In most parts of the United States,Friday night is the big supermarket night, probably
because Friday is pay day at many factories and companies. Most housewives do their
weekend shopping on either Friday or Saturday, although supermarkets in many places are
now open on Sunday as well.
At almost all supermarkets there are shopping carts with special spaces for babies. In
the early days, before carts appearing, store managers noticed that as soon as a shopper had
her arms full of goods, she stopped buying. So the carts were introduced, and later spaces
for babies were added. With her baby sitting comfortably in the cart,a mother feels less
need to hurry through the store, and probably buys. The average American housewife is
said to go to the supermarket twice a week, and on average will spend one to two hours
there each week.
