I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside her. Quietly I asked what was wrong. “Oh, nothing,” came a soft reply. “I am just too short.” The coach told her that at 5’5” she would probably never get to play for a top ranked team—much less offered a scholarship—so she should stop dreaming about college. She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment. I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet. She lifted her head from her hands and told me that her father said those coaches were wrong. “My father said they just did not understand the power of a dream.” “Crace,” I said, “What your father told you is right. Nothing could stop you except one thing– your own attitude.” Looking directly into my eyes, she said, “You’re right. I’m not going to let this stop me.” She got up and walked back towards the court. I watched as she picked up the basketball and began to shoot again. She continued to work hard and believed in herself. In the end, she received a full scholarship to play college basketball and became one of the best players on her team. She made me firmly believe if the dream is big enough, the facts don’t count. 高三英语答案 第 2 页 共 2 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司
