M:Let’s look for the records.I put some new records in the window yesterday.I took the Bream records out and put them on that shelf.Yes,the records are there on the shelf. W:How much are these three? M:They’re four pounds fifty. Text 8 W:Oh,dear! M:I’m sorry,I do hope I haven’t hurt you. W:Oh,no,I was just a little startled.That’s all right.It’s quite all right. M:But it isn’t all right.Look,I’ve made you drop your shopping bags.Let me pick these bags up.W:You must have been in a great hurry.Please don’t stop. M:I was only going to catch the bus.I’m afraid I wasn’t looking where I was going.I don’t think anything is de- stroyed. W:Oh,no.Thank you very much. M:I do apologize. M:Very funny.I was at the bookstore the whole day.After Christmas many books that were not popular were on sale.And I picked up so many really interesting ones.Take a look. W:“Speak Chinese”,“Introduction to Asia”“Arts and Culture”.Are you planning to get a job in Asia? M:Well,they are all interesting but I bought these books because they were worth the money.I couldn’t afford them if they were new.If you help me carry them I’ll let you have one. W:I’d certainly like to pick one.Now let me help you. Text 10 Robert is nine years old and Joanna is seven.They live at Mount Ebenezer.Their father has a big property.In Australia they call a farm a property.Robert and Joanna like school very much.At school they can talk to their friends,but Robert and Joanna can’t see their friends.They live perhaps 300 miles away and,like Robert and Joanna,they all go to school by radio.Mount Ebenezer is in the center of Australia,but not many people live in“the center”.There are no schools with desks and blackboards and no teachers in“the center”.School is a room at home with a two-way radio.The teacher also has a two-way radio.Every morning she calls each student on the radio. When all the students answer,the lessons begin.Think of your teacher 300 miles away!
