For one overseas student who has been in China for over a decade, learning the
moves and culture associated with Chinese martial arts(武术) has been his most
valuable experience.
So uley mane Hima Oumarou, a Nigerien student at Hebei University in Baoding,
Hebei province, first came to the university in 2012 as an undergraduate, not only for
an education, but also to achieve his dream of learning the Chinese martial art of kung
fu. He became a fan of kung fu after watching movies starring famous martial artists
such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
During his studies in Baoding, Oumarou joined the university's martial arts
association and studied under Duan Shuxing, one of the association's instructors.
Following Duan's instructions, Oumarou began to practice basic moves in 2015,
including Eight Extremities Fist, or bajiquan, as well as the associated art of tai chi.
"Learning martial arts has not been easy because I was not young when I started,"
the 36-yea--old said, adding that he was forced to overcome difficulties and make
more of an effort to learn more advanced moves.
As far as his instructor is concerned, Oumarou is hardworking and energetic. "He
always trains hard and has made great progress in the past seven years," Duan said.
So far, Oumarou has mastered multiple boxing techniques and knows how to use
many traditional Chinese weapons.
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!Apart from the skills he's learned, martial arts have brought him more. He has made
many
Chinese friends through learning kung fu and has been to many places around
China to participate in competitions.
Oumarou is now a doctoral student and is expected to graduate this year. In the
future, he plans to open a kung fu center in Niger after he graduates, and to become an
instructor and teach youngsters martial arts. He thinks that will also help him better
understand the spirit of martial arts, and also become a cultural communicator
between China and Niger.
24. What can we learn about Oumarou from paragraph 1 and paragraph 2?
A. He went abroad to realize his dream over ten years ago.
B. He came to China only to learn Chinese martial arts.
C. He had a terrible experience travelling around China.

It is generally acknowledged that the older we get the more slowly we react.
However, the new findings suggest that mental speed—the speed at which we can
deal with issues requiring rapid decision-making—does not change substantially over
decades.
Under the leadership of Dr. Mischa von Krause and Dr. Stefan Radev,
psychologists at Heidelberg University evaluated data from a large-scale online
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!experiment with over a million participants. They came to the conclusion that the
speed of cognitive information processing remains largely stable between the ages of
20 and 60, and only deteriorates at higher ages.
In the online experiment, subjects had to press a button to sort pictures of people
into the categories "white" or "black" and words into the categories "good" or "bad".
According to Dr. Mischa von Krause, the content focus was of minor importance.
Instead, the researchers used the large number of data as an example of a response-
time task to measure the duration of cognitive decisions.
When evaluating the data, Dr. Mischa von Krause and his colleagues noted that, on
average, the response time of the test subjects rose with increasing age. However,
with the aid of a mathematical model, they were able to show that this phenomenon
was not due to changes in mental speed. They think that older test subjects are slower
mainly because they reply more cautiously and concentrate more on avoiding
mistakes. At the same time, motor function speed slows down during the course of
adult life: older participants in the experiment needed longer to press the appropriate
key after they had found the right answer.
Another finding of the study was that average information processing speed only
progressively declined with participants over the age of 60. "It looks as though, in the
course of our life, we don't need to fear any substantial losses of mental speed—
particularly not in the course of a typical working life," says Dr. Mischa von Krause.
28. What is the common assumption about the adults' mental speed?
A. It declines with age. B. It is faster at the old age.
C. It is not affected by the age. D. It is constantly changing with age.
29. What does the underlined word "deteriorates" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Stays stable. B. Becomes worse.
C. Changes suddenly. D. Increases rapidly.
30. What does Dr. Mischa von Krause think causes the older subjects' response time
to rise?
A. Their emotional stability. B. The decline of mental speed.
C. Their mature and cautious nature. D. The lack of exercise for the older.
31. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To describe an online experiment.
B. To appeal to people to respect the elderly.
C. To tell people how to improve mental speed.
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!D. To reveal the conclusion of an online experiment.

The numbers are shocking: women make up less than 25% of the STEM (science-
technology-engineering-mathematics) workforce in the USA. Even if recent years
have seen an increase, the numbers are still not representative of wider population.
Why does this under-representation of women matter? Research shows diverse
teams perform better. Individuals from different genders, races, backgrounds and
experiences bring different perspectives that can lead to creative solutions. Given the
changes being brought on by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), we can't afford
not to have all hands involved.
STEM fields are key to obtain the rewards of 4IR, but STEM fields are also key to
dealing with the revolution's potential downsides, such as climate change, Internet-
related war and the reorientation (再定位) of job sectors. So it is essential that women
obtain the benefits and get involved in finding solutions.
However, why do women and girls participate in STEM fields at lower rates?
Studies show that it is not an ability issue. Marian Wright, a children's rights activist,
stated clearly, "You can't be what you can't see." When asked to draw a scientist, most
students draw a white man in a lab coat. The great majority of portrayals of scientists
and engineers in movies and television shows have been men.
But as awareness of the problem has grown, portrayals of women scientists and
engineers in the media have begun to change. The success of movies like Hidden
Figures, which tells the story of several African American women, working in
engineering and mathematics, helped put the first humans into space, enables girls to
not only see what women have already contributed, but to see themselves in that role.
4IR is changing the way we receive information, how we process it, how we work
and what jobs we will do. It is happening at an unprecedented(前所未有的)pace.
Because of this, we simply cannot afford to have any less than our whole population
engaged and contributing. The historical focus of STEM courses at university and
communities on weeding out students drove away women; now we need to focus on
how to include everyone.
32.What do we know from the passage?
A. Women in STEM are good at finding solutions.
B. Women are not as creative as men in STEM.
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!C. Not enough women are working in STEM.
D. Women have much lower status in STEM.
33.What does the underlined word "problem" refer to?
A. There aren't enough positive female role models.
B. Students usually more worship men scientists.
C. Female scientists are more exposed to the media.
D. The movies about women face a lot of challenges.
34.What will probably be talked about following the last paragraph?
A. Women's role in related careers in STEM fields.
B. Practice of involving women in STEM courses.
C. The categories of STEM courses in university.
D. The history and development of STEM courses.
35.Which is the best title of the passage?
A. The Status of Women Scientists Is Rising
B. Women's Scientific Spirit Is Strengthened
C. Women Scientists Are Becoming Idols
D. The Times Call for Women Scientists

There has been a very serious decline in the numbers of shallow-water fish as a
result of overfishing. People still want to eat fish, so the fishing industry must look at
other sources, especially the deep waters of the Atlantic. ①______
Conservation measures will have to be put in place if these deep-sea fish are to
survive. Research on five such species shows that numbers have declined by between
87 percent and 98 percent. ②______ Many species could well disappear completely
if the present trend continues. These are species that have been swimming in our
oceans for hundreds of millions of years.
The problem is emphasised by the fact that the decline in numbers happened in less
than twenty years. Deep-sea fish take a long time to reproduce and normally live for
many years.
③______ The average size of such fish also declined, with one species showing a
57 percent decline in average size. This is of particular concern, as large fish tend to
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!produce more offspring than small ones.
④______ The deep-sea species have been caught as if they were the fast-
breeding(快速繁殖) fish like sardine and herring. It is like killing elephants as if they
reproduced at the same rate as rabbits.
The damage done by overfishing goes beyond the sea environment. Millions of
people make a living in the fishing industry. ⑤______ Measures must be taken to not
only conserve ecosystems, but also sustain livelihoods and ensure food security,
A. Billions of people rely on fish for protein.
B. Many people now choose not to eat deep-sea fish.
C. Unfortunately, their reproduction rate is very low.
D. This puts them in the category of "critically endangered".
E. None of these facts has been taken into account by the fishing industry.
F. Overfishing is a major cause of decline in populations of ocean wildlife.
G. This has resulted in a sharp decline in the numbers of many of the species caught.

There's a park close to my house, with a small lake in one corner that's home to
many creatures. Every Sunday morning, I go jogging in this park. As I circle the lake,
I notice an elderly woman sitting by the water with a metal cage beside her.
Today, my curiosity made me stop and approach her.
As I took a closer look, I saw that the cage was actually a small metal trap, and
there were a few turtles walking around the trap, unharmed. The lady took one of the
turtles in her hands and gently rubbed the shell (壳) with a sponge (海绵) brush.
I came over to say hello to her politely. "Good morning," I said. "I come here for

mind my curiosity and innocence, but I really want to know what you're doing to the
turtles."
The lady smiled and said, "I am cleaning the turtle's shell. Turtles gradually get
more and more algae (水藻) and other dirt on their shells, which weighs them down
and prevents their swimming abilities. It also reduces their ability to absorb heat. Over
time, their shells become weak and rot (腐烂) away."
"Oh wow! That's really thoughtful of you!" I shouted in shock.
She continued, "Every Sunday morning, I spend a couple of hours by the lake to
relax and help out these little guys stay clean. Strange as it sounds, this is my little
way to make a difference in the world."
I thought for a while and said, "But all freshwater turtles have algae and other dirt
on their shells. They live with that their whole lives, don't they?"
"Yes, sadly, they can't help it," she replied.

M: The Wildlife Park here in the city.
W: Did you find this job through an employment agency?

16.答案: C
解析:M: You're starring in this brand new film. What makes it different from other
films we've seen you in before?
W: Well, this is my first time producing as well as acting. We also have an all-female
cast, so there are no men coming to the rescue.
M: Because in the world of the movie, men no longer exist.
W: That's right. Although it has a lot of action, it's primarily a science-fiction film. It
is about what would happen if there were only women left in the world.
M: So not your usual romantic comedies.
W: No, I've done a lot of those, and people associate me with those. So it felt good to
break away and try something new.
M: From the short scenes from the film, it looks as though there is a lot of action and
fights. How long did it take to make?
W: I read the script about three years ago, and then we gradually gathered together a
cast and crew. But once we started filming, it only took 6 months. The special effects
took double that.
M: So when can we expect to see it in cinemas?
W: It's coming out on 14th December in America, and then a week later around the
world.
M: Well, as I'm from the UK, I guess I'll have to wait patiently for 7 days.

解析:At Nike, we understand that our customer base is shifting. Not only do you
want the best sports shoes and clothing, but you want to make sure that the
manufacturing and supply of those goods are not impacting the environment. Like
you, we see climate change as a threat to the sports we love to play and watch. That is
why I am happy to announce the launch of our first pair of sports shoes made from
100% recycled product. This is the first in a number of products that will be released
under our new "Move to Zero" strategy. We hope that by 2025, all of our products,
including sportswear, bags and footwear, will have zero impact upon the environment.
This is our most ambitious project to date. Nike's global strategy is associated with
one goal—to save our planet. We are doing this in two ways. First, our manufacturing

第二节
答案:①its②to run③The④necessarily⑤selected⑥into⑦be
equipped⑧clarified⑨that/which⑩development
解析:①考查代词。此处用形容词性物主代词修饰空后的名词kind。
②考查非谓语动词。短语allow sb./sth. to do sth.
短语classify...into...意为“将……分类为……”,为固定用法。
版权所有©正确教育 侵权必究!⑦考查被动语态。动词equip与主语Conditionally autonomous and highly
autonomous vehicles存在动宾关系,又因为前面有情态动词must,故填be
equipped。
It's important to protect cultural heritage, because it's an important resource for the
study of human civilization and the root of a place.
The best-known cultural heritage site in our city is the Stone Monuments in a
temple, the earliest part of which dates back to the Tang Dynasty. The most amazing
thing is that after hundreds or even thousands of years, most of them are well
preserved and the words on them are still visible. These monuments are our roots and
give us a sense of belonging. We should make every effort to protect them and call on
more and more people to pay attention to the preservation of the cultural heritage.
第二节
答案:
However, I wasn't completely sure whether it was worthwhile. "I appreciate your
kind efforts, but don't you think your time could be better spent? And 99% of these
turtles don't have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells, are your
efforts really making an impact?" The lady laughed out loud, then looked up at me
and said, "Dear, if this little one could speak, he'd gladly tell you that my care towards
him makes a big difference in the world." Her words made me understand one
important lesson in life. Every little act of kindness counts.
"Can I help you clean the turtles?" I asked the lady. "Of course, you can," she
nodded and said with pleasure. She taught me patiently and told me how to make the
turtles clean again. "You should rub the shell of them gently, otherwise you will hurt
them," she reminded me. I picked up a little turtle, trying to imitate her and using the
