阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sherry Anne Lipski was born and raised in New York City. Sherry loved the city. It was her home. And most
of her closest friends lived just a few blocks away. She could call any of them and, in minutes, they could gather
together at the ice cream shop, pizza place, or one of the local playgrounds. When Sherry’s friends got a message
from her to meet at the playground, they knew what she wanted to do: play handball.
American handball is a popular game, most often played in cities, especially New York. It is kind of like tennis
except there is no net. Sherry could play handball for hours and hours. With that much practice, she became the best
player in her entire neighborhood, winning every time she walked onto a court. Her friends would challenge her,
even though knowing that they would definitely lose, but played anyway just to have some fun.
Toward the end of her fourth grade, her parents told Sherry some very upsetting news.
“Sherry, her mother began, worried that her daughter might cry.” Your father has been given a wonderful new
job by the company he works for.
“Yes, Sherry,” her father added. “I’m very excited about it. It’s a promotion, which means we can have a much
more comfortable life together.”
“OK...” Sherry was unsure why they were speaking to her in such a way when it sounded like good news.
Then it became clear.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
“Unfortunately,” her mother said, “we have to move to Pennsylvania where your father has been asked to
work.”
“We know that you’ll miss your New York home, Shey,” said her dad. “But you’re a wonderful young lady.
We know you will make some new friends there.”
Sherry began to cry right away. Her parents comforted her, but she drowned herself in sadness, especially
when she thought of saying goodbye to all of her childhood friends and the neighborhood where she grew up.

【答案】
Months later, Sherry was still depressed because she missed her hometown. She found that her new city was a
nice place and the other kids at school approached her friendly. Still, it did not feel like her home. She was in low
spirits and would not go out any longer, which worried her parents a lot. One day her schoolmate Tara asked her at
lunch time,” Sherry, what do you like to do for fun?” Sherry shook her head, assuming that none of her peers here
would know how to play handball. “I like playing tennis. You must like something!” Tara said with a bright smile.
“You play tennis?” Sherry couldn’t believe her ears. “Yes! I am a big fan of it.”
“Really?” Sherry was getting excited. She thought that maybe, just maybe, if she showed Tara how to play
handball, she could finally find the motivation to go outside again. After school, Sherry taught Tara all the rules.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
“That’s easy to play!” Tara said. “It’s just like tennis!” Tara was not very good at it at first, but with her ability to
play tennis, she made stunning progress. They played for two hours until they had to go home. “I’ll beat you
someday!” Tara shouted at Sherry as they departed, in a friendly tone. “Let’s wait and see,” Sherry replied with
great joy, realizing that she made a new best friend.

阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without
thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing
was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the
Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your
stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed
to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at
night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come
straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I
sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I
worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen
books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.”
I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the
enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

【答案】
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first
prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the
news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said
excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to
my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your
recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my
hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before,
but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written
many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life
on the road to writing.

Billy was 15 years old then. He grew up in a very poor neighborhood. No one in his family had gone to
college before. Actually, few people around him had received higher education. They all struggled to live a good
life. Therefore, Billy knew nothing about colleges or scholarships and he never thought he would go to college one
day. Although he was a smart boy, he didn’t study hard at school and often got into trouble with other teenagers in
his neighborhood.
One day, while Billy was walking on the playground, a boy of his age started making fun of him. Then that
boy pushed him hard and Billy fell onto the ground. Billy became so angry that he stood up and beat that boy. So a
fight began.
It happened that Billy’s English teacher Mr. Smith was walking nearby. He immediately ran to the boys to stop
the fight. Billy was a bit worried because he knew his teacher was very strict with students. He was afraid his
teacher would punish him. However, to his astonishment, his teacher didn’t do that.
“Billy, let’s have a talk,” said his teacher.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
Billy, not knowing what his teacher wanted to do, was very worried. But he nodded. So they went to a bench

your life now. Why don’t you study hard to go to college so that you can change your life and have a bright
future?”
Hearing that, Billy didn’t know what to say. He had never thought about it. Billy was in silence. Mr. Smith
continued, “I know you may have never thought about going to college. But everything is possible. When I was at

Then, one afternoon, shortly after the dismissal bell rang, Anthony approached me.”Could I talk to you a

James loved his mother very much. There were only three people in his house. A father, a mother and a James

As time goes on, one day James’s mother’s health took a turn for the worse. His mother went to the hospital,
but she was unable to come home alive. This broke James a lot from inside and he even stopped eating for several
days.
Seeing such condition of James, his father left him to live with his sister and himself went back to his village.
James wanted to know why his mother died. Time goes on. Now James was about 15 years old. Right now he
was studying class 10th. Since James was studying from the village, he does not have much knowledge yet. But one
day he learned that doctors can help. They can heal any sick person. Now this thing settled in James’s mind.
Now he wanted to study and became a doctor. He told this to his sister and his father. James’s father was
overjoyed to listen that his son wanted to become a doctor, but at the same time he started thinking that it would
take a lot of money to study a doctor.
“Where will all this money come from?” James told his father the solution to the problem. He said, “Father! If
I have studied 10 and 12 well, then I can study in a good government college for free, but for this I have to leave
my village and go to some city and study.”
Hearing this, James’ father said, “Son! For this I will mortgage (抵押) all my land”. And it happened. James’
father mortgaged all his land. Then he sent James to the city. James came to town for the first time. Here he saw a
variety of things and styles. Seeing this, he deviated (偏离) from his main goal.
Now he did not feel like studying. Then he befriended a girl. He considered that girl as his life. This was how

Middle school is a rough period of life for many of us. And it can feel like the end of the world if you’re the
target of school’s mean girls.
Jennifer knew this feeling all too well. When she was in middle school, she was often teased by other kids.
Her classmates made fun of her social awkwardness and unfashionable clothes. Then the bullying escalated (升级)
to a whole new level in seventh grade when three girls started targeting Jennifer almost every day.
“They would wait for me in the hallway at the end of class so that they could start picking on (欺负) me right
away.” Jennifer said. “And they would corner me in this area of the school called ‘the draw off ’ where they would
kind of form a ring around me and insult me.”
Jennifer didn’t know what to do to defend herself. So, she’d just repeat back what the girls said to her.
The rest of the school year went on like this. Jennifer’s grades suffered. During the summer between seventh
and eighth grade, the ringleader of the group that had targeted her transferred to another school. “I did hold out
some hope that this might mean that eighth grade could be different,” Jennifer said.
That hope lasted just a few days into the new school year when Jennifer discovered that the group had a new
ringleader—Anna, who had just moved to Jennifer’s school. The bullying quickly resumed (重新开始), and it
seemed like eighth grade would be much like seventh.
But about six weeks into the school year, something happened. Jennifer was in the locker room, and she was
by herself because she had waited for everyone else to leave so she could change in private. Just then, she heard a

During my high school years, my math teacher, Mrs. Zhang, noticed a spark in me whenever I tackled
complex mathematical problems. She had been observing my progress throughout the year and was particularly
impressed with my talent in abstract reasoning. One day, after class, she approached me with an intriguing
proposal: to represent the school in a regional mathematics competition. Instantly, I hesitated and my mind raced
back to a traumatic event from my primary school years-a quiz bee where I had frozen on stage, forgetting
everything I had prepared. The memory had stayed with me and left me with a fear of competitive scenarios. Mrs.
Zhang seemed to sense my reservations and said, “Life is about facing our fears. Every challenge you encounter is
an opportunity to grow. I truly believe you have what it takes to shine.” With her words echoing in my ears and her
unwavering belief as a driving force, I decided to face my past demons and take on the competition.
The theme for this year was geometry, a branch of mathematics that explores the dimensions of shapes and
their features. My chosen topic was a complex theorem, known for its complicated patterns and strong logic.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
Although a challenging task, the theorem resonated with me deeply. I saw it as a metaphor for life-seemingly
complex situations that, with the right perspective, could be simplified and understood. The following weeks were a
blur of numbers, shapes, and formulas. I immersed myself in libraries, wrote notes everywhere, and had endless
discussions with Mrs. Zhang. My first draft, when presented to her, was met with constructive feedback. “This is a
recommendable effort,” she said, “but I believe you can do better. Refine it.” And so, again and again, my
presentation evolved. Through this rigorous process, my once paralyzing fear of competition slowly transformed
into a burning passion for understanding and exploration.

A Hearty Welcome
Chase counted his new year gifts one more time as he put a robot-shaped eraser into each envelope. “Twenty,
twenty-one, twenty-two.”
“Do you have one for everyone in your class?” Mom asked.
“Yep!” Chase said. “I’m ready for the party tomorrow!”
When Chase got to school the next day, he saw a new girl in his classroom. She stood near Ms. Robins and更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
looked around shyly.
“This is Eva,” said Ms. Robins. “Will someone volunteer to show her around today? “Chase raised his hand
since he liked showing the new kids around and helping them feel welcome.
“Thanks, Chase, “Ms. Robins said. “Now let’s get down to our work.”
That’s when Chase realized he didn’t have a new year gift for Eva. No one else would have one either. Chase
pictured his classmates’ desks covered with gifts while Eva’s desk was empty. He felt sad about that.
At a break, he was careful not to mention the party as he showed Eva around the playground. At lunchtime, he
walked Eva to the lunchroom, still worried about what would happen at the party. Eva had brought a packed lunch.
so Chase showed her where she was supposed to sit and introduced her to some of the kids at her table.
While eating, Chase suddenly remembered that kids often included candy hearts with the new year gifts they
exchanged. This won’t be a New Year’s Day for Eva with no gifts. But as he sat down at his table, an idea flooded
into his head. He whispered it to the kids around him. Soon everyone at the table was nodding and whispering.
When they were back in the classroom after lunch, Chase told Ms. Robins about their plan. Ms. Robins
smiled. “That’s very thoughtful, “she said. “Let’s go for it.”
It was math time, so Chase invited Eva to study with him. He made sure Eva sat with her back to the room so
she wouldn’t notice.

There is a story from many years ago of a primary school teacher. Her name was Rose.
On the first day of school, as Rose looked out over her new fifth grade class, her attention was immediately
drawn to two boys, Mark and Charlie. Mark had a high energy that filled the room, his voice echoing even in casual
conversations. He laughed loudest and answered questions with enthusiasm that was impossible to ignore. Charlie,
Mark’s partner-in-crime, had a naughty grin and a twinkle in his eyes. Together, they were perfect.
While Mark would com mand attention with his tales, Charlie would comment cleverly, making the whole
class burst into laughter. Rose could already tell that these two would keep her on her toes. She smiled to herself,
though, ready for an eventful year ahead. She knew she had to find a way to channel their energy positively, turning
their enthusiasm into a driving force for learning.
One day, Rose had a unique assignment for her students. She asked them to list each classmate's name on two
sheets, leaving gaps between. Next, she instructed them to write down the nicest thing they could think of for each
student. The assignment consumed the whole period. As they left, each student handed in their papers.
Over the weekend, Rose wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, creating individual
lists for every student. On Monday, she handed out the lists. Soon, happiness spread across the room. Mark, known
for his naughty behavior, looked astonished. “I had no idea I mattered to anyone,” he whispered, visibly moved.
Beside him, Charlie, Mark’s partner- in-crime, said similarly.“I never realized others thought so highly of me.”
No one ever mentioned those lists in class again. Rose never found out if they discussed them after class or
with their parents, but it didn't matter.

Thirty years has passed, I still remember Miss Benson, my second-grade teacher. At that time, she was in her
early 20s and just graduated from a university. She was the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful creature that ever
walked the earth. I could not bear to miss one precious moment of her presence by leaving the room.
I was among the most hard-working students in the class. My hand was always the first to be raised when Miss
Benson called for volunteers to clean the blackboards or to gather papers and bring them to her desk. That was the
best chore of all. It made possible getting near enough to her to close out the others in the classroom. I would
arrange and rearrange the papers. They had to be in perfect order before I made my reluctant way back to my seat.
It was obvious that all I did was to leave a good impression on her. I would always wonder whether I was her
favourite student.
Early in the term, I started asking my mother to put an extra apple or peach in my lunch. I never quite worked
up the courage to say it was for my teacher, as I never quite worked up the courage to hand my offering to Miss
Benson directly. Each day the delicacy found its way unobserved to the corner of her desk. And each day after Miss
Benson came in and sat down, she would pick up the offering of the day, look around the room and ask, “What
thoughtful little boy or girl brought me this?”
No one claimed the honour, least of all me. I kept my head down, looking at my desk.
“Can it be that I have a secret admirer?” She would then add.
Thinking everyone was looking at me, I would feel the red rising in my face. When Miss Benson put the fruit
away and started the lesson, I would at last sigh with relief.
One fall morning, the class got very excited. Someone had discovered the next day, Friday, was Miss Benson’s
birthday. Everyone wanted to get her a present. My heart gave a leap, for after about one month I could give her
something openly. After school, I combed the field for wild flowers. Not many were in bloom at that time of year,
but luckily I came upon a patch of pretty red leaves.
