3. W:What’s the matter? Are you hurt?M:I slipped on the stairs and fell down.I think my arm is broken.
W:Let me see.I don’t think it’s broken,but we are going to see the doctor right now.
4. M:Excuse me.Do you know where the post office is?
W:Of course.Go to the corner and turn right.Walk one block and turn right again.The post
office is on the corner.
5. M:Can I take a message for Wang Ming?
W:Thank you very much.Please tell him to give Dong Jin a call when he gets back.He has my
number.

M:Hi,Sue,how’s it going?
W:Oh,Frank.Just fine.How are your classes?
M:Pretty good.I’m glad this is my last term here,though.
W:Why is that? I thought you were enjoying school.
M:I was,but now I’m getting tired of it. I’m ready for the real world.
W:What are you planning to do when you graduate?M:First I want to travel a little,and then get a good job as a computer expert.
W:Sounds good.I still have three terms to go before I graduate.
M:You’ll make it! Well,see you later.

M:Oh,nothing special.I’m just thinking a lot.
W:About the job?
M:About everything,about catching the same train every morning,sitting in the same office all
day,watching the same television programs…
W:You need a holiday.

W:How do you mean?
M:Well,our great-great-grandfathers had more fun,didn’t they? I mean,they hunted for their food

M:Normally it’s by 12 at noon on the day you leave.
W:Well,you see,my plane doesn’t go till half past five tomorrow afternoon.
M:I see.Which room is it,madam?
W:Room 577,my name is Browning.
M:Ah,yes,Mrs Browning.You may keep your room then till 2 pm,if you wish.
W:Oh,that’s nice.By the way,how long will it take to get to the airport from here?
M:It’s usually a 90-minute ride.But you’d better set off at 2:30 in case there is a traffic jam on the
way.

A man was tired of living in his house.He wanted to sell it and buy a better one.He had tried
to sell it for a long time,but it was not successful.So at last,he decided to solve the problem by
using an agent.
The agent soon put an advertisement in a magazine.A few days later,the owner saw a very
attractive photograph of the house,with a wonderful description of its gardens,in an expensive
magazine.
After the house owner had read the advertisement,though,he at once telephoned the agent and
said to him, “I’m sorry,Jones,but I’ve decided not to sell my house after all.Aft er reading your
advertisement in that magazine,I can see that it’s just the kind of house I’ve wanted to live in all
my life. ”

Joe Jones was born in 1931.As a boy,he had a dream of becoming a doctor.But in 1948,when
he was 17,he had to work to help support his family.Joe worked in construction,on the railroad,and
served in the army for over ten years.Then he worked in his hometown of Philadelphia for 20
years.But he still kept his dream of going back to school.In 1979,at the age of 48,Joe decidedto make his dream come true.He finished high school and became a student in the Community
College of Philadelphia,where he took all the math courses he could.In 1981,after earning a degree
at the Community College,he was admitted to study computers and maths in the University of
Pennsylvania.In 1986,he completed his work on his master’s degree.Today at 56,Joe is studying
for his doctor’s degree.His dream is coming true.
