Teaching students to become good people who help their communities and the world is hard, but our favorite
books show how it can be done. We hope you find a book that supports, challenges, and always inspires you in the
new year.
Mindfulness and Self-Compassion
Jamie Lynn Tatera
Do your students need help in managing their emotions as they grow? This book is full of colorful drawings,
comics, and activities that teach mindfulness and self-compassion in a fun way. Children learn about resilience
through animal characters on a quest through different lands like connection, freedom, and forgiveness. They discover
how to handle their tricky emotions with kindness. — Margaret Golden
Poetry Comics
Grant Snider
This beautifully illustrated picture book is divided into seasons, celebrating the rhythms of the year. The comics
are funny and relatable for both kids and adults, turning simple moments into amazing experiences. The book also
includes “How to Write a Poem” comics, which inspired my eight-year-old daughter to write her own poem. It’s a
great way to make learning poetry fun and inspiring for teachers and parents. — Lauren Lee

lives are different from their own.” Theatre opened up the world for me, and I am grateful for this book. — Vicki

Recently, Feng Zhiliang is popular on the Internet because of a video shared online by a passenger. In the video,
he adeptly announces bus stops in both Chinese and English. Some online users said, “It’s like experiencing a flight
for just two yuan!”
Feng Zhiliang,43 years old, has been working for the Handan Public Transport Group for 15 years. When did
he start announcing bus stops in two languages? It started when Feng welcomed a foreign passenger with “Hello.
Happy New Year!” during the Spring Festival. Encouraged by the passenger’s enthusiastic (热情的) response, Feng
decided to make a change.
Feng’s English learning began almost from the very event—he joined online courses, searched for many kinds
of English materials, and used translation software to study whenever he could. After dropping off the last set of
passengers each day, Feng would return home and finish his chores around 9: 00 pm. Despite his long day, he wouldstill keep studying for another hour. Even the 20-minute break during the day at the bus station was not wasted. After
three years of hard work and preparation, and encouraged by his colleagues, Feng began making bilingual (双语的)
announcements during the evening rush hour, when there were the most passengers, starting in early 2023.
Feng recalled, “I was actually a bit nervous when I tried it for the first time, but you have to take that first step.
After that run, many people gave me thumbs-up and supported me. So I feel that I should persist and make bilingual
announcements one of my goals. It’s also one of my wishes.”
After a year and a half of employing bilingual announcements, Feng has many fans. Numerous passengers
intentionally choose to board the No.38 bus under his guidance, while some parents bring their children to experience
the enriching bilingual environment.
4. What motivated Feng Zhiliang to start announcing bus stops in both Chinese and English?
A. The encouragement from his colleagues at Handan Public Transport Group.

C. A foreign passenger’s enthusiastic response to his greeting.
D. The wish to attract more passengers to take the No.38 bus.
5. Why did Feng Zhiliang continue studying English even after a long day of work?
A. To make use of his spare time effectively.
B. To improve his English skills for better communication with international passengers.
C. To find English courses online very interesting.
D. To achieve his goal of making bilingual announcements his life’s purpose.
6. Which fact can be referred to as"determined" based on the context of Feng Zhiliang’s story?

Teaching is a difficult job. The ultimate reward is knowing that you have the opportunity to have an impact on
a young person’s life. However, not every student is created equal. There are students who possess certain characteristicsthat make them ideal pupils. These students are naturally endearing to teachers, and it is difficult not to embrace
them because they make a teacher’s job easier. Here are some traits (特点) all great students possess.
Good students aren’t afraid to ask questions because they know that if they do not get a particular concept, it
could hurt them later on when that skill is expanded. Asking questions is often beneficial to the class as a whole
because chances are if you have that question, there are other students who have that same question.
The perfect student isn’t necessarily the smartest student. Teachers love students who choose to work hard no
matter what their level of intelligence is. Being a hard worker in school means completing assignments on time,
putting your maximum effort into every assignment, asking for extra help when you need it, spending the time to
study for tests and quizzes, and recognizing weaknesses and looking for ways to improve.
The best students are the ones who are motivated to be successful. Students who are motivated to learn are easy
to teach. They want to be at school, want to learn, and want to succeed. Motivation means different things to different
people. There are very few people who aren’t motivated by something. Good teachers will figure out how to motivate
most students in some way, but those students who are self-motivated are far easier to reach than those who aren’t.
Being trustworthy is a quality that will make you popular not only with your teachers but also with your
classmates. No one wants to surround themselves with people whom they ultimately cannot trust. Teachers love
students and classes that they trust because they can give them liberties that often provide learning opportunities they
would not be afforded otherwise.
8. What does the underlined word “endearing” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Challenging. B. Lovable. C. Intelligent. D. Demanding
9. How can a student become a hard worker?
A. By ignoring assignments but studying for final tests.
B. By putting little effort into tests and avoiding extra help.
C. By recognizing strengths and avoiding weaknesses.
D. By finishing tasks on time and trying to improve.
10. What does the author try to emphasize in Paragraph 4?
A. The importance of motivation for students’ learning.
B. The difficulty of motivating uninterested students.
C. The responsibility of teachers to motivate students.
D. The difference between motivated and unmotivated students.
11. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as one of the traits of great students?
A. They ask questions. B. They’re the smartest.
C. They’re hard workers. D. They’re trustworthy.D
Dr. Michelle Lim is on a mission. She’s the chair of Ending Loneliness Together, a non-profit organization. Dr.
Michelle Lim is considered one of Australia’s leading scientific experts on loneliness. She feels driven to help people
who experience it.
That doesn’t mean she’s trying to remove it. “It’s important for people to know that it’s natural for us to feel
lonely; we all get lonely at some point in our lives,” she says. “What’s not helpful is when we stay lonely.”
While loneliness is common, Lim says certain groups are more vulnerable (易受伤的). These include people
aged under 25 or older than 55, those who are single, those from a lower socioeconomic background and people
with a chronic disease.
But persistent loneliness can affect anyone. Kylie knows that first-hand. She was 38and had just given birth to
her second baby when she felt the heavy blow of deep loneliness as she struggled with postnatal (分娩后的)
depression.
At the time, her older child was in the process of being diagnosed with autism (自闭症). And Kylie was drowning
under the pressure of running her business while functioning on little sleep. She had plenty of support around her.
But she felt no one understood her struggles. With her hands so full, she didn’t think it was possible to feel alone.
But, she discovers, loneliness does not only happen to people who are isolated. It’s about feeling deeply disconnected
from others.
There are a number of measures you can take if you’re struggling with persistent loneliness, says Lim. But
there’s no quick fix.
The first step, she says, is to try to overcome any fears about seeking help. But it can be easier said than done.
“We haven’t quite got a healthy way of speaking about it,” she said.
Next, Lim suggests trying to make meaningful connections. You might feel lonely because you don’t trust others.
Or perhaps you are worried that other people won’t like you.
Talking to a trusted friend or health professional about these feelings can help you work through them.
12. What is Dr. Lim’s primary attitude to loneliness?
.
A Loneliness should be completely removed through medical treatment.
B. Only isolated individuals need to worry about loneliness.
C. Feeling lonely is natural, but persistent loneliness requires intervention.
D. Loneliness can be cured by financial support alone.
13. Which group is NOT mentioned as being more vulnerable to loneliness?
A. People diagnosed with chronic diseases. B. Individuals over 55 years old.
C. High-income professionals. D. Single parents.14. Why did Kylie feel lonely despite having support?
A. She lacked practical help with childcare.
B. She believed no one understood her struggles.
.
C Her business required constant travel.
D. Her children refused to communicate with her.
15. What should be done primarily according to Dr. Lim for addressing persistent loneliness?
A. Taking antidepressant medication immediately.
B. Joining online communities secretly.
C. Organizing large social gatherings.
D. Defeating fears of asking for help.

Do cats and dogs really hate each other? Are cats and dogs really enemies? Well, the short answer is no. In
fact, studies show that with enough socializing and exposure, cats and dogs can become friendly with each other.
___16___
The introduction should be gradual. Introducing your pet to a new pet or even a newborn baby should be a
gradual process. Don’t simply put them into the same room together. That’s a disaster. ___17___ For example, let
them sniff and get familiar with the scent of a new animal. You can do this by letting them meet on opposite sides
of a closed door.
Give both pets their own space. ___18___ Especially, a cat requires her own safe space she can escape to
whenever the new dog gets too excited and starts chasing her around. Since cats love the height, you can make use
of wall shelves or tall cat trees for this purpose.
___19___ Give them equal time. Do dogs get jealous? Yes! Dogs get jealous when you pay attention to other
pets instead of them. On the other hand, we all know cats rarely get jealous. They do, however, suffer from
separation anxiety. Therefore, it is clear that to make your pets get along well, you need to give them equal
attention, time, and love.
Don’t make them fight for food and toys. Pets will fight if they regard other animals in the house as
competitors for their resources. This includes food and toys. ___20___ Likewise for toys.
,
As opposed to popular belief cats and dogs actually do not hate each other. In fact, they can get along pretty
well if they’ve been socialized from a young age.
A. Don’t make your pets jealous.B. So, you have the green light to bring that adorable puppy you’ve always wanted!
C. Make sure to feed both the cat and the dog separately so they don’t fight over food.
D. Never leave your cat and a new dog home alone.
E. But it would be best if you took out some time to learn the best way to introduce your cat to a new pet.
F. You have to give them their own space.
G. Instead, make sure you let them know about each other’s presence indirectly at first.

At 16 years old, Sam had always strived to be a good student, working hard to earn grades that would please his
parents. Neither of his parents had the chance to go to college, and they dreamed of Sam becoming a lawyer more
than anything else. Although he understood how much this meant to them, deep down, Sam wasn’t certain if it was
what he wanted for himself.
Ever since he was young, Sam had harbored a deep interest in computer programming. By teaching himself, he
became proficient with computers and mastered three different programming languages by the time he turned 12 —
all during his free moments. Preferring being alone, Sam enjoyed spending time on his computer rather than socializing
or participating in sports. His parents were okay with this arrangement as long as his academic performance didn’t
suffer.
One day, while browsing an article about Thomas O’Connor, a tech entrepreneur who had become a billionaire,
Sam’s life took an unexpected turn. In the piece, O’Connor mentioned that his company was developing a new online
payment system but faced challenges with its security features. If these could be resolved, their system could
revolutionize online business worldwide. Realizing he might have a solution, Sam decided to email the CEO,
introducing himself and sharing his thoughts. He didn’t expect much from this gesture and soon returned to his daily routines and studies. To his surprise, a
month later, Sam received a reply directly from Thomas O’Connor. The CEO expressed his enthusiasm for Sam’s
idea and invited him to visit America to discuss it further. Though acknowledging Sam still needed to complete his
education, O’Connor promised a job opportunity upon graduation. Overjoyed yet conflicted, Sam now faced a tough
decision: Should he share the news with his parents, risking disappointment of their dreams for him, or should he
decline this incredible offer? It was a challenging choice to make.
注意:
1. 所续写短文词数应为150左右。
2. 续写分为两段,每段开头语已经给出。

【47题答案】
【答案】Sam sat in his room, the email from Thomas O’Connor open on his screen. His heart was pounding with a
mixture of excitement and dread. He had always followed the path laid out by his parents, but now, an unexpected
door had opened, revealing a world full of possibilities. The thought of pursuing his passion filled him with a thrilling
sense of freedom, yet the fear of disappointing his parents weighed heavily on him. Could he really turn his back on
their dreams? After all, they had sacrificed so much for him.
Taking a deep breath, Sam decided to share the news with his parents. He was prepared for their reaction. Tohis surprise, instead of anger or disappointment, their faces lit up with curiosity as he explained his passion for
programming and the opportunity before him. They realized how this could fulfill their son’s true potential. With
tears in their eyes, they embraced Sam, expressing pride in his achievements and giving their blessing for him to
pursue his dreams. At that moment, Sam felt an overwhelming relief and gratitude, knowing he could chase his
ambitions without losing familial love.
