M:Excuse me,can I exchange this green sweater I bought this morning for a blue one?
W:Yes.But the blue sweater is $ 17.20 and the green one is only $ 10.
(2)
M:How often should the medicine be taken?
W:Once every other hour.
(3)
M:I wonder if you will be free Saturday night.I’ve got two tickets for a concert.
W:Thanks.It’s very nice of you.But I must go to a birthday party.(4)
W:What are you doing,John?
M:I’m trying to draw a horse.
W:It’s quite a nice horse! But please don’t play with my chalk.
M:Sorry!I won’t do it again,Miss Wang.
(5)
W:I went to my hometown this summer and I met a lot of my friends.Where did you go?
M:I went to my hometown, too. But I didn’t visit my friends.I visited my primary school teacher.
(6)
M:Hi,Wang.You like the weather here?
W:Well,I’d like to live somewhere a little further north or south from here.
M:Why?I personally think it’s just right.
W:Well,I find it too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
M:But if you live in the south or north, you will have either a much hotter summer or a much
colder winter.
W:But in the south,at least you have a warm winter. And in the north, summer is short and cool at
night, while winter is not so bad with heating.

M:Jane,I hear that you are leaving school now. What do you want to do?Have you made up your
mind yet?
W:No,not yet.But I think I’m going to take up singing.M:Any special reasons?
W:Yes.It’s because I am good at singing. All my classmates say so.Besides, singing is quite
interesting and you will meet a lot of people.
M:And you will have to please them too.
W:Well, you do in any job, don’t you?
M:And what do your parents think about it?
W:They don’t quite agree with me.That’s the only trouble.
M:Have they got any other plans for you, then?
W:Yes,um…they try to send me to art college because they want me to be an actress.
M:Then what will you do?
W:Er…I haven’t decided yet.But I usually get my own way in the end.

M:Oh,come in.
W:I just dropped in to return these books. Are you getting dinner ready?Something smells good.
M:Oh,I’m just preparing some noodles.
W:I thought your wife did the cooking.
M:She does, but she said she would come home late today.
W:So you’re the cook. What are you having with the noodles?
M:Some cabbage and tomatoes. Why don’t you stay and have dinner with us?
W:Thanks, but not today.Maybe some other time.I have to hurry off.
(9)
M:You don’t look too happy. What seems to be the problem?
W:I’ve got to write a long composition for my English class, and I just can’t come up with anyidea, and it’s due tomorrow.
M:That shouldn’t be too difficult.Remember those pictures you showed me last week? The ones
from your voyage last winter?
W:Sure.I’ve got them here some place.
M:Why don’t you write about your impressions of the pyramids in Egypt and the camel ride you
took?
W:That sounds like a good idea.I can also tell about our visit to North Africa, the Holy Land, and
all of the historical places we visited.
M:Well, now that you’re feeling better about this,I think I’ll be on my way.I’ve got to finish my
composition too.
W:Thanks for your help.Once I get it organized,it won’t be so difficult.

There’s a holiday next week and I can’t decide what to do.I have a lot of work to do at
home, and this would be a good chance to do it.But I’d rather not spend the holiday that way.I can
work at home all the rest of the year.
Last year I went north to the mountains.Everything was beautiful, but it is too cold this time of
year. And it’s really too far to go for a short holiday.I have decided that this is not a good time to
go to the mountains. But I do want to go someplace.
Perhaps this would be a good chance to go to the beach.I like to go for walks along the seashore
in the warm sunshine and watch the water. It’s only about eighty miles and I could get there in
about two hours. After thinking it over,I’m sure that this is a better time for the seashore than the
mountains.
I guess I’ll plan to go to the beach next week.
