Dear Jim,
I’m Li Hua, head of Paper-cutting Club in our school. Learning that you’re interested in our club, it’s my
great honor to invite you to join us.
Founded in 2015, our club aims to offer a platform where students can learn, create and appreciate the
traditional art of paper-cutting. A wide variety of activities are held on a weekly basis, including workshops led by
experienced artists, exhibitions showcasing our members’ outstanding creations and visits to museums and art
galleries to deepen our understanding of this art form.
I’m convinced that our club will definitely be a journey to a cultural feast. Looking forward to your
participation.
Yours,
Li Hua

When Mrs.Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too. Then she said, “You may send
him the popcorn every Saturday morning, if you will pop the corn for him yourself.John, will you agree to take
charge of the work?” “Indeed, I will,” replied John, and he kept his word. Then the children were busy popping the
corn, while their mother went out to buy the paper bags. When she came back, she brought Bernard with her.Very
soon the paper bags were filled.
With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. And much sooner than he expected, he
returned with an empty basket.Never had he earned so much money. When he found that it was all to be his, he
was so delighted that he could hardly speak, but his bright smiling face spoke for him.People began to watch for
the “little popcorn boy”, and every week he had at least fifty cents to take home, and often more. All this was
because of John’s bright idea.

1.
M: Getting to work in the morning seems to take longer each day. I was late again this morning.
W: Are you still driving in?
M: Yes. The traffic was so bad in the morning. It’s just one traffic jam after another on the road.2.
W: I don’t know whether I can do this. It’s a long way down.
M: Don’t overthink it. All competitive swimmers need to learn how to dive. When you’ve done it
once, it won’t worry you in the future.
W: OK, here goes then. Wish me luck.
3.
M: Was your trip interesting? Did you have fun?
W: Nothing special. Everything was expensive there. There was only “interest”, nothing interesting.
4.
W: I usually have a cup of Earl Grey tea without milk. You like Yorkshire tea, right?
M: Yes, but for years I have been a firm believer in the fact that tea should be served with milk, which
can send us to sleep. By the way, except Peppermint tea, which goes well with lemon.
5.
M: We were so close to fitting everything into the apartment.
W: I know. Bringing the sofa inside was tough, but we can’t make this huge bed work.
M: I’m afraid we have to give up the bed. At least we can keep this old table.
6-7:
W: What are you going to do in Canada?
M: My lab is working together with a research station in Canada so I will work there for a long time.
W: How long will it take?
M: Three months, probably. It’ll depend on how everything is going.
W: It’s cold there. You may need some heavy clothes. Oh, this suitcase is probably too small.
M: Don’t worry! I do most of the work in the lab. But I do need a large suitcase. I’ll take a lot of
research materials with me.
W: So why don’t we go to the shop to get a larger suitcase?
M: OK. Let’s go.
11-13:
It’s quite incredible how a simple hobby can turn into a fulfilling and successful career. I want to
share my journey with you, starting from my love for photography. I used to take pictures of
landscapes and people during my free time. It was my way of capturing life’s beautiful moments and
expressing my creativity. Little did I expect that this passion would lead to a career. Over time, I
improved my skills by experimenting with various techniques and attending photography workshops.
Friends and family began to notice my talent and asked me to photograph their events. This was the
turning point. I
started doing small jobs like capturing(拍摄) weddings, parties, and special moments. Word of mouth
quickly spread, and soon, I was in demand as a photographer. As my client base expanded, so did my
confidence and ambition. I realized I could turn my hobby into a full-time career. However, this
journey had its challenges. The pressure of delivering perfect photos, the irregular income, and the
competition in the photography world tested my patience. Now, I’ve established my own photography
business, specializing in portrait(肖像) photography. I’ve traveled to beautiful places, met wonderful
people, and captured countless unforgettable moments. My future plans include exploring new types of
photography, teaching ambitious photographers, and continuing to find new ways to tell domestic
stories through my camera.
14-17:
Welcome, everyone. For the past month. I’ve been planning your English language course. So, I’m
very eager to start your class this afternoon. All week, we’ll be following a language program
developed by some of the world’s best teachers. I’ve benefited from learning this approach directly
from these language teachers, and I’ve taught students in business, political, and academic groups for
decades. With your dedicated attention and practice, you will greatly improve your language skills like
the thousands of students who have learned this course.
Now, the initial concepts are about goals, interests, and debates. While we first write down our
objectives, we’ll focus on what we want to gain from this class and how we’ll achieve it. Next, we’ll
make interest-based lesson plans. Think about how easily you learn about favorite topics. For me, this
topic is sports, but maybe for you, this favorite topic is art, music, etc. Just imagine the hours that
pass by while you’re learning something you’re passionate about. Now, we’ll try that in your target
foreign language. And after following a video and reading plans based on these interests, you’ll debate
these ideas in class.
This will be a great class, everyone. I can’t wait for all the learning and progress we’ll have together.
18-20:
Well, the next product I want to move onto is children’s toy. In this part of building, we manufacture
several different wooden toys. But the greatest demand is for our train sets. These are made up of ten
pieces and each piece is a different color. It’s a toy for the under-fives and it sells well. We
manufacture 1.000 of these every week. Over here, we put all the toys into boxes. Because this is aproduct for young children, everything has to be very carefully checked in advance. So the average
time it takes for packaging is 5 minutes per box.
We supply a lot of large department stores throughout the country. Orders are not constant, but go up
and down depending on what time of the year it is. So we try to keep about 1,000 boxes in storage at
any time. That’s the number that we have at the moment anyway. As I said, we deliver our children’s
toys to stores around the country. Outside, we’re just loading up the lorries which are going to set off
tomorrow. That’s November 3rd. then there won’t be another shipment until 10th, November.
