Version 1:
So I went to Mrs. Johnson’s office after class. “Mrs. Johnson, I, uh, I’d like to talk with you
about my writing.” I stammered, my voice barely rising above a whisper. Smiling, she got up
from her chair, patted me on the shoulder and said gently, “OK, what’s your problem?” Her
warm smile melted my nervousness. I poured out all my puzzles about writing, which she
explained one by one patiently. She also told me writing, like any other skill, was something I
could get better at with time and practice. She even promised to tutor me after class on a regular
basis.
The after-class instructions continued for months until the Year Writing Contest came. Mrs.
Johnson encouraged me to enter for it, but I hesitated—I wasn’t ready for a contest. Seeing my
lack of motivation, she said only those who dared to fail greatly could achieve greatly. Waking

experience helped me understand Mrs. John’s remark “writing was an art”. After that, I was
really into writing and never stopped it, which I owed to the guidance of my dear teacher Mrs.
Johnson.

instructions had greatly aroused my interest in writing and boosted my confidence. As Mrs.
Johnson said, when you had a dream, you just grabbed it and never let go. To my greatest joy, I
won the first prize. After that, I was really into writing and understood that writing was an art,
