M:I’ve got to go home and look after Mary.

M:No,she was downtown on West Street this afternoon and there was a robbery.I think it was one
of those banks.
W:Oh,that’s been happening a lot lately. What happened to Mary?
M:Well,she saw the whole thing.Two men robbed the bank,and then got into a gunfight with the
police.
W:Oh,no! Was anyone hurt?
M:Oh,one man was shot and killed.
W:Not one of the robbers?
M:No,a boy about Mary’s age.He was just next to Mary.So you can see why she is upset.W:And these men got away?
M:Ah.Escaped in a passing taxi.They are probably in another country now.

M:Do you want me to be honest?
W:Of course.
M:I was bored to death.What a funny art form! I never want to do that again.
W:Huh,how can you say that?It was beautiful.You just saw one of my favorite operas.
M:I’m sorry.I know you like opera.But it just isn’t for me.I’d rather read a novel or watch a
movie.
W:But you don’t know how to appreciate opera.That’s the problem.
M:What you’re saying may be true.But listen,I know that story.Remember?
W:Yes,I know.You wrote a paper on the poem in the university.It was a medieval poem,wasn’t it?
M:Yes.So I know the story very well. But I thought the opera was boring.W:But Waggner is a great artist.
M:I’m sorry.I just think the whole thing is showy.The singing is much too overdone.

Good morning.I’m Susie Johnson and I’m a member of the Hermosa Tourist board.Today I’m
going to talk about our proposal for a new holiday centre on the island.
First of all,how will visitors get to our island?In the past,the ferry was the only
option.Well,now we plan to build a new airport to the south of Bellavista instead of a ferry.
Secondly,the location.We have decided the best location for the holiday centre is the north of
the ancient monuments.The monuments are the most famous sight on the island and will attract
the most tourists.A car park will be near the stones.We are also going to build a visitor’s centre
with a museum,a shop,a restaurant and a cafe.
Then it brings me to accommodation.Where are all these visitors going to stay?There will be
two options on Hermosa:a new three-star hotel and a new four-star hotel.
To sum up,the holiday centre will improve our island’s economy and finally make Hermosa
famous.
