One day,John was doing shopping in the market when he noticed a beautiful young lady.She
was beautifully dressed and he watched her as she walked from shop to shop looking at the fruit
and vegetables for sale. “She looks like a film star, ”John thought to himself.Suddenly,a man ran
through the crowd and snatched the woman’s handbag. She screamed but the man disappeared
with the bag before anyone could stop him.John wanted to help the woman,so he ran as quickly as
he could to the nearest phone box.Thank goodness,it was free!Then he dialed 911. “Please come
to the Market Square at once!A thief has just run away with a lady’s handbag!”he told the
police.He had just got back to calm down the woman when the police arrived.But to his
surprise,the thief had also returned and was talking to the woman.Not until then did John realize
that they were only making a film.

In the doctor’s waiting room,sick people were sitting on their chairs.Jack,a schoolboy,was
among them.They all looked sad except Jack.He was reading an interesting story in a book.Just
then the doctor came in and said he was ready for the next person.Jack jumped up and ran into the
doctor’s room.“What’s wrong with you?”asked the doctor.Before Jack could say a word,the doctor made him
lie down on a bed. “Now let me listen to your heart.”Jack tried to speak,but the doctor told him
not to say anything. “I’m going to take your temperature.”Jack tried to sit up,but the doctor
stopped him.A moment later,the doctor went on, “Well,boy,you don’t have a fever.In fact,there’s
nothing wrong with you.”
“I know there isn’t,”said Jack, “I just came here to get a bottle of medicine for my granny!”

The job interview is the moment of truth in job hunting.In addition to how the interviewer
sees your qualifications and personal qualities,much will depend on how they evaluate your
interview performance in general.Therefore,it is helpful to consider it a performance or a game
whose goal is to sell the interviewer on the idea that you are the best person for the job.
Most people take a passive approach to an interview,answering whatever questions they are
asked.A better approach is to take control and give the interviewer what you want to give,not
necessarily what they are trying to find out;inspire confidence—to give the interviewer every
reason to believe that you can handle the job for which you are being considered and little to
believe you can’t.You do this with more than the answer you provide. Confidence is also inspired
by the way you look,the enthusiasm,energy,confidence,personal ability and ambition you show or
don’t show.
The main reason most candidates don’t get the job is that they don’t inspire confidence.The
reason they lose out is not because they don’t have the qualifications to do the job but because
their confidence in their ability to do the job didn’t come through in the interview.They didn’t sell
themselves well enough because they were nervous and felt great pressure to perform.
