long black creature had its sharp teeth firmly cut into the skin. The
pain felt as if a nail were being hammered into his finger.
He shook his hand up and down hard to throw off the spider, and it finally dropped to the ground. It was a fully
grown male Sydney funnel-web, the most poisonous spider in Australia.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
