Lately, I’ve started keeping a study diary to get myself organized. Because it’s helpful. What are your

In my opinion, keeping organized helps us review our lessons in a short time. Don’t leave all the problems
until the night before the exams!
Kate
Thanks a lot! I agree. @Ann

I always spend about five minutes before bedtime tidying up my things. I throw away things I don’t need
and put what I need in the proper place.

My advice is to have a notice board in your bedroom. Use board pens to write down something important

It was a normal morning and my parents went to work as usual, I was left at home with my little brothers Boo
and Seven. Suddenly, Boo shouted that Seven was choking (窒息).
I remembered a first-aid video I’d seen, showing what to do if a little one is choking. I decided to have a try
accordingly. I leaned (使斜靠) Seven over my arm and started hitting him on the back, between his shoulder blades
(肩胛). My heart was in my mouth, but I was trying to keep clam because Boo was watching. I phoned 120. I

According to the World Health Organization, around one in 20 adults experiences depression (抑郁), and the
condition has become more and more normal worldwide. There are many things that can influence depression,
including biology and lifestyle. To better understand the relationship between these things and depression, a research
team made a survey.
The team followed nearly 290,000 people for up to nine years, about 4% of whom had depression. The
researchers found that seven healthy lifestyles can reduce the risk of depression, such as a healthy diet, regular
physical exercise, healthy sleep, never smoking, and frequent social connection.

On difficult days it’s easy to forget what cheers you up and makes you feel happy. But, by creating a piece of
word art, you will have a reminder you can turn to for ideas whenever you need it.
What is a happiness manifesto? A happiness manifesto is a declaration (宣言) of what makes you happy. By
making your happiness manifesto into a piece of word art, you can get creative and place it in your home to see
every day.
To make your happiness manifesto, you need to get a piece of paper and a pen and write a list of everything you
enjoy and makes you happy. From playing with friends to reading to football, there’s no limit to how many things

you can write. Next, read the words and phrases you’ve written and circle those that are really important to your
happiness, and what you most love to do. Cross out any you don’t feel excited about.
Decide whether you’re going to make your word poster with pens, or create it on a computer. If you’re using a
computer app, choose a typeface (字体) you like and arrange your words and phrases on an A4 page. Make the
words the same or different colours and then print it out. If you’re making your poster by hand, write or paint your
words on a piece of paper or card, making it as colourful as you want.Place your eye-catching happiness manifesto
poster in a place you can see it every day as a reminder.
Francesca, creator of a journal on happiness, believes there are lots of reasons we should celebrate what makes
us happy.“It makes us kinder and more helpful to others, more creative and better at dealing with challenges,”she

“Lying down” (also known as tang ping), has become a hot word among young Chinese people these days. The
idea of low material needs and being willing to accept whatever life gives them is described as a “lying down”
lifestyle.
Some young people complain that to raise a child needs too much money and they often get into a fight with
their family. At the same time, the rising living costs including food and housing have pushed them so hard that they
could hardly breathe. Some want to lie down because their tiring jobs, competition with peers, as well as personal
relationships force them to run away.

On the other hand, with the great improvement of living conditions, it is true that some Chinese youth today
have lost the spirit of fighting hard for a better life. “I stay at home, sleep and watch TV series, and I’m pleased with
what I have now. Actually, there are many people around me who value happiness and freedom most,” said Daisy,
who left her job two weeks ago. No wonder that some young people would choose to live a simple way instead of
always following the good quality of fighting hard.
Interestingly, most young people, who are “big fans” of the “lying down” lifestyle, point out that they only
accept a temporary (暂时的) lying down as a short rest. In fact, lying down is not totally comfortable for them. Most
young people who lie down always regard it as a lack of ambition (抱负、夙愿) and feel ashamed (羞耻的) about it.
“Young people have both ambition and confusion (困惑) about their future, but most of us have refused to
waste chances and challenges,” a college student said.
1. Do most young people really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle according to the passage?
2. What is a “lying-down” lifestyle?
3. What do most young people regard the “lying down” lifestyle as?
4. Do you think the “lying down” lifestyle is the best way to deal with difficulties in your life? Why or why not?

I was good at many subjects and could organize all kinds of activities, but I was poor in history.
Therefore, I went to the library and 1 (try) to remember all the history facts and dates in the afternoon. But

On her desk were some cards and color pencils. Each card showed a colourful picture. I asked what she was
doing. She said that she 2 (review) history. And Maria told me that she thought she needed to be creative
because it was hard to remember so many things. She liked art, and the pictures helped 3 (she) recall the facts.
After thinking for a while, 4 idea came to my mind. I had rich experience in successfully organizing big

Have you heard of the saying “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”? It means that no matter 1 difficult
things you have gotten and no matter how many mistakes you have made, you still have the passion and energy to
keep going. This is called perseverance (毅力) and it can help you achieve some life 2 (goal).
Perseverance means keeping 3 (do) something over a long time, even when the going gets more and more
difficult. 4 is believed that you can achieve a goal if you prepare to work for it. Practicing a trick on your bike
over and over again or finishing a picture without throwing it away shows perseverance. Florence, 12, says, “It
means never giving up, being determined and trying your best 5 (keep) pushing yourself. I go running with my
mom three times a week, even when I don’t feel like it, because I want to be the 6 (fast) in my class. ”
Studies show that feeling hopeful and working towards a goal can reduce stress and make you feel happier.
Achieving what you’ve worked for can develop your confidence. It can 7 make you feel braver to try new
things. Angela Duckworth, 8 expert in thoughts and feelings, believes that it doesn’t matter how talented, clever
or rich you are, having perseverance is what really helps you succeed. She explains, “No matter how talented you
are, and no matter how easily your lessons 9 (finish) well, you should have perseverance.”
Duckworth believes perseverance is something anyone can lean. The best way to do this is to have a growth
mind. This means you should 10 (believe) that your brain can grow, and that you can achieve anything if you
put your mind to it. So instead of thinking “I can’t do this”, try thinking “I can’t do this…yet”.
