Writing Section

In the writing section, you will answer 12 questions to demonstrate how well you can write in English. There are three types of tasks.

Build a Sentence

Move the words in the boxes to create grammatical sentences.

A clock will show you how much time you have to complete this task.

Write an Email

You will read some information and use the information to write an email.

You will have 7 minutes to write the email.

You are a member of the neighborhood association, and you have noticed that the local park needs some maintenance. You decide to contact the association president, Mr. Williams, to discuss the issues and offer a suggestion.

Write an email to Mr. Williams. In your email, do the following:

• Describe the maintenance issue you have observed in the park.

• Explain why it is important to address the issue.

• Make a suggestion for how to deal with the issue.

Write as much as you can and in complete sentences.

Write for an Academic Discussion

Your professor is teaching a class on sociology. Write a post responding to the professor's question.

In your response, you should do the following.

• Express and support your opinion.

Next week we'll be discussing the impact of urbanization on community life. Urbanization has led to the development of large cities with diverse populations. Some people believe that urbanization fosters a sense of community and cultural exchange, while others think it leads to social isolation and the breakdown of close-knit communities usually found in small towns and villages. What are your thoughts on this and why?

I believe urbanization fosters a sense of community and cultural exchange. Large cities bring together people from different backgrounds, creating opportunities for cultural interaction and mutual understanding. Urban areas often have vibrant social scenes that encourage community building.

Andrew

In my opinion, urbanization leads to social isolation and the breakdown of close-knit communities. The fast-paced city life can make it difficult for people to form meaningful connections. Traditional community bonds, often found in smaller towns, tend to weaken in urban settings.
