范文
Exercise Is Medicine
Nowadays, there exists a heated debate over whether exercise can be regarded as effective medicine. A majority of people hold the view that “exercise is medicine”, while some others argue that over-exercise brings harm instead of health. From my perspective, proper physical activity acts as natural medicine, yet improper training may damage human bodies.
Those who support the statement that exercise is medicine have solid medical evidence to back their opinion. First of all, regular moderate exercise functions as a cure for multiple chronic diseases. Doctors confirm that jogging, swimming and yoga can lower blood pressure, regulate blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart disease. Unlike chemical medicine with side effects, exercise improves physical condition in a gentle and sustainable way. Secondly, exercise works as psychological medicine to relieve mental illnesses. Modern people suffer from heavy stress, anxiety and depression due to fierce work competition. When people work out, their bodies release endorphins, a kind of hormone that lifts moods and calms negative emotions. Besides, consistent exercise strengthens immunity. People who keep working out seldom catch colds or get infected easily, which helps them cut down reliance on medical treatment.
Nevertheless, opponents claim exercise is not always beneficial, and excessive exercise equals poison. For one thing, blind high-intensity training causes physical injuries. Amateur athletes who run dozens of kilometers every day often suffer from knee damage, muscle strain or joint inflammation, which forces them to take painkillers and receive rehabilitation therapy. For another, some people exercise without scientific plans. Working out on an empty stomach or staying up late to do sports disturbs metabolism, triggering fatigue and sleep disorders. In this case, exercise brings extra health troubles rather than healing effects.
In conclusion, exercise itself is natural and cheap medicine, but its medical value lies in moderation and science. People should combine light aerobic exercise with sufficient rest according to their physical conditions. Only by mastering proper workout methods can we take full advantage of exercise to maintain physical and mental well-being.
