In Tel Aviv, that’s exactly what happened. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, customers treated the shop like a “self- checkout” store taking charge and operating the register themselves. The incident occurred on a Friday night, the store’s peak shopping hours. The cashier who was tasked withoperating the register fell ill suddenly and was rushed to hospital. The owner, Shiko Altid, didn’t find out that the store was unstaffed for an entire hour, until one customer called the shop’s security, who updated the owner Altid. On hearing about the incident, Altid immediately checked the security cameras, expecting to see a mess with tens of thousands of products scattered (散乱的) throughout the store. But what he saw surprised him—just minutes after the cashier left, the customers began to deal with the products themselves. “Two or three customer took charge, helping each other with items,” Altid recalled. “Every time the cash drawer opened, they quickly shut it to avoid any misunderstandings or theft. They even gave each other the correct change from the register. It was amazing. We later checked both the registers and the cameras, and nothing was missing! No one left without paying. I was in shock—this was Friday night in the center of Tel Aviv, with the store completely open. It could have been a disaster.” Later, Altid put up a sign in his store, reading. “We’d appreciate it if those who were at the register could contact us so we can express our thanks properly and reward your efforts.” However, only one customer—the one who had been in touch with security—reached out to Altid and received a thank-you voucher (代金券). The rest simply paid and left, not expecting or seeking any thanks for their actions. 24. What happened to the shop on a Friday night? A. It was unattended for some time. B. The products were scattered everywhere. C. One cashier asked for sick leave. D. It attracted a large number of customers. 25. What was the owner’s first reaction to the update? A. He was quite angry with the shop’s security. B. He got into a panic about the shop’s condition. C. He was worried about the cashier’s health. D. He thought it not worth paying attention to. 26. What did the customers do in the face of the incident? A. They waited for the owner to come and manage the store. B. They took some products and left without paying. C. They fought over who would operate the register. D. They helped each other and acted honorably. 27. How did the owner show his gratitude to the customers? A. He presented them with a voucher each. B. He called on them in person.C. He placed a sign recognizing their actions. D. He offered a discount to them. 【答案】24. A 25. B 26. D 27. But too much of a good thing can potentially be harmful. So how does one practice proper positivity in order to have a healthy mindset? According to the journal New Scientist, being positive to an extreme extent can be bad for you. Constantly forcing positivity, especially during challenging and difficult times, can result in the suppression (抑制) of youremotions. Not being afraid of your emotions is healing, which can bring you peace. Forcing certain feelings, even positive ones, takes away the chances of experiencing and being honest about what your feelings really are. Negative (消极的) thoughts and emotions are real. They are part of the human experience and we should acknowledge and explore them rather than neglect them. It’s OK to not be OK. Not being OK is part of life sometimes, and facing it with courage can open the door to recovery. Of course, allowing yourself to be overcome by negativity and not being positive at all is not the way to go either. Balance is the key here. Although that is easier said than done, it all originates from honesty. You can get there. So, it is OK to feel both your negative feelings and the positive ones. They are there for a reason, either to warn you of something, guide you towards something, or inform you of something. You don’t have to run away from them or hide from them. All you need to do is be honest. Be yourself and be authentic. Allow yourself to feel the feeling, the good, the bad and the ugly. Positivity can be a great thing. But remember to use it in moderation and not as a way to suppress how you are actually feeling. 28. Why is New Scientist mentioned? A. To present a common belief. B. To introduce a new theory. C. To support an argument. D. To explain a concept. 29. What does the underlined word “neglect” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Justify. B. Delay. C. Analyze. D. Ignore 30. What’s the author’s attitude towards suppressing one’s negative emotions? A. Mixed. B. Opposed. C. Supportive. D. Unclear. 31. What message does the author intend to deliver? A. Mental health really counts. B. Negative emotions are of great harm. C. Positivity and negativity interact with each other. D. Maintaining a balance between positivity and negativity is necessary. 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. B 31. He is a six-year-old Goldendoodle with a strawberry-blond coat that is made for petting, and his manners are perfect. He is a trained therapy (治疗) dog that visits patients in the hospital where I work as a nurse. I have seen Augie come through the hospital, stopping for anyone who wants to pet him, and I have seen him go into patients’ rooms. But I had never witnessed Augie providing the therapy that he was trained to give until I saw him with Mr. M. Mr. M had been in ICU for many weeks and suffered from many medical complications. His wife rarely left his side. Family and former co-workers visited. Prior to his retirement, Mr. M had worked as a canine (犬的) police officer and developed strong connections with his four-legged partners. It was a natural transition when, upon retiring from the police force, he became a trainer for the next generation of fearless police dogs. Sadly, he fell ill when attending a training program for police dogs. Although he was awake, and his beautiful green eyes were open, there was little indication that he was aware of his surroundings. Mrs. M was untroubled by the lack of response and kept talking to him while she exercised his arms, hoping he would make some effort to move them himself. I watched Mrs. M work with her husband’s hands, opening and closing them. She told him gently that he needed to move his hands so he would not lose the use of them, but he did not seem to be able to do it. He moved his eyes to look at her when she spoke to him, but he didn’t move his head toward her voice. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then Augie was brought to make a visit. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing that her husband was responding, Mrs. M started crying aloud! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Then Augie was brought to make a visit. He walked over to the bed, gently pushing Mr. M’s hand. At first, Mr. M showed no reaction. But then, something mysterious happened—Mr. M’s fingers moved slightly! Mrs. M’s eyes widened in disbelief. She stopped her movements and stared at her husband’s hand, expecting it to move again. Augie, seemingly sensing the change, stayed closer and made a soft noise, as if encouraging Mr. M to respond. Slowly, Mr. M’s hand began to move more purposefully and even managed to reach out his fingers to touch Augie’s fur. Seeing that her husband was responding, Mrs. M started crying aloud! Her tears were a mixture of joy, relief, and disbelief. For weeks, she had watched helplessly as Mr. M lay in the ICU. But now, with Augie’s gentle presence, there was a ray of hope, a sign that her husband was still there, fighting to come back. In the following days, Augie’s visits became a regular occurrence. Each time he entered the room, Mr. M’s response grew stronger. In the end, Mr. M was well enough to be released from the hospital. Sometimes, the amazing things can happen when we open our hearts to the healing power of animals. 词汇激活 行为类 ①无反应:show no reaction/respond in no way/be unresponsive ②鼓励:encourage/give courage to/inspire ③康复出院:be well enough to be released from the hospital/recover and leave the hospital/discharge from hospital after recovery 情绪类 ①惊讶:in disbelief/astonished/amazed ②希望:a ray of hope/hopeful sign/glimmer of hope 【点睛】[高分句型1].
