It was years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was driving my daughter to the nearest airport. It was a 3-hour round trip, so after 1 her off at the airport, my sons and I stopped at a McDonald’s to have lunch. We found a free booth and I went up to 2 our food. Working at the cash register was an old lady. Each person who came up to give their order was 3 a huge smile of hers. When it was my 4 to order, I smiled back and told her that she had the sweetest smile I’d ever seen. She 5 , patted me on the hand and said, “No 6 charge, Sweetie!”
When we drove back to 7 my daughter a few days later, we stopped at the McDonald’s again. I 8 for the lady but she was nowhere to be seen. Maybe she wasn’t working that day, or maybe she had moved on to 9 others with her smile somewhere else. Remembering our 10 encounter always brings a smile to my face.
It is 11 how we work so hard to make money to buy things, but the things we 12 the most can’t be bought. They are 13 given and joyfully received. Love, smiles, and joy are all free of charge. They are the 14 we give each other. May we always 15 and find happiness in them.
